  * **E.** Fill the glass carafe with ice cubes to the ICE level marking.

Note: If you want to use cold water instead of ice, fill the glass carafe with water to the WATER level marking, not the ICE level marking, or the glass carafe will overflow once the hot tea is brewed into the glass carafe.

  • F. Place the glass carafe on the drip tray. Tea can be brewed with the cover lid in place.

  • G. Plug the power cord into the outlet.

  • H. Adjust the brew strength control to your desired strength, mild to the left and strong to the right. (See image)

  • I. Press the POWER button. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating that the power is ON.

  • J. Once the brew cycle starts, the appliance will brew all the water from the water tank before automatically turning OFF.
Note: DO NOT attempt to press the power button to interrupt or stop the brew cycle. Repeatedly pressing the power button to interrupt the brew cycle could cause damage to the appliance.

  • K. Wait until the brewing cycle is complete. Once brewing is finished, remove the glass carafe and serve.

  • L. Turn the iced tea and iced coffee maker off and disconnect the power supply when not in use. Note: Unpluging the iced tea and iced coffee maker will not immediately stop the brewing. Allow several minutes for the water to flow into the glass carafe before removing from the drip tray.

  • M. After the appliance has cooled, open the iced tea and iced coffee maker cover and remove the funnel and filter baskets. Discard the used leaves or bags and rinse thoroughly in warm water.

TIPS FOR GREAT-TASTING ICED TEA

  • The Coffee & Tea Measurement Guide only provides suggested measurements. You may modify the measurement suggestions to fit your personal taste and strength preference.
  • Keep in mind that certain types of tea, especially green and herbal teas, may require additional amounts to achieve your desired strength and flavor.
  • If the brew cycle doesn’t start immediately after pressing the power button, or if attempting to brew multiple batches, unplug the appliance from an outlet and allow to cool down the appliance for 15 minutes before attempting to start again.
  • The sour taste of the tea may be caused by using the incorrect amount of tea or tea bags. If you find that your tea is too sour, move the adjustable control knob to a lower setting. You can also adjust the strength of the tea by using more or fewer tea bags or tea leaves to suit your preference.
  • Iced tea brewed from tea bags or loose tea can become cloudy or look milky. Tea is a blend that is rich in solids, called tannins, to provide a full-bodied flavor. The hardness of the water used to brew and quick chilling of the hot tea over ice can cause clouding. If the tea is cooled too rapidly, the tannins in the tea will settle out and cause the tea to become cloudy.
  • After your tea has been brewed, let it sit on the counter and cool to room temperature before placing in the refrigerator. Or, to prevent your tea from cooling too rapidly, substitute cold tap water in place of ice cubes.
  • To make sweetened iced tea, add up to 1/2 cup (125 ml) of sugar to the brew basket, on top of the tea. Use a basket-style coffee filter in the brew basket, rather than using the filter basket for tea. Loose tea works better with sugar than bagged tea. There will be some sugar remaining in the basket after the brew cycle. This is normal.
  • For optimum iced coffee taste, buy whole coffee beans and finely grind them just before brewing. Pre-ground coffee grounds should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Be sure to unplug this appliance before cleaning. To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plug or unit in water or any other liquid.

  1. Unplug from the electrical outlet. Allow the entire appliance to cool before cleaning.

  2. Remove the filter basket and funnel basket.

  3. Rinse the filter in warm water only.
Note: Washing the filter with soap is optional as any residue may affect the taste of your tea or coffee.

  4. Wipe the exterior surface of unit with a soft, damp cloth to remove stains.

  5. Water droplets may build up in the above area of the funnel and drip onto the product base during brewing. To control the dripping, wipe off the area with a clean, dry cloth after each use.

  6. Use a damp cloth to gently wipe the warming plate. Never use an abrasive cleaner.

  7.  Assemble all parts and put aside for next use.
Note: On a regular basis, remove hard water mineral deposits in the glass jar and filter basket. (See the following section: CLEANING WITH VINEGAR)

Cleaning with vinegar

  • Pour white vinegar into the water reservoir up to the 1-cup line on the water window.
Add cold water at the MAX cup line on the water gauge.

  • Put a filter basket in the funnel and close the iced tea and iced coffee maker cover. Set the empty carafe on the drip tray plate.

  • Turn ON the iced tea and iced coffee maker and let half the cleaning solution brew into the carafe. Turn OFF the iced tea and iced coffee maker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.

  • Turn ON the iced tea and iced coffee maker and brew the remaining cleaning solution into the carafe.

  • Turn OFF the iced tea and iced coffee maker; empty the carafe and the soiled filter basket and tea funnel.

  • Fill the reservoir with cold water to the MAX cup line, replace the empty carafe, then turn ON the iced tea and iced coffee maker for a complete brew cycle to flush out the remaining cleaning solution. You may have to repeat this to eliminate the vinegar smell/taste.

  • Wash the filter basket, the tea funnel and the carafe as instructed in CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE.
