Introduction
The PEXUSB3S4V 4-Port PCI Express SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card (with SATA Power) adds 4 external USB 3.0 ports to any PCI Express-enabled computer system. SuperSpeed USB 3.0 provides up to 5 Gbps of data bandwidth, while still being backward compatible with existing USB 2.0 devices at 480Mbps. Using a “stacked” port layout that places the ports one on top of the other, more ports are able to fit into a smaller space. This allows for all four USB 3.0 ports to be external facing, while still allowing the 4 port USB 3.0 card to fit into a small form factor/low profile computer system. With a built-in SATA power connector, each USB port can provide up to 900mA of power to USB 3.0 devices (500mA for USB 2.0) by connecting to your computer power supply. This USB 3.0 PCIe card is backed by a StarTech.com 2-year warranty and free lifetime technical support.

Installation
WARNING! PCI Express cards, like all computer equipment, can be severely damaged by static electricity. Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your computer case or touching your PCI Express card. StarTech.com recommends that you wear an anti-static strap when installing any computer component. If an anti-static strap is unavailable, discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a large grounded metal surface (such as the computer case) for several seconds. Also, be careful to handle the PCI Express card by its edges and not the gold connectors.
Hardware Installation
- Turn your computer off and any peripherals connected to the computer (i.e. Printers, external hard drives, etc.). Unplug the power cable from the rear of the power supply on the back of the computer and disconnect all peripheral devices.
- Remove the cover from the computer case. See the documentation for your computer system for details.
- Locate an open PCI Express slot and remove the metal cover plate on the rear of the computer case (Refer to the documentation for your computer system for details.). Note that this card will work in PCI Express slots of additional lanes (i.e. x4, x8, or x16 slots).
- Insert the card into the open PCI Express slot and fasten the bracket to the rear of the case.
- NOTE: If installing the card into a small form factor/low profile system, replacing the pre-installed full profile bracket with the included low profile installation bracket may be necessary.
- OPTIONAL: Connect a 15-pin SATA power connector from the computer’s power supply to the SATA power connector on the card. This is only required if using the ports with bus-powered USB devices (no external power adapter) or if experiencing connectivity issues.
- Place the cover back onto the computer case.
- Insert the power cable into the socket on the power supply and reconnect all other connectors removed in Step 1.
Driver Installation
- Once the computer has started and the operating system is fully loaded, insert the provided Driver CD into the computer’s CD/DVD drive.
