Introduction

Assessment Instructions
What is the purpose of the assessments?| Each assessment will help to
establish your progress towards achievement of competence in this unit.
When will the assessment take place?| Once you have completed your training
and you feel confident to attempt the assessment you will notify your Assessor
that you are now ready.
What are the steps in the assessment?
| Your Assessor will:
1. Prepare you for the assessment by providing as much information as you need.
2. Ensure that you have the necessary resources and a safe environment.
3. You will then complete the assessment Tasks as per each individual task’ instructions.
4. You will collect all evidence you produce for the assessment Task and store this in a logical and easily accessible format.
5. You send all evidence to your Assessor for marking.
6. Your Assessor will mark all your work and provide feedback to you along with the grade for that task.
7. Should you need to be re-assessed your Assessor will arrange a time with you to complete this.
8. The Assessor will make the final assessment decision
9. The Assessor will then record and report the results to your RTO Admin
When will questions be asked during the assessment (if at all)|
Questions might be asked by the Assessor to clarify or confirm your understanding of the topics at any time during the assessment task.
How long will it take?
| The length of each assessment is listed against each assessment task as a guide. You may complete the assessment in a shorter or longer time frame. If you need additional time discuss with your Assessor.
What support can be provided to me during the assessment?
| Discuss with the assessor any special requirements you might have. They can provide additional time or different strategies can be used if you have difficulty writing or seeing questions on the paper.
Whatever your needs are the Assessor will try to accommodate all of these for you. This is called “Reasonable Adjustment”.

additional resources discuss this with your Assessor.
Grading| Each assessment task is graded as ‘Satisfactory” or
“Unsatisfactory”. When you have completed ALL assessment tasks you are then graded as “Competent” or “Not Yet Competent”.

- Workplace requirements applicable to health and safety in the workplace for potting up plants, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- The principles and practices of potting up plants, including:
- Plant grading and pot selection
- Plant hygiene, stock movement and placement requirements
- Methods of disposing of waste

this assessment is submitted to gain a satisfactory in this task.

Preparing Plant for Repotting
Instructions for this task:
You have been given a job instruction to pot up a number of plants (at least
three), as provided by your supervisors. In this task, you are required to
demonstrate your understanding of the work instructions and your ability to
prepare the plants and work area prior to potting them up.
For the purpose of this assessment, the supervisor is your assessor.
Ask your Assessor to clarify items you are unsure about prior to commencing. Complete all tasks as stated and submit all work for assessment by the due date.
You will be required to have a good understanding of the following areas:
- Confirming plant potting up activities with supervisor
- Recognising potential hazards and risks and implement safe working practices and selection of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Selection of appropriate tools, equipment and materials
- Clean and disinfect work area according to hygiene requirements
- Prepare and grade plants for potting
Benchmark
Using the Assessment Matrix below you are to achieve at least a rating of 100%
to be deemed satisfactory in this task. You must complete all activities in
full and answer all questions in full.
All criteria listed in the Assessor’s Checklist must be met to the industry
standards specified in this unit.

Instructions for this task:
Your job instruction requires you to pot up the plants that you have
previously prepared. You are required to demonstrate potting up operations and
your understanding of the steps following the potting of the plants, such as
the fertilisation of the plant.
Submit all work to your Assessor for marking by the due date and include the
Assessment Cover Sheet.
Ask your Assessor to clarify items you are unsure about prior to commencing.
Complete all tasks as stated.
You will be required to have a good understanding of the following areas:
- Selection of pots and potting mixes
- Potting up operations
- Checking placement and depth of plants to comply with planting method and instructions
- Adding fertilisers according to supervisor’s instructions
- Apply hygiene requirements associated with potting up plants
- Water plants in to eliminate air pockets and prevent dehydration
Benchmark
Using the Assessment Matrix below you are to achieve at least a rating of 100%
to be deemed satisfactory in this task. You must complete all activities in

Completing Potting Up Operations
Instructions for this task:
You are required to complete your potting up operations by producing a water
schedule for your plants, transporting and placing plants in a controlled
environment. You are required to demonstrate your understanding on disposal of
waste material, postoperation cleaning and recording and reporting
requirements.
Ask your Assessor to clarify items you are unsure about prior to commencing. Complete all tasks as stated and submit all work for assessment by the due date.
You will be required to have a good understanding of the following areas:
- Water plants to eliminate air pockets and prevent dehydration
- Transport and place plants in growing area according to supervisor instructions
- Remove and dispose of waste material according to workplace procedures, and perform cleaning procedures
- Clean, disinfect, maintain and store tools and equipment, and work area according to hygiene requirements
- Identify and report unserviceable tools and equipment according to workplace procedures
- Record and report potting up operations according to workplace procedures
