Connecting to Wi-Fi and receiving updates

Follow the steps below to ensure your device can receive updates.

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi by swiping down from the top of the screen and long pressing the icon.
  2. If no networks show up despite being in range, ensure that the toggle switch to the right of the “Use Wi-Fi” text is turned on (it should be green, not grey).
  3. Tap on the network you wish to connect to, enter the network info required, and tap “Connect.”
  4. Swipe down from the top of the screen to confirm Bluetooth is enabled. If the Bluetooth icon is green, Bluetooth is enabled. If it is grey, tap on the icon and Bluetooth should turn on.
  5. If either Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth will not turn back on, ensure that Airplane Mode is disabled by making sure the airplane icon is grey and not green.

Ensure that the correct process for connection is being followed and the VCI is connected to a network.

  1. Plug the OBD-II port into the asTech Link.
  2. Connect the asTech Link to the vehicle. Ensuring the car is in a key-OFF state, Engine OFF state.
  3. Once the asTech Link powers ON, turn the vehicle to Key-ON, Engine-OFF.
  4. Press Remote Diagnostic>WLAN>Connect on the asTech Link.
  5. The asTech Link should automatically remember your network credentials and connect to Wi-Fi.
  6. The asTech Link will connect to the asTech server and search for any updates.
  7. Once two blue check marks are highlighted indicating Read VIN and Connect to Server, you are ready to scan using the All-In-One tablet.

When connecting the VCI to a vehicle, it may display “Server access failed.”

  1. This message can typically be safely skipped over by tapping the “Skip” button at the top right or left corner of the VCI screen.

“Function inactive or expired” error message

Some VCIs may show this message upon trying to connect to a vehicle and will not go further. This is caused by the rare instance of the VCI not having been activated before being shipped.

  1. Call asTech customer service at 888-486-1166 to get the VCI activated.

“Something went wrong” error message

The asTech Connect App can sometimes show this message upon trying to submit a scan. This is typically caused by something on the backend being misconfigured or stuck.

  1. Wait 5-10 minutes and retry the submission. This allows time for any tools the device was previously paired to fully unpair.
  2. If the issue persists, contact customer service at 888-486-1166.

The All-In-One App may display this message if there is a firewall issue preventing a connection to the All-In-One servers. This message may also appear if there has been an issue with device activation.
