FAQ
Is red light therapy safe? Are there side effects?
OPOVE Red Light Belt uses only the red and near-infrared wavelengths that are clinical- ly proven to be effective and safe. However, we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider for specific questions about any concerns or health condi- tions.
Will light therapy treatments cause detox symptoms?
It is possible that an OPOVE Red Light treatment can cause some detox-related symp- toms while your body acclimates. If you experience these types of issues, we recom- mended stopping treatments until the symptoms go away. Then start out at 2-3 minutes per treatment area and work your way slowly up to 10 minutes over the course of 2-3 weeks. This will help your body adapt. If you continue to experience detox-related symptoms and have any concerns regarding the use of red light therapy, we recommend stopping treatments and consulting with your health care provider. We have a full 30 day no hassle trial and a full refund policy.
What if my skin is burned or damaged?
Red light therapy has been clinically-proven to help damaged skin heal from cuts, burns, and other blemishes. We recommend consulting with your healthcareprovider if you have any concerns.
What if | have a pre-existing health condition or take medications?
OPOVE Red Lights are classified as general wellness devices. Out of an abundance of caution,we recommend you consult with your healthcare provider if you have any pre-ex- isting conditions or if you take photosensitizing drugs. Steroids work to suppress the immune system while red light therapy may work to stimulate it. To the extent that the two therapies may work against each other, we do not recommend they be used togeth- er.As we are not licensed healthcare practitioners, we are not able to offer definitive clinical guidance. We recommend consulting with your trusted health care provider with specific questions.
Can children use OPOVE Red Light?
Clinical studies have shown red and NIR light therapy to be quite safe. However, if you are considering using it with children, we recommend consulting with a healthcare professional. All treatments with children should be done under adult supervision.
Can pregnant or nursing women use the lights?
As there has been no clinical research on red light therapy treatments on pregnant or nursing subjects, do not use the device if pregnant or lactating before consulting with your healthcare provider.
Are the Near-infrared (NIR) LEDs not working?
NIR is just beyond the visible spectrum and is invisible to the naked eye. You will only actually be able to see a pink dot, or a subtle pink glow emanating from the LEDs when they are on. Please rest assured that there is a significant amount of light energy emanat- ing from those LEDs and your OPOVE Red Light is in fact working exactly as designed.

If you need a convenient and effective light therapy (phototherapy) treatment, it needs:
- Reasonable wavelength;
- Ideal power density;
- The ability that can be applied to more areas of the body at once;
- Appropriate usage time.
What wavelength do we need?
The near-infrared (NIR) window usually defines the range of wavelengths from
600 to 1100 nanometer (nm) where light has its maximum depth of penetration in
tissue. That’ s the reason why we use red light and NIR for hotobiomodulation
(PBM). Generally, the red light has the shallower penetrating power, and the
NIR can reach deeper tissues. This makes the red light more suitable for skin
care, and the NIR is more for deep tissues like muscles and brain, etc.
The Red light and NIR are complementary and synergistic. Different
penetrations and absorption can enhance the using effect.
What power do we need?
Like most descriptions of red light therapy, power is very important.
Unfortunately, some companies mislead customers with measurement errors and
exaggerations. Excessive power will cause tissue heating or burns. It is
probably insecure and unrealistic to use such big power to reach deeper
tissue.
Most researches indicate the optimal use for red light and NIR therapy is
20-200mW/cm? (energy density) from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. We suggest
customers use it in the range and the target dose that are mentioned above.Of
course, the higher power doesn’ t lead to a better effect. Long-term use of
low-intensity red light therapy can be the ideal way sometimes. Thus, we have
four different levels to control the power (LO-L4).
In order to avoid tissue heating or skin injury, we apply 10Hz Pulse Flicker.
Pulsing is typically a rapid “on” and “off” of a device. The continuous use
can reach the peak intensi- ty, to attain a bigger penetrating power. The
“off” times can help the tissue prevent overheating.
Chronic or too repetitive doses will cross to inhibitory effects in accordance
with the biphasic dose response. Generally, we hope it can be kept in a
beneficial range in the so-called stimulus response.
While there still is a lot we need to learn about proper dosing protocols, it
is clear that daily usage of low intensity red light therapy can be the ideal
way to do treatments. If you are short on time or do higher intensity, then
perhaps only 2-3 times a week is sufficient.
Typically for only severe or acute issues would do treatments more than once a
day.
As the studies we know about, it is a story of moderation with dosing red
light therapy.
This time we need to consider how red light therapy affects us across multiple
doses with long-term usage. We don’ t always give you an exact prescription,
but these are important mechanisms to be aware of so you can customize your
dose to make red light therapy work for you.

Light Therapy Overview
What is Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy?
Red and near-infrared light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBM)
involves the use of specific wavelengths of natural light in the mid 600 and
mid 800 nanometer range to enhance the health and function of our cells. Red
and infrared light therapy is without any harmful UV rays or excess heat so it
is very safe.
How does it work?
The most well studied mechanism of action surrounding red and near-infrared
light therapy is increased mitochondrial energy production in the cells.
Mitochondria are tiny organelles that are the energy power plants of all the
cells in our body. Red and near-in- frared light therapy helps the
mitochondria create more of that energy.
The specific photons found in red and near-infrared light interact with the
photorecep- tors within our cells called cytochrome c oxidase. This
interaction stimulates the mito- chondria in our cells to use oxygen more
efficiently, which allows the mitochondria to produce more ATP (adenosine
triphosphate). Adenosine triphosphate is a complex organic chemical that
provides energy to drive many processes in living cells, e.g. muscle
contraction, nerve impulse propagation, and chemical synthesis. Found in all
forms of life, ATP is often referred to as the “molecular unit of currency” of
intracellular energy transfer. When our cells have more energy, they simply
perform better and the body
follows suit.
What are the benefits?
There are over 3,000 scientific studies and peer reviewed clinical trials that
have been conducted on the benefits and effectiveness of red and near-infrared
light therapy. The studies have shown that light therapy can have significant
health benefits, including but not limited to: increased energy, enhanced fat
loss, enhanced muscle recovery, decreased inflammation and joint pain,
improved health and appearance of our skin, increased collagen production,
improved mood and cognitive function, faster wound healing, improved hormonal
health, improved quality of our sleep and much more. The benefits are so wide
ranging due to the mechanism of action: increased cellular energy produc-
tion.
Safety Instructions
