Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Q: How do I know if this windshield system fits my motorcycle model?
A: This system is compatible with Triumph Street Scrambler, Street Twin, T100, and T120 models. Ensure your bike matches one of these models before installation.

  • Q: Can I use the windshield system without the optional lower deflectors?
A: Yes, the windshield system can be used without the lower deflectors. The optional deflectors provide additional wind protection.

  • Q: Are extra adhesive bumpers provided for a specific purpose?
A: The adhesive bumpers are provided to prevent scratching on the fork tube when installing the main fork mount brackets. Use them as needed for additional protection.

The image at right shows the fork mount brackets and the bottom tabs. The brackets attach to the top fork clamp bolt, the small tabs attach to the bottom fork clamp bolt and then they connect together to form a complete bracket. They are in two parts because you do not want to loosen both fork clamp bolts at the same time, your fork tube could slip out of position. Install these in the order shown below.

INSTALLATION OVERVIEW

Step 1:
Remove the lower fork clamp bolt and attach the bottom tab with it. See photo at right. Orient the tab so that it sits vertical, parallel to the fork, then tighten. Repeat on the other side. If the turn signal stem is in the way, loosen it, slide it slightly upward and re-tighten. (only certain models)

Step 2:
Before installing the main fork mount bracket, place a rubber bumper at the back of each or the two screws as shown in the photo below. When installed the tips of these screws are right up against the fork tube so we don’t want them scratching the tube. Extra adhesive bumpers have been provided if necessary.

Step 3:
Remove the top fork clamp bolt and replace it with our longer bolt, the fork bracket, the spacer behind the bracket, then re-attach the bolt as shown below. As you do this, check the alignment of the bottom part of the bracket with the tab you already installed. They should overlap, and you can run the M6 screws into them to keep them aligned as you go to tighten the top fork bolt.

Step 4:

  • Once both fork brackets are bolted to the top of the forks and lined up with and overlapping with the bottom tabs, screw the brackets to the bottom tabs using the M6 screws with flat washers and lock nuts on the backside.
  • Your windshield system is not ready to use, this is the only hardware that gets bolted onto the bike. The quick-release windshield brackets will snap onto the aluminium spools on these brackets, and you will do that first before attaching the shield to the brackets.

Using the Quick-Release System

The adjustable shield brackets have U-shaped slots that slide onto the aluminium spools. Once they are set all the way in, a spring-loaded key then gets lifted and rotated over the top of the spools to lock the brackets in place. To slide the brackets onto the spools, make sure the keys are set out of the way. See below.

Windshield Installation

  1. Pre-install the Truss screws & washers into the windshield holes as shown in the image below.
  2. Once all four of the screws are in place, gently guide the screws into the Well Nuts in the brackets until all four are set.
  3. Hand tighten the Truss screws until they swell up behind the bracket and are firmly holding the windshield.

  • Once the windshield is attached to the brackets they can all be attached and detached from the bike as a complete assembly. Simply lift and rotate both locking keys on the sides of the forks, and lift everything off together.
  • If you have lower deflectors there will be another set of aluminum spools at the bottom of the windshield brackets. This is where the lowers clip on, the same way that the windshield clips onto the fork brackets. See the next page for details.

LOWER DEFLECTORS

  • The lower deflectors attach to their brackets with the M6 button screws, flat washers and lock nuts. There is an oval hole in each deflector which gets set over the spring post on each bracket.
  • Attaching the lowers to the bike is simply a matter of sliding the U-shaped slots onto the aluminum spools, and then rotating the small key down in between the two spools. (See photo below.) Make sure the key is set all the way down to lock them in.MADSTAD-ENGINEERING-Triumph-Street-Scrambler-Adjustable-Windshield-System-fig- \(8\)

Adjusting the Windshield Brackets

The knob screws release the brackets allowing the windshield to slide and tilt. These knob screws must always be tightened securely before riding. The basic starting position of the windshield should be to angle it about the same angle as your forks (maybe back slightly more), and set the top edge of the shield to be at about your chin level as you look straight ahead. Tighten the knobs and go for a ride to see if the air flows smoothly over your helmet. Do this on a calm day if at all possible; windy days make it hard to judge the airflow. Don’t ever try to adjust the mount while in motion!

To try a different windshield position, bring the motorcycle to a complete stop and out of traffic. Loosen the two knob screws and tilt the windshield forward or back 2-3 degrees or so, and/or adjust it up or down if necessary. Re-tighten the knobs and go for another ride.
