- When the wiring is complete, reconnect the battery negative terminal.
- Final Installation
- Connect the wiring adapter to the existing wiring harness.
- Connect antenna lead.
- Slide radio chassis into half-sleeve.
- Secure the radio to the bracket using a nut (if possible).
- Replace any items you removed from the dashboard.

Preparation
Getting Started
- It’s a good idea to read all of the instructions before beginning the installation.
Tools and Supplies
The following tools and supplies are needed to install the radio.
- Torx type, flat-head, and Phillips screwdrivers
- Wire cutters and strippers
- Tools to remove existing radio (screwdriver, socket wrench set, or other tools)
- Electrical tape
- Crimping tool
- Volt meter/test light
- Crimp connections
- 18 gauge wire for power connections
- 16 – 18 gauge speaker wire
Speaker Requirements: Only connect speakers rated in the load impedance of 4 ohms. Speakers with a load impedance of less than 4 ohms could damage the unit.
Disconnect Battery
- Before you begin, always disconnect the battery negative terminal.
Prepare Radio
- Remove half-sleeve – Press the metal levers on both sides to remove the half-sleeve from the radio.
- Remove transport screws – Remove screws before inserting a CD.
Install Half-Sleeve
- Install an adapter if necessary (optional).
- Install half-sleeve into adapter or dashboard.
- Push tabs out to secure half-sleeve in the radio opening.
- Install a support strap to make the unit more stable.

Connect Wires
You can make all these connections without even being in the car.
- Splice or crimp wires.
- Attach the wiring adapter to the car wiring harness.
Wiring Diagram / Color Codes
- Auxilliary input
- CD changer
- Power Antenna (dark blue wire) – Connect to power antenna or amplifier. If not used, tape the bare end of the wire.
- Ground (black wire) – Connect to the ground terminal or clean, unpainted part of the chassis.
- Memory/Battery (yellow wire) – Connect to a battery or 12-volt power source that is always alive. The radio will not work if this wire is not connected.
- Accessory/Ignition (red wire) – Connect to existing radio wire or radio fuse.
- Left front speaker
- Right front speaker
- Left rear speaker
- Right rear speaker
- Front and rear RCA preamp output
- Subwoofer RCA preamp out
- Antenna
Fuses
- When replacing a fuse, make sure the new fuse is the correct type and amperage.

Installation
Final Installation
- Connect wiring adapter to existing wiring harness.
- Connect antenna lead.
- Slide radio chassis into half-sleeve.
- Secure radio to bracket using nut (if possible).
- Replace any items you removed from the dashboard.
Final ISO-DIN Installation
- Remove trim ring.
- Mount factory brackets on new radio using existing screws from old radio.
- Slide radio chassis into dash opening and secure.
- Reinstall dash panel.
Basic Operation

Power
- To turn the unit on, press any button except OPEN (1) or EJECT (See CD Player Operation section). To turn the unit off, press and hold the POWER (2) button.

Sound Adjustment (Volume, Bass, Treble, Balance, Fade) Press SEL (3) to step through the menu of audio functions: volume, bass, treble, balance, fader, and back to volume.
- Volume
- Adjust the unit’s volume from 0 (lowest) to 100 (highest) by turning the ROTARY ENCODER (4) counter-clockwise to reduce the volume, or clockwise to increase the volume.
- Bass
- Press SEL (3) two times, then use the ROTARY ENCODER (4) to adjust the bass from -10 (lowest) to 10 (highest). “00” represents a flat response.
- Treble
- Press SEL (3) three times, then use the ROTARY ENCODER (4) to adjust the treble from -10 (lowest) to 10 (highest). “00” represents a flat response.
- Balance
- Press SEL (3) four times, then use the ROTARY ENCODER (4) to adjust the balance between the right and left speakers from 10R (full right) to 10L (full left). “L=R” represents an equal balance between the right and left speakers.
- Fader
- Press SEL (3) five times, then use the ROTARY ENCODER (4) to adjust the fader between the front and rear speakers from 10F (full front) to 10R (full rear). “F=R” represents an equal balance between the front and rear speakers.

Mute
- Press MUTE (7) to silence the receiver. Press MUTE again to resume normal operation.

Loudness
- Press and hold the BAND (19) button for> 3 seconds to activate the Loudness.
- When the Loudness is on, LOUD appears in the bottom left of the display.
- Press and hold the BAND button again to turn the Loudness off.

Audible Beep
- Press SEL (3) for > 3 seconds to access the Beep Tone menu. Turn the ROTARY ENCODER (4) to select “BEEP ALL”, “BEEP 2ND”, or “BEEP OFF”.

Equalizer
- Press the EQ (22) button to turn on the equalization function.
- Continue pressing the button to select “FLAT”, “CLASSICS”, “POP M”, “JAZZ”, or “DISP OFF”.
- A selection of “CLASSICS”, “POP M”, or “JAZZ” will appear in red on the left side of the display.

Clock
- CLOCK DISPLAY
- Press the DISP (16) button to show the clock in the display. The clock will display for a few seconds and then return to the previous display.
- CLOCK ADJUSTMENT (TIME)
- Press the DISP (16) button to show the clock, and then press the DISP button again and hold for > 3 seconds until the clock flashes.
- Press the DOWN TUNING (<<-) button (18) to change the minutes and the UP TUNING (+>>) button (17) to change the hour.
- Continue changing the hour to move between AM and PM.

Subwoofer
- Press and hold the MODE (15) button for > 3 seconds to activate the sub-woofer output. When subwoofer is selected, “Sub.W” will appear in the top right corner of the display. Subwoofer
- RCA preamp out is crossed over @ 200Hz. (Fixed output can be turned on/off from the front panel but it cannot be varied in level.)

