FLOWMASTER 718146 Performance Exhaust Instruction Manual

OVERVIEW

Take a moment to read and understand these instructions before installing your Flowmaster performance exhaust.

NOTES

• Before starting, use the parts list and drawing to verify your kit’s contents. In the unlikely event that any parts are missing, please contact Flowmaster Technical Support for replacements.
• Instruction photos show installation of a similar kit on a 4-door Bronco. But the removal and installation procedures are identical, and the parts list and drawing are correct for the 2-door kit.

REMOVE STOCK EXHAUST SYSTEM:

Raise vehicle up on a hoist or rack to working height. If you don’t have access to a hoist or rack, support vehicle with jack stands.

WARNING
Avoid serious burns! Allow your vehicle time to cool completely before touching any factory engine components.

To ease preparation and installation of your new kit:

1. Apply penetrating lubricant to mounts, bolts and clamps before you remove them.

2. Use stands as necessary to support parts as you detach them from your vehicle and again as you install new
   parts.
   

3. Support exhaust then dismount muffler from isolators. Loosen clamp from inlet then remove muffler from vehicle. Dismount isolators from factory mounts.
   

4. Support the front pipe, then remove the flange fasteners. Unbolt the is olator mount from frame, separate rear wire hanger from is olator, then remove front pipe from vehicle.
   

NOTE orientation of is olator mount, and retain flange fasteners, gasket, and isolator mount screws for use at re-installation.

INSTALL FLOWMA STER EXHAUST SYSTEM:

Apply anti-seize compound to all threaded fasteners, to prevent galling, seizing and corrosion.

Fasten the isolator mount to the inlet pipe (1) with shoulder bolt (15) and lock washer (11). Place the stock gasket between the flex pipe and inlet pipe flanges, fasten the inlet pipe to the flex pipe with the stock screws, and fasten the isolator mount to the vehicle frame.

NOTE: Fasten the parts to the vehicle with the stock fasteners removed at Step 4.

Place clamp (6) onto the mid pipe (2), situate the pipe over the axle, and connect it to the inlet pipe. Snug the clamp just enough to allow adjustment during system assembly

Fasten the right hanger (4) to the passenger-side frame studs with 2 lock nuts (14). Fasten the left hanger (5) to driver-side frame using 2 bolts (8) and flat washers (10) inside the frame, and 2 lock washers (11) and nuts (9) against the hanger. Install the 2 rubber hangers (7) on the hanger rods.

Place clamp (6) onto muffler (3), and connect the muffler to the mid pipe. Insert the muffler’s wire hangers in the rubber hangers, and snug the clamp just enough to allow for adjustment.

Adjust the fit of all exhaust components, maintaining 1/2″ clearance and allowing for suspension travel and vibration. Then tighten both clamps. Finally, install the 5 hanger keepers (12 & 13) onto each wire hanger.

RECOMMENDED: Secure the slip-fit pipe connections with a 1-inch tack weld, then spray the welds with hightemp paint to prevent premature corrosion.

Congratulations, the installation of your FLOWMASTER performance exhaust system is now complete!
