Introduction
Installation requirements: Internet connectivity
SunPower Drive is a Smart Charger and therefore requires a strong and stable internet connection to perform its smart functionalities.
SunPower Drive offers site specific flexible connectivity as it can connect to the internet in three different ways:
- Via Local Area Network (LAN) through an Ethernet Cable to the Home LAN (Router)
- Via broadband cellular network technology (4G) by using a SIM card with a data contract through a local cellular service provider (SIM card and data contract not provided)
- Via Wi-Fi access to the customers local Wireless LAN (Wi-Fi Router)
Discuss with your installer the best option available prior to installation. In general, a wired connection is always the best and most stable connection.
Getting Started
Account activation & ev.energy app download
Please make sure that you have received the SunPower One activation email following the installer commissioning of your SunPower Drive and follow the activation steps to activate your account.
In the end, you will be guided to download and install the ev. energy app, our mobility services partner, which enables you to use the smart charging services. Once downloaded, click the SunPower button to log into ev.energy with your SunPower account credentials (that you previously have created). We will require your consent of usage of profile data and right after you will be directed to go through the ev. energy onboarding process.
The warranty registration of the SunPower Drive is completed when the homeowner has activated their customer account.
App setup
Inside the ev. energy app you have the possibility to customize your experience through various settings.
Connect your Vehicle
It is recommended to configure your vehicle (if compatible), so you will also
be able to view your vehicle battery state, see your battery level and track
charging away from home.
Add your Electricity Tariff
Add your electricity tariff so we can optimize your charging based on off-peak
or variable-rate periods (if applicable) and report the cost of your charging.
Switch on Smart Charging
It is recommended to switch on smart charging to get the best out of the
SunPower Drive mobility experience.
Set up your smart schedule by setting a “ready by” time to ensure your vehicle is ready for when you need it. This is set to 7 am by default every day, but you can override this on a one-off basis or set a Weekly Schedule.
Solar Charging Modes
If you have solar panels, you can power your vehicle with your solar energy
and reduce your cost and carbon emissions.
Our software set-up is the free and easy way to get started with solar-powered electric vehicle charging without the need to purchase any more hardware. Provide some information about your solar panels and we’ll use solar forecasting to accurately estimate and match the solar output with your charging.
There are two solar modes available depending on your preference:
Solar Only
Ramp the electric current of your charge up or down to meet your self-
generated solar output for a virtually zero-cost, zero-carbon charge without
using energy from the grid.
Your solar array must produce at least 1.4kW to use this mode. If there is insufficient solar power, your vehicle may not be fully charged by your ready- by time when using Solar Only.
Solar + Grid
Charge for less during peak times on the grid. When there are no off-peak
hours available before your ready-by time, we’ll schedule your vehicle
charging to use your excess solar generation (if available).
If excess solar generation isn’t available, your vehicle will charge with grid energy at your agreed tariff. We will not adjust the charging rate up/down in this mode.
Boost Charging
You can override the smart charging settings to charge your vehicle anytime by
tapping the Boost button on your charging dashboard in the app.
Charging Statistics
You are able to track your charging sessions over a 24 hour, 1 month or 12 month period, including energy usage, total cost, financial savings (based on your tariff rates) made with smart charging and carbon impact.
Additionally, you can export your charging data from the ev. energy app to use in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets or Apple Numbers.
Charging Instructions
Plug the charging connector into the vehicle charging socket and confirm that it is connected properly. If the blue LED light is always on, the charging station is in connection status.
After a charging session is initiated properly, the blue LED light shall be in a pulsing / breathing state, indicating that the charging process has started.
If smart charging is enabled, your vehicle might not start charging immediately even if the LED is in pulsing / breathing state. We take your electricity tariff, solar PV production and other factors into account to provide you the most optimized charging experience. There is nothing left for you to do, your vehicle will be ready according to the “ready by” time you have set up.
To end charging, press the Unlock button and unplug the charging connector. Safely stow away the charging cable by wrapping it neatly in the cable winding through, and make sure the connector is properly stowed.
LED status Indicators
SunPower Drive is equipped with a color LED to visualize the working status of the charging station.
Lighting effects | Meanings | Subsequent operation |
---|---|---|
Green indicator is always on. | The charging station is in standby state | |
without failure. | Correctly connect the charging connector to the vehicle. | |
Blue indicator is always on. | The charging connector is connected. | Start |
charging through the ev. energy app
Blue indicator is flashing quickly| RFID card authentication (when activated
in the ev. energy app settings)| Wait for authentication to complete
| Blue indicator is pulsing / breathing.| Charging is in progress| The vehicle
is in a charging state (when smart charging is enabled in the ev. energy app
settings, charging is managed automatically and vehicle will be charged
according to charging schedule)
Blue indicator is flashing slowly| Suspended charging| Check the vehicle
screen for failure: If any failure is found, disconnect the charger & check if
the charging capacity has been limited by the grid or ev.energy; if the
failure is still displayed, please consult the vehicle dealer; If not, the
grid side has limited the charging capacity.
| Continuous red indicator| Failure or E-Stop is activated.| Remove the faults
according to the troubleshooting measures in the “Troubleshooting” section; if
the problem cannot be solved, please contact your dealer or service provider.
Points and Rewards
Rewards Scheme
Charging is even more rewarding with SunPower Drive and ev.energy, as you can earn points for your smart charging sessions to spend with our reward partners.
How does it work?
By smart charging with ev.energy, you agree to shift the energy demand for charging your vehicle to an off-peak time. This reduces costs for electricity networks who pay us to support this. We then return that to you as points for spending as cash rewards. It’s as simple as that.
Collect Points
We’ve made it easy to collect points for eligible smart charging sessions. For every smart charge above 7 kWh, you will earn 1 point. This will be collected automatically and you will be able to see this in your Session Summary. In order to earn points and claim rewards with ev.energy, you will need to provide consent in the Rewards section of the app.
Redeem Rewards
To view and spend your points on rewards, go to the Rewards section of the app. When you have enough points, just tap on the reward of your choice to get started.
Partner Offers
In the Rewards section of the app, you will also be able to see offers from our partners. Points are not required for these offers. https://www.ev.energy /faq-categories/rewards