Auxiliary Input
- Press MODE (15) for < 3 seconds to access the Auxiliary Input mode. Plug an audio device into the unit using the auxiliary input jack to listen to an auxiliary audio source (MP3, cassette player, etc.).

Front Panel Detachment
- Press the OPEN (1) button, and pull gently on right side of the front panel to remove. To reinstall, slip the left edge of the front panel into the radio and press into place.
Tuner Operation
- Press the OPEN (1) button, and pull gently on right side of the front panel to remove. To reinstall, slip the left edge of the front panel into the radio and press into place.

Select a Band
- Press BAND (19) to change between three FM bands and one AM band. Each band stores up to six preset stations.

Local/Distant
- Press the LO/DX (6) button to switch between stronger local stations and weaker distant stations. This setting is effective when using the Scan function.

Mono/Stereo
- Press MON button (21) to select mono or stereo mode. You can sometimes improve reception of distant stations by selection mono operation.

Tuning
- Manual Tuning
- Press the UP TUNING (+>>) or DOWN TUNING (<<-) button (17 and 18) for > 3 seconds until “MANUAL” appears on the display.
- Press the UP TUNING (+>>) or DOWN TUNING (<<-) button to move the radio frequency number up or down one step.
- Seek Tuning
- Press the UP TUNING (+>>) or DOWN TUNING (<<-) button (17 and 18) for < 3 seconds to move to the next station automatically.

Scan
- Press SCAN (21) to scan through strong stations in the current band. The radio pauses for five seconds at each strong station.
- Press SCAN again to listen to the current station.

Preset Stations
- Six numbered preset buttons store and recall stations for each band.
- Store a Station
- Select a band (if needed), then select a station.
- Hold a preset button (8 – 13) for three seconds. The preset number will appear in the display.
- Recall a Station
- Select a band (if needed).
- Press a preset button (8 – 13) to select the corresponding stored station.

Auto Store (AS) / Preset Scan (PS)
- Automatically Store
- Automatically select six strong stations and store them in the current band.
- Select a band (if needed).
- Press AS/PS (14) for > 3 seconds.
- The new stations replace stations already stored in that band.
- Preset Scan
- Scan stations stored in the current band.
- Select a band (if needed).
- Press AS/PS (14) for < 3 seconds. The unit will pause for 5 seconds at each preset station.
- Press AS/PS again to stop scanning when the desired station is reached. CD Player Operation

Insert and Eject CD
- Press the OPEN (1) button and let the front panel flip down to display the CD slot.
- Insert a CD label-side up, and return the face plate to the locked position.
- The disc will automatically begin to play.
- To stop CD play and eject the CD, press the open button open the unit, and then press the EJECT (25) button.
- The unit does not have to be turned on to eject the CD.

Play/Pause
- Press the (8) button to suspend or resume disc play.

Track Selection
- Select a Track
- Press the UP TUNING (+>>) or DOWN TUNING (<<-) buttons (17 and 18) for < 1 second to advance to the next track on the CD. The selected track number will appear on the display.
- Audible Fast Forward / Fast Reverse
- Press and hold the UP TUNING (+>>) or DOWN TUNING (<<-) buttons (17 and 18) for > 1 second to fast forward or fast reverse. CD play starts when the button is released.

Scan (SCN)
- Press SCN (9) to play the first several seconds of each song/file on the current disk. Press SCN again to stop the scan function.

Repeat (RPT)
- Press RPT (10) < 3 seconds during disc play to continuously repeat the selected track.
- Press RPT (10) > 3 seconds during disc play to continuously repeat the entire disc.
- Press RPT again to stop the repeat function. (While in CD changer mode the RPT functions operate in the same manner as single disc mode.)

Shuffle (SHF)
- Press SHF (11) during disc play to play all tracks on a CD in random, shuffled order. Press and hold SHF (CD changer only) during disc play to play all discs and tracks in a random, shuffled order. Press SHF again to stop random play.

CD Care
- Do not expose the CD player to extremely high or low temperatures. Do not drive with an ejected CD in the slot.
Remote Control
- The remote control will allow you to control the basic functions of the CD4720.
- The remote control sensor is at the top left of the BAND (19) button.
CD Changer Operation
- Please call Jensen technical support at 1-800-323-4815 for a list of CD changers compatible with this unit. Refer to the owner’s manual included with the CD changer for instructions on installing, loading and using the CD magazine.
CD Changer Mode
- Press MODE (15) during tuner or disc play to select operation of the CD changer. Disc play will begin, and the disc and track numbers will be shown in the display. If a new magazine has been loaded into the changer, play will begin from the first track of the first disc.
- If a magazine was already in the changer, play will resume where it last ended.
Disc Select
- To select the desired disc for play, press preset 6 (disc UP) or preset 5 (disc DOWN). The number of the disc selected will appear in the display.
Other Features
- Pause, Repeat, Random, Intro Scan and Track Select features during CD changer play are accessed in the same methods as for regular disc play. Refer to the CD Player Operation section of this manual for details.

Remove Radio From Dash
- To remove the radio from the dash, detach the front panel and remove the trim ring by gently pulling up in the middle to release the plastic snaps.
- Insert removal keys between the radio chassis and sleeve to depress locking springs.
- Pull the radio out of the dash.

AUDIOVOX CORPORATION (the Company) warrants to the original retail purchaser of this product that should this product or any part thereof, under normal use and conditions, be proven defective in material or workmanship within 12 months from the date of original purchase, such defect(s) will be repaired or replaced with new or reconditioned product (at the Company’s option) without charge for parts and repair labor.
