Explanation of symbols
The following symbols appear on the product/device or in the text:
- This symbol warns of hazards that can lead to personal injury. Read the information carefully.
- This symbol warns of a dangerous voltage that can lead to injuries due to electric shock. Read the information carefully.
- This symbol warns against hot components that can cause injury from burns or ignition of combustible or explosive materials.
Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety
information. If you do not follow the safety instructions and information on
proper handling, we will assume no liability for any resulting personal injury
or damage to property. Such cases will invalidate the warranty/guarantee.
General information
- This product is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
- Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. It may become a dangerous plaything for children.
- Should you have any questions or concerns after reading this document, please contact our technical support or a professional technician.
- Maintenance, modifications and repairs must be carried out by a technician or a specialist repair centre.
- Avoid operation near strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields, transmitter aerials or HF generators. These may prevent the product from functioning properly.
Operation
- Consult an expert when in doubt about the operation, safety or connection of the device.
- Disconnect the product from the mains when not in use. Never leave the repair gun unattended, even during breaks.
- The clamp and current terminals become very hot. Never touch these components, and allow them to cool down before removing the repair gun from the clamp or the workpiece.
- Only touch the repair gun using the insulated handle.
- Always allow the clamps and heating element of the gun to cool down completely before placing it in the storage box or in its storage location.
- Always allow the clamps to cool down before replacing them, and only replace them when the gun is switched off.
- When the clamp is disconnected from the current terminals under load (with the device switched on), sparks may be produced. For this reason, the repair gun must only be used in locations away from flammable or explosive materials.
- Do not hold the clamp, other components, or the repair gun in liquids.
- Allow the repaired area to cool down before checking the seal. Thermoplastics are poor heat conductors and therefore require some time to cool down.
- If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any accidental use. DO NOT attempt to repair the product yourself. The safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
- is visibly damaged,
- is no longer working properly,
- has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions, or
- has been subjected to any serious transport-related stress.
Handling
Handle the product carefully. Impact, shocks or a fall even from a low height
can damage the product.
Operating environment
- Do not expose the product to any mechanical stress.
- Protect the product from extreme temperatures, strong jolts, flammable gases, steam and solvents.
- Protect the product from high humidity and moisture.
- Protect the product from direct sunlight.
- Never switch the device on immediately after taking it from a cold into a warm environment.
- This may cause condensation to form, which can destroy the product. Allow the product to reach room temperature before using it.
Power cord
- Never attempt to modify the electrical components of the plastic repair gun. Risk of death by electric shock!
- Always ensure that the mains plug is properly connected.
- Do not make any modifications to the product.
- The main socket must be located near the appliance and be easily accessible.
- Never plug in or unplug the mains plug when your hands are wet.
- Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the device from the mains socket. Always pull it from the mains socket using the intended grips.
- Unplug the mains plug from the mains socket if you do not plan to use the product for an extended period.
- Unplug the device from the power outlet during a thunderstorm for safety reasons.
- Make sure that the power cord is not squeezed, bent, damaged by sharp edges or exposed to mechanical stress.
- Avoid excessive thermal stress on the main cable from extreme heat or cold.
- Do not make any modifications, as this may damage the power cord. A damaged power cord can cause a fatal electric shock.
- Do not touch the main cable if it is damaged.
- First, power down the respective mains socket (e.g. via the respective circuit breaker), and then carefully pull the mains plug from the mains socket.
- Never use the product if the main cable is damaged.
- A damaged mains cable may only be replaced by the manufacturer, a workshop commissioned by the manufacturer, or a similarly qualified person to prevent any danger.
- Make sure that the cable is not pinched, kinked or damaged by sharp edges.
- Always lay cables so that nobody can trip over or become entangled in them. Risk of injury!
Product overview
- On/off switch
- LED light (switches on when in use)
- Current terminals
- Handle
- Clamp
Handling
- Select a suitable clamp and insert it into the current terminals on the repair gun. The contact pins on the clamps are slightly further apart than the current terminals so that they clip into the current terminals due to their spring tension. Additional measures to fix the clamp in place are not necessary, as the clamp remains in the workpiece after the welding process and is pulled out of the gun.
- Press and hold the on/off switch (1) to heat up the clamp (5). The clamp will heat up due to its electrical resistance.
Recommendations for repair of plastic parts
- Plastics should never be heated above their decomposition temperature, as this has a significant impact on their mechanical properties. In the case of thermoplastics, this is usually between 250°C-320°C. For this reason, it is recommended not to heat the clamps before attaching them to the workpiece, but to attach them first and then start the heating process. Due to the heat release, the temperature in the melt bath can be kept much more even.
- Larger amounts of smoke indicate an excessive temperature. In this case, press the on/off switches in pulses and melt the clamp into the workpiece.
- Once the clamp has melted into the desired position, release the on/off switch and wait 2 seconds until the thermoplastic has cooled down such that the clamp remains firmly in the workpiece.
- After approx. 1 minute, the material should have cooled down sufficiently to be able to cut off the contacts of the clamp with the enclosed string cutter.
- Thicker materials can sometimes be processed better if the clamp is inserted into the workpiece by turning it back and forth slightly. This helps the materials to melt together better.
- In the case of long cracks, it is best to start at the open end and then work towards the end of the crack.
- Continuous cracks or multiple components can be welded from the outside to the centre.
Applications of supplied clamp types
**** | Flat clamps Φ 0,8 mm | For small cracks in solid plastics. |
---|---|---|
**** | Wavy clamps Φ 0,8 mm | For larger, long cracks or complete cracks in |
solid plastics.
| Corner clamps Φ 0,8 mm| For connecting cracks in corners, bent
components or similar complex shapes.
| M clamps Φ 0,6 mm| For connecting cracks in corners, bent components
or similar complex shapes.
Troubleshooting
Problem | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
The clamp does not become hot. | No mains voltage or defective transformer. |
Check the mains voltage.
The clamp does not get hot enough.| The resistance between the clamp and
current terminals is too high. There is dirt in the current terminals, or the
clamp contacts are dirty.| Clean the contacts
The device gets very hot (> 50°C)| The device has been switched on for too
long.| Allow to cool and try again. If the gun heats up quickly,
another defect may be present.
Problem | Cause | Solution |
---|---|---|
Sparks are generated between the current terminals and the clamp. | The clamp | |
was removed during the operation. | Release the on/off switch first and then |
remove the clamp. Always ensure good ventilation and keep in mind that spark- generating equipment must not be operated in the vicinity of flammable substances.
Cleaning and care
Important
