SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Product specifications
- This product is a motorization for a sliding gate, for residential use as defined in standard EN 60335-2-103, with which it complies.
- The main purpose of these instructions is to satisfy the requirements of the aforementioned standard and to ensure the safety of equipment and persons.
Important safety instructions
DANGER
The drive must be installed and set by a professional drive and home
automation installer, in compliance with the regulations of the country in
which it has been commissioned. Furthermore, they must follow the instruc-
tions in this manual throughout the installation procedure. Failure to comply
with these instructions may result in serious injury. Users do not have the
right to make any modifications whatsoever.
WARNING
For reasons of personal safety, it is important to follow all the
instructions, as incorrect use can lead to serious injury. Retain these
instructions.
The keypad for setting the parameters is locked to ensure user safety. The
parameters must only be unlocked and adjusted by a professional drive and home
automation installer. Any changes which do not comply with these instructions
could result in personal injury or property damage. Somfy cannot be held
liable for any damage resulting from non-compliance with the instructions in
this manual.
WARNING
- Using the product
- It is strictly prohibited to use this product on any other gate than the original.
- It is prohibited to add any accessory or component not recommended by Somfy. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury, e.g. crushing by the gate.
If you have any doubts over using the drive, or to obtain additional
information, please consult the website www.somfy.com.
These instructions may be modified in the event of a change to the standards
or the drive.
Safety instructions relating to the use
WARNING
This drive may be used by children aged 8 and over and by persons whose
physical, sensory or mental capacities are impaired, or persons with little
experience or knowledge, as long as they are correctly supervised or have
received instructions on how to use the drive safely, and fully understand the
associated risks. Do not allow children to play with the drive control
devices. Keep the remote controls out of the reach of children.
Children must not be allowed to clean or maintain the unit.
WARNING
- Any potential users must be shown how to use the drive by the installer, applying all the recommendations in this manual. It is essential to ensure that no untrained persons can operate the door.
- The user must monitor the gate during any movements, and keep people away from it until the door is fully open or closed.
- Do not deliberately prevent the gate from moving.
The sound pressure level of the drive is less than or equal to 70 dB(A). The noise emitted by the structure to which the drive will be connected is not taken into account.
WARNING
- Do not use the drive if it needs repairing or adjusting. Gates in poor condition must be repaired, reinforced, or even replaced.
- In case of malfunction, disconnect the drive from any power supply and unlock it immediately to gain access to it.
- Contact a professional drive and home automation installer immediately.
- Manual unlocking may result in uncontrolled movement of the gate.
- Do not try to open the gate manually if the drive has not been unlocked.
DANGER
If the power supply cable is damaged, it must be replaced by the installer,
the After-Sales department, or a similarly qualified individual to prevent any
danger.
DANGER
The drive must be disconnected from any power supply during cleaning,
maintenance, and when parts are replaced.
- Make sure that there are no natural obstacles (branches, stone, long grass, etc.) that could obstruct the door’s movement.
- If the installation is equipped with photoelectric cells and/or an orange light, regularly clean the photo-electric cell optical units and the orange light.
- Have the drive checked every year by a qualified technician.
WARNING
- Check each month that the drive changes direction when the gate encounters an object measuring 50 mm positioned halfway up the leaf.
- Check the installation every month to detect any signs of wear or damage to the cables and assembly.
- If this is not the case, contact a professional drive and home automation installer immediately.
About the batteries
DANGER: Do not leave batteries of any kind within reach of children. Keep them in a place inaccessible to children. There is a risk that they could be swallowed by children or pets. Danger of death! If this does occur, seek medical advice immediately or go to hospital. Ensure that the batteries are not short-circuited, thrown in the fire, or recharged. There is a risk of explosion.
Recycling and disposal
If installed, the battery must be removed from the motorisation before the
latter is disposed of.
Do not dispose of used remote control or other batteries, if installed, with
household waste. They must be taken to the relevant recycling points.
Do not dispose of the motorisation with household waste at the end of its
life. Return the motorisation to its distributor or use your local authority’s
special waste collection services.
USE AND OPERATION
Normal Operation
Operation with a 2 or 4-button remote control
Complete opening
Partial opening
Stop
Obstacle detection mode
- When an obstacle is detected during opening, the gate will stop and then withdraw
- When an obstacle is detected during closing, the gate will stop and re-open.
When an obstacle has been detected, allow the gate to open fully.
Specific modes
Operation with a 3-button remote control
Photoelectric cells operation
- Cells obscured when opening = the status of the cells is disregarded, and the gate continues to move.
- Cells obscured when closing = stop + complete reopening.
- If the cells are blocked for 3 minutes or more, the system switches to “wired dead man” mode. In this mode, a command via the wired input causes movement at low speed.
The movement lasts for as long as the command is issued and stops when it is discontinued. The system switches back to normal mode as soon as the cells are no longer blocked.
CAUTION: “Wired dead man” mode requires the use of a safety contact (e.g. keyed re-versing switch).
Operation with orange flashing light: The orange light is activated during any gate movement.
A 2-s warning before movement begins can be programmed during installation.
Area lighting operation
- Depending on the programming performed during installation, the lighting will come on as soon as the motor is started up, and go off after the programmed time delay.
- If a remote control is programmed to control the lighting, it operates as follows:
Operation with automatic closing
- Automatic closing will take place after a time delay programmed during installation.
- A new command sent during this time delay will cancel automatic closing, and the motorized product will remain open.
The following command will close it.
Operation using the backup battery
If a backup battery is installed, the drive can run even during a power
outage. It will operate under the following conditions:
With a 9.6V battery:
- Low speed
- The peripherals (photoelectric cells, orange light, wired code keypad, etc.) will not operate.
With a 24V battery:
Operates as normal: nominal speed, accessories functional.
Battery capacities:
- Life: 24 h; 3 operating cycles for an io motor, and 5 operating cycles for an RTS motor, depending on the weight of the gate.
- Recharging time: 48 h
- Service life before replacement: Approximately 3 years.
Adding a 4-button remote control
This operation is used to copy the function of a button on a memorized re-mote
control to a button on a new remote control.
Remote control “A” = “source” remote control already memorised
Remote control “B” = “target” remote control to be memorised
For example, if the button on remote control A opens the gate fully, the but-
ton on the new remote control B will also open the gate fully.
Unlocking and locking the motor
Unlocking the motor
- Insert the key.
- Turn the key a quarter of a turn to the left.
- Turn the handle to the right.
CAUTION: Do not forcibly push the gate. Hold the gate over its entire travel during manual manoeuvres.
Locking
- Place the gate approximately 1 m from its closed position.
- Turn the release handle to the left.
- Move the gate manually until the drive mechanism locks.
- Turn the key a quarter of a turn to the right.
- Remove the key.
CAUTION: The drive must be locked before a new command.
MAINTENANCE
Checks
Safety devices
Check for correct operation every 6 months.
