Solar Panel Charging Behavior
-
The solar panel does not charge the Nest Doorbell at all times. It will charge the Nest Doorbell only when the solar panel’s internal battery is fully charged.
-
Below are the App screenshots for when the Nest Doorbell is charging vs not charging:
-
You may find that the doorbell is not being charged when it is under direct sunlight, as the solar panel is storing power, and will only deliver power to the doorbell once it reaches full capacity.
-
You may also see that the doorbell is being charged even when there is no sunlight, as the solar panel has stored power during daytime and can deliver power even when there is no sunlight.
FAQ
-
The solar panel is connected to Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) – Why is the battery level dropping?
The solar panel has to be exposed to direct sunlight. The “Plug-in” and “Infinity” signs in the Nest App mean the Google Nest Doorbell
(Battery) is correctly connected and being charged by the solar panel. Depending on the sunlight exposure, it may take a while to see an increase in your battery percentage. -
Why won’t the solar panel charge my Nest Doorbell (Battery) above 70%?
When connected to the solar panel, the maximum battery percentage of the Nest Doorbell (Battery) is 70%, so as to maintain the longevity of the battery. When the battery drops below 70%, the solar panel will charge it again to 70%.
Note:
In most cases, the solar panel can extend the battery life. However, if there
are many triggering events, the consumed current may exceed the charging input
from the solar panel.
You can extend the battery life by adjusting the doorbell settings. Settings
include wake-up sensitivity, maximum event length, video quality, activity
zone, and event history.
