Overview
Our MadStad adjustable windshield brackets are designed to bolt to the factory
windshield mounting points.
The MadStad windshield then attaches to the front of the brackets with M5
Phillips head truss screws and washers.
Very simply, the brackets install between the shield and the factory mounting
holes.
You will need to remove the factory windshield and plastic trim plates, you
will not need them.
Removing the Factory Windshield & Front Cover
The windshield screws are covered by two plastic strips. They can be removed
by prying them off with a blade screwdriver.
Under the plastic strips are four screws that hold the windshield inplace. You
won’t need to reuse these screws. See photo on right.
For the Front Cover, you’ll find a couple of screws in the front and a couple
of more on the sides of the cover.

Side Brace Attachment
The R1200/R1250 height adjustment mechanism is not rigid and causes windshield
vibration. We have provided two slotted braces (witha zig-zag bend) that will
lock this mechanism in solidly.
On either side of the speedometer display, there are two nuts and bolts to
remove. (See photo on right.) Remove both nuts and bolts on one side of the
bike only, you will do the other side later.
On the same side you need to remove the factory plastic arms that hold the shield. They are screwed into a small plastic pivot so you will need to remove the screw on the back side of the arm (see photo below right), then remove the arm. Then remove the pivot pin running through the plastic pivot and metal brace. That pin has a retaining clip on the inside. You will need to pry that off and remove the pin which will be replaced by a slightly longer screw and nut.
The long slot on the brace will attach over the two M6 x 25mm button socket
screws and nylock nuts provided, which you will use as replacements for the
factory screws and nuts you just removed (see photo below). The short-slot
front of the bracket must zig-zag inward so that it meets the metal arm where
you just removed the pivot pin. You might need to turn the factory windshield
adjustment knob to move the mechanism into place to meet up with our brace.
Attach the front slot of the brace through the pivot hole with the M6 x 35mm
screws and nylock nuts provided (see photo at bottom-right). There are a
couple more photos on the next page to help show how this attaches.
Once the side brace is attached securely to the pivot point at the front, and the side screws and nuts are tightened as well, go ahead and repeat the process on the other side. After that you can put back the flat plastic arms that held the factory shield, you are going to attach our brackets there next.
Attach the MadStad Adjustable Brackets
The MadStad brackets are mounted right on to the factory brackets holes using
the M6 X 16 screws through the front (top) side of the brackets with flat
washers and nylock nuts on the back side. You will need a 4mm Allen wrench and
a 10mm combination or socket wrench (see photos below).
Make sure the knobs on the brackets are up and facing inward toward each other
for proper orientation.
After the adjustable brackets are on you can reattach the wide front cover
back on the front of the bike using the factory screws.
Windshield Installation
- Pre-install the Truss screws & washers into the windshield holes as shown in the image below.
- Once all four of the screws are in place, gently guide the screws into the Well Nuts in the brackets until all four are set.
- Hand tighten the Truss screws until they swell up behind the bracket and are firmly holding the windshield.
Adjusting the Brackets
The knob screws release the brackets allowing the windshield to slide and
tilt. These knobs must always be tightened securely before riding. DO NOT
attempt to adjust the brackets while riding! You must come to a complete stop
before making adjustments and make sure that you do not set the windshield in
such a way that causes your handlebars or hand guards to interfere with the
operation of your motorcycle.
Set the windshield so the top edge is at about your chin level as you look
straight ahead while seated on the bike.
Set the angle at approximately 60 degrees which is usually at the middle of
the bracket angle range. Tighten the knobs and go for a test ride. Do this on
a calm day if at all possible; windy days make it hard to judge the airflow.
Don’t ever try to adjust the brackets while in motion!
To try a different windshield position, bring the motorcycle to a complete
stop and out of traffic. Loosen the two knob screws and tilt the windshield
forward or back one or two notches, and/or adjust it up or down if necessary.
Re-tighten the knobs and go for another ride. Continue experimenting with
different positions you find a combination of height and angle that is the
most comfortable.

It is the responsibility of the user to make sure all fasteners are tightened
securely, the windshield is mounted properly and the adjustment knobs are
tightened snugly before putting the motorcycle in motion. MadStad systems ARE
NOT intended to be adjusted while the vehicle is in motion; you must pull over
out of the way of traffic and come to a complete stop before making any
changes. The user must never place the windshield in such a position as to
interfere with the safe and complete movement of the handlebars and controls.
Returns and Warranty
MadStad adjustable brackets carry a lifetime warranty against manufacturing
defects. This does not include cosmetic issues nor any parts that inherently
wear out or degrade over time such as rubber and plastic parts. Windshields,
deflectors, and other similar plastic parts are warrantied for 1 year against
manufacturing defects, not against cosmetic issues or issues related to normal
