Product Usage Instructions:

• Step 1: Installing the Adjustable Brackets

  • Attach the adjustable brackets to the quick-release posts (spools) ensuring the locking keys are rotated to the front of the bike.
  • Adjust the brackets if needed to fully seat onto the posts and then tighten the post screws with a 4 mm Allen wrench.

• Step 2: Windshield Installation
  Keep the brackets attached to the spools. Lift up on the back side of the locking key to slide the brackets up and off for windshield attachment.

• Step 3: Adjusting the MadStad Brackets
  Loosen the knob screws to adjust the windshield position while ensuring a complete stop. Experiment with different positions until you find a combination that reduces buffeting and provides a smoother ride.

• 4 mm Allen wrench (hex key), ball-end if possible

• 2 Phillips screwdriver

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

Step 1:
The MadStad quick-release spools hardware attaches to the screw holes in the front of your instrument cluster as seen at right. The quick-release assemblies are pre-assembled as shown below, and you will fasten them through the wedges and into the bike using a 4mm Allen (hex) wrench. The final result image is at the bottom right. Applying a blue thread locker to the tips of these four screws is not required but is recommended. DO NOT tighten the screws fully until the brackets have been attached and seated (this will be in Step 2). Just get them in and lightly snug for the next step. Delete wedges if you have an aftermarket speaker adapter.

NOTE:
The color and materials of the spools and wedges may be different than those shown below. *M6 X 45 is the correct screw length.

Ryker Spool Assembly

Step 2:
The adjustable brackets attach to (slide onto) the quick-release posts (spools) as shown in the photo at right. Each bracket has a spring-loaded locking key. Make sure that the locking keys are rotated out of the way to the front of the bike as seen here.

Once the brackets are fully seated onto the posts, lift and rotate the locking key so that the round hole fits over the bottom post, and the short curved edge snaps down under the upper post. See photo below.

You might have to shift the bracket and posts slightly to get the locking keys to seat completely. MAKE SURE that the keys are fully seated over the bottom posts and down flat against the brackets before driving.

Step 3:
Fully tighten the post screws down with an M4 Allen wrench (see photo at right). Repeat on the other side, and then the bracket installation is complete. To remove the brackets from the spools, lift up on the back side of the locking key as seen here and rotate down and all the way forward. The brackets can now slide up and off, however, leave them attached for the final step of attaching the windshield.

Windshield Installation

1. Pre-install the Truss screws & washers into the windshield holes as shown in the image below.
2. Once all four of the screws are in place, gently guide the screws into the Well Nuts in the brackets until all four are set.
3. Hand-tighten the Truss screws until they swell up behind the bracket and are firmly holding the windshield.

Adjusting the MadStad Brackets

The knob screws release the brackets allowing the windshield to slide and tilt. These knob screws must always be tightened securely before riding. DO NOT attempt to adjust the brackets while riding! You must come to a complete stop before making adjustments. Also make sure that you do not set the windshield in such a way that causes your handlebars or hand guards (if installed) to hit the windshield when turning, or before reaching full lock.

To make adjustments, loosen the knobs 1 turn for height adjustment and 3-4 turns for angle adjustment. Set the windshield so the top edge is at about your chin level as you look straight ahead while seated on the bike. Set the angle at approximately 60 degrees. (Use the angle guide on the back page of this manual as a guide.) Tighten the knobs and go for a ride to see if you now have smooth airflow over and around your helmet. Do this on a calm day if at all possible; windy days make it hard to judge the airflow. Don’t ever try to adjust the mount while in motion!

NOTE:
The knobs have a tapered shoulder that must seat itself into the angle adjustment slots when you tighten them. You may have to wiggle the brackets slightly to get the knob to seat in there but once you do that is what locks the shield into position.

To try a different windshield position, bring the motorcycle to a complete stop and out of traffic. Loosen the two knob screws and tilt the windshield forward or back one or two notches, and/or adjust it up or down if necessary. Re-tighten the knobs and go for another ride. Continue experimenting with different positions you find a combination of height and angle that eliminates buffeting and gives a smoother ride.

NOTE:
To open your front storage compartment fully you do NOT need to remove the windshield system. Simply loosen the knobs adjustment knobs 3-4 turns then lift the windshield up and tilt it back. This will give you just enough clearance to open that compartment door.

Pivot Screws

The MadStad mount has a pivot screw on each set of brackets, located near the center of the bottom bracket. If you wish to adjust the tightness of this pivot screw or move it to an alternate pivot position, use a 4mm Allen wrench and a 10mm socket or wrench to adjust. If you tighten the lock nut completely you will not be able to slide the brackets.

Quick Release

Once the windshield is installed you can remove it along with both brackets as one unit, and re-install it that way. Simply lift and rotate both locking keys down and fully forward, then grab the shield by the bottom or sides and slide (wiggle) the brackets up and slightly forward off of their posts. Installing them back onto the posts will take a little extra care to align the bracket slots with the posts, and a little extra wiggling to make sure they are fully seated. Rotate the locking keys back onto position and if they aren’t quite aligned, either snap them down with a little extra pressure or wiggle the brackets down some more until the keys snap fully down. DO NOT drive the vehicle if both locking keys are not fully seated over the bottom posts.

Notes on Windshield Angle

Most windshields work best when set at a 55-60 degree angle. We have provided an angle guide on the back page of this manual so that you can check and see if your shield is set somewhere in this range.

To check your shield angle, your bike should be in an upright position either on a centre stand or held up by a helper. Set the spine (folded edge) of the manual against the front of the shield. If the large arrow marked 60° is pointing straight up, then your shield is at a 60-degree angle. (See diagram) A little farther back and your angle would be somewhere between 55 and 60 degrees. Anywhere in this range is fine for your initial test ride. On some bikes a more vertical angle works better, so don’t be afraid to experiment later if tilting the shield back doesn’t seem to be ideal.

The user must never place the windshield in such a position as to interfere with the safe and complete movement of the handlebars and controls.

MadStad adjustable brackets carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. This does not include cosmetic issues nor any parts that inherently wear out or degrade over time such as rubber and plastic parts. Windshields, deflectors, and other similar plastic parts are warrantied for 1 year against manufacturing defects, not against cosmetic issues or issues related to normal wear and tear.
