SPRAY PAINTING TIPS
Primed is a DIY collection with shades that arrive primed and ready to decorate.
Please Note: The shade may be installed as-is, but if decorating the shade, the shade must be decorated before it is installed. For decorating ideas, visit www.goldenlighting.com/primed.

SETUP

  1. Work in a well-ventilated area. If painting outside, note the direction of the wind. Be aware that wet paint can attract bugs.
  2. Make sure the surface on which you place the shade when painting is clean and flat.
  3. Protect your clothes, hands, and the area in which you are working from over-spray.
  4. Wipe down the surface of the shade to create a smooth, clean surface for paint.
  5. Tape the inside of the small top opening with painter’s tape to prevent spray from getting inside the shade.

PAINTING

  1. Check the spray can for the details on proper spraying distance and drying times.
  2. Make sure you have enough paint to cover the shade in multiple layers.
  3. Shake the spray can well to loosen the paint and avoid clumps.
    • If the spray tip is clogged, wipe off the opening with warm water or lacquer thinner.
    • Never stick a pin or wire into the cap hole.
  4. Do a test spray on something else to practice keeping your spray paint sweeps even and light.
  5. Start at the bottom and begin spraying off to the side of the shade. In a sweeping motion, move the spray onto the surface of the shade.
  6. Spray in sweeps until the entire shade has one thin layer. Use light spray sweeps to prevent paint runs.
  7. Once the entire shade has a thin layer, allow the shade to dry fully before touching, moving, or applying additional paint to the shade.

DRYING

  1. Don’t touch it. Allow the shade to air dry completely before touching or moving.
Note: forced air (i.e. fans) may force paint to run or accumulate in one area.

  2. Wait longer! Refer to the paint can for the recommended drying time and wait longer. Make sure paint has completely cured before touching. For more tips, visit www.goldenlighting.com/primed.

CLEANING TIPS
Treat the fixture gently! Regular cleaning will reduce the need for deep cleaning. For regular cleaning, turn off the light and wipe down the fixture with a clean lint-free cotton or microfiber cloth. Never spray cleaner directly onto the fixture.

PREPARING FOR INSTALLATION

product

Remove all of the contents from the carton. See the important notes above. Shut off the power at the circuit breaker and completely remove the old fixture from the ceiling, including the old mounting strap.

  1. Take the mounting strap assembly from the parts bag. Mounting strap (B) contains several threaded holes. Two of mounting screws (A) should be attached to mounting strap (B). You may need to tighten nuts (C) that hold these screws in place. If the screws are not attached, please hold canopy (G) up to mounting strap (B). Line up the holes in canopy (G) with the holes in mounting strap (B) and insert mounting screws (A) into mounting strap (B) so that mounting screws (A) protrude through the holes in canopy (G). Mounting screws (A) are long, so please test the canopy against the mounting strap to see how far you should insert the screws. Tighten nuts (C) onto mounting screws (A) to hold the screws in place.

  2. Pull the house wires through the center of mounting strap (B). Place mounting strap (B) over the junction box so that mounting screws (A) are vertical, and in alignment with the hole locations on the fixture’s canopy (G). Secure mounting strap (B) to the junction box with mounting screws (D) and a screwdriver. Tighten the screws securely.
    ASSEMBLING THE FIXTURE

  3. Rods (J) and (K) are on the fixture’s wires. By measuring, determine the correct number of rods needed for proper hanging height. *This fixture includes (1) 6” rod (J) and (3) 12” rods (K). To shorten the fixture, slide the excess rods off the wires. Additional rods may be purchased. To lengthen the fixture, add additional rods to the wires.

  4. Pull the fixture’s wires through rods (J and/or K) until taut and thread the rods together. Thread the bottom rod into post (L). Thread the top rod to the threads of the swivel joint on canopy (G) and twist thumb screw (I) to lock in place.
    CONNECTING THE WIRES
Have an assistant support the fixture’s weight while completing the wiring. Refer to the wiring diagram and attach the fixture’s wires to the power supply wires from the junction box. Connect Hot to Hot, Neutral to Neutral, and Ground to Ground. Twist the ends of the wire pairs together, and then twist on a wire connector. Make sure all twists are in the same direction. If there is no house ground wire coming from the junction box, locate ground screw (E) on the mounting bracket/mounting strap and wrap the fixture’s ground wire around the ground screw. Use a screwdriver to tighten the top of ground screw (E) onto the wires and into the mounting bracket/ mounting strap. Tuck the wires into the junction box.GOLDEN-LIGHTING-3120-L-Primed-Single-Light-9-Inch-

    FINISHING THE INSTALLATION

  5. Place the fixture’s canopy (G) over mounting screws (A) so that mounting screws (A) protrude through the holes in canopy (G). Thread deco nuts (H) onto mounting screws (A).

  6. Slide shade (O) over socket (N) and twist socket ring (P) onto the threads of socket (N) to secure the shade in place. Note: Once installed, adjust shade angle using thumb screws (M).

  7. Install light bulb (Q – not included) in accordance with the fixture’s specifications. Do not exceed the maximum recommended wattage. Your installation is now complete. Turn on the power and test the fixture.
