Sew Outside the Box Shamrock Coaster Pattern

Product Information

The Shamrock Coaster is a pattern and instructions set provided by Shamrock Coaster Pattern & Instructions. It is a sewing project that allows users to create a coaster with a shamrock design. The materials needed for this project include main fabric, backing fabric, cotton batting, scrap green fabric, border fabric, fusible web (Heat N Bond Lite), and usual sewing supplies. The pattern and instructions are available for free and can be accessed through the @sewotb website. Users are encouraged to share their finished creations by tagging @sewotb and to subscribe to the YouTube channel for more sewing videos.

Product Usage Instruction

  1. Print the pattern page using Adobe Acrobat and ensure that the 1 test square is measured correctly for scale. The printer settings should be set to 100%.
  2. Cut the fabrics according to the dimensions specified in the cut chart above.
  3. Apply the top border fabric, right sides together (RST), and sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Repeat this step with the side, bottom, and side border strips. Press the seams towards the border pieces.
  4. Trace the Shamrock shape onto the fusible web. Roughly cut around the shape and press it onto the back of the green scrap fabric using a hot iron. Carefully cut around the applique shape, peel off the paper backing, and use a hot iron to press the applique onto the block.
  5. Place the cotton batting behind the block and sew around the applique using your preferred stitch. A straight stitch is used in the video tutorial. Pull the threads to the back.
  6. Add the backing fabric to the layers and square up the block.
  7. Place the backing fabric and main fabric, right sides together (RST), and sew around the shape with a 1/4 inch seam allowance. Leave an opening for turning.
  8. Turn the coaster right side out, push out the corners, tuck the opening in on itself, and press. Finally, topstitch around the outer edge. If any errors are found in the pattern or instructions, please notify Shamrock Coaster Pattern & Instructions for correction. For additional guidance, a sewing video tutorial is available.
