Removal of Door/Window Sensor
Start by taking a picture of the door/window sensors to be used as a reference if you are considering repositioning the sensor at a later date. The larger of the two pieces is the sensor and the smaller is the magnet.
-
With the use of the flathead screwdriver, remove the sensor cover to determine if the sensor is attached with adhesive tape or screwed in
a. If stuck with adhesive tape, remove the sensor by using a thin, sharp knife to carefully cut through the tape to release
b. If stuck with a screw remove the backplate by sliding the sensor up or down off the backplate, remove screw to release -
Arm and disarm the alarm to clear panel alert
-
Remove the magnet using the same process as step #1
-
Place both magnet and sensor in a secure place
-
If you are removing more than one sensor, label the sensor/magnet with the location i.e. kitchen sliding door, if you wish to reposition the sensor in the same location
-
If you have not done so in a while, this may be a good opportunity to replace the batteries in the sensor.
Repositioning of Door/Window Sensor
Ensure to have screws or adhesive tape, depending on your door and preference
-
Determine where you want to place the sensor/magnet.
a. Recommended to attach the sensor on the top of the door/window and on the fixed frame
b. Recommended to attach the magnet to the door/window
c. Magnet should not be located more than a 0.25 of an inch apart from the sensor, or it will show open even when its closed
d. To bring the magnet closer to the sensor, adhere a thin piece of wood to the bottom of the magnet before attaching it to the frame -
If using a screw, secure the backplate to the frame
-
Secure the sensor onto the backplate by sliding it into place. Or secure the backplate using adhesive tape
-
Line up the magnet to the sensor
-
Secure magnet with adhesive tape
-
Arm and disarm the alarm to clear panel alert
If the alert does not clear or if the panel sensor shows tamper, walk through the steps above once more. It could be the sensor cover is not on properly or the sensor and magnet are not properly aligned
