Instruction For Use
Step 1: Remove the factory windshield. You will not need the screws that held it on; screw them back into the factory posts for safekeeping.
Step 2: Remove the factory windshield bracket. There are two hex bolts at the back, one on each side, and two M5 Allen-head bolts at the front (see photos below). Remove all four and hold onto them for attaching the MadStad system.
Step 3: Remove the factory side deflectors. Each deflector has an Allen- head screw at the back and one on the side of the headlight housing.
Step 4: Install the MadStad base plate brackets. These are the slim multi-bend brackets that attach at the front and rear in the same holes that the plastic factory bracket attached (using the same factory screws). See photos below for orientation and screws location. You may have to nudge or flex them a bit to line up the holes but that is normal. NOTE: Do not fully tighten these brackets yet. Install the screws snug but you want to allow a little bit of rotation so you can line them up with the base plate.
Step 5: Line up the aluminum base plate to make sure the four holes in the plate match up to the holes on the two base brackets as shown below. Rotate the base brackets slightly to change their position so their holes line up evenly against the back of the plate, and once they do finish tightening the four base bracket screws. NOTE: The reason you can’t just go ahead and attach the plate is because the two front screws will not be accessible once the plate is on.
Step 6: Attach the plate and adjustable brackets together onto the bases. This means the M6 x 12 button screws go through the brackets, then the plate, then into the base brackets with a washer and lock nut tightened down on the back side of the bases (use M4 Allen and M10 crescent wrench). See photos below.
The final assembly of brackets, plate and bases will look like the photo at right. The windshield will attach to the four rubber well nuts in the MadStad brackets but you can first install the side deflectors. If not using side deflectors then skip the next step.
Step 7: Attach the side deflectors. Each side bracket attaches to the same two points that the factory deflectors attached to, and you can use the M6 x 12 button socket screws and washers provided in this kit. The deflectors attach to the side brackets with M5 Phillips screws and plastic flat washers slid onto the screws. Run those through the deflectors and into the rubber well nuts on the side brackets. Make snug but do not overtighten. You can attach the plastic deflectors before or after attaching the side deflector brackets. See photos below.
Windshield Installation
-
Pre-install the Truss screws & washers into the windshield holes as shown in the image below.
-
Once all four of the screws are in place, gently guide the screws into the Well Nuts in the brackets until all four are set.
-
Hand tighten the Truss screws until they swell up behind the bracket and are firmly holding the windshield.

Adjusting the Brackets
The knob screws release the brackets allowing the windshield to slide and tilt. These knob screws must always be tightened securely before riding.
The basic starting position of the windshield should be to angle it about the same angle as your forks (maybe back slightly more), and set the top edge of the shield to be at about your chin level as you look straight ahead. Tighten the knobs and go for a ride to see if the air flows smoothly over your helmet. Do this on a calm day if at all possible; windy days make it hard to judge the airflow. Don’t ever try to adjust the mount while in motion!
To try a different windshield position, bring the motorcycle to a complete stop and out of traffic. Loosen the two knob screws and tilt the windshield forward or back 2-3 degrees or so, and/or adjust it up or down if necessary. Re-tighten the knobs and go for another ride.
Windshield Angle
Most windshields work best when set near a 60 degree angle. We have provided an angle guide on the back page of this manual so that you can check and see if your shield is set somewhere in this range.
To check your shield angle, the bike should be in an upright position either on a center stand or held up by a helper. Set the spine (folded edge) of the manual against the front of the shield. If the large arrow marked 60° is pointing straight up, then your shield is at a 60 degree angle. (See diagram on Page 5.) A little farther back and your angle would somewhere between 55 and 60 degrees. Anywhere in this range is fine for your initial test ride. On some bikes a more vertical angle works better (by deflecting the airflow a little higher) so don’t be afraid to experiment later if tilting the shield back doesn’t seem to be ideal.
With the proper angle, the airflow should smoothly clear the top of your helmet while you are still be able to see over the top of the shield comfortably.

Neither MadStad Engineering nor its owners shall be liable for any damages, consequential or inconsequential, resulting from the use of our products. Installation of any of our products constitutes acceptance of these terms.
It is the responsibility of the user to make sure all fasteners are tightened securely, the windshield is mounted properly and the adjustment knobs are tightened snugly before putting the motorcycle in motion. MadStad systems ARE NOT intended to be adjusted while the vehicle is in motion; you must pull over out of the way of traffic and come to a complete stop before making any changes. The user must never place the windshield in such a position as to interfere with the safe and complete movement of the handlebars and controls.
