General information

About this manual

This operating manual describes how to safely use and care for your products. Keep this operating manual in a safe place in case you would like to refer to it later. If you pass this item on to someone else, pass on this manual as well. Failure to observe the recommendations in this operating manual can lead to injuries or damage to your product.

Safety

  • This item can be used by children 8 years of age and above, as well as by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capacities or lacking experience and knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed in the safe use of the item and understand the dangers that may arise.
  • Children must not play with the item.
  • Cleaning and user maintenance must not be carried out by children, unless they are 8 years of age or older and are being supervised.
  • Batteries, when swallowed, can be life-threatening. Therefore, keep the batteries and scales out of the reach of small children.

If a battery is swallowed, medical assistance must be sought immediately.

DANGER for Children

  • Keep children away from packaging material. Risk of choking if swallowed.

RISK of fire/burning and/or explosion

  • Risk of explosion if batteries are improperly replaced. Replace batteries only with the same or equivalent battery type. Observe the “Technical Data”.
  • Batteries must not be recharged, reactivated by other means, dismantled, thrown into fire, or short-circuited. Otherwise there is an increased risk of explosion and leakage; furthermore, gases may escape!
  • Avoid contact of the battery fluid with skin, eyes, and mucosa. In case of contact, rinse the affected areas right away with plenty of clean water and consult a doctor immediately.

BEWARE of material damage

  • Do not overload the scales and take note of the “Technical Data”.
  • Only use the spoon scales for weighing.
  • Protect the scales from strong impacts and vibrations.
  • Remove the batteries from the product, if it is used up or is not going to be used for a long period. Avoid damage that may result from leakage.
  • When inserting and changing batteries, pay attention to the correct polarity (+/-).
  • Do not subject the batteries to extreme conditions by e.g. storing them on heaters or exposed to direct sunlight. Increased risk of leakage!
  • Clean the battery and device contacts, as needed, before inserting the battery.
  • Only use batteries of the same type. Do not use different types or used and new batteries together.
  • Do not make any modifications to the product. Only allow repairs to be carried out at a specialist workshop. Improper repairs may considerably endanger the user.
  • Do not use the scales near devices that generate electromagnetic radiation, such as mobile phones, radio equipment or the like. This may lead to incorrect data display or malfunction.
  • Do not put any objects on the scales, when you store them e.g. in a cabinet. Heavy objects may damage the sensitive measurement electronics or the scales themselves.

The material is suitable for food contact.

Intended Use

The scales are designed for weighing seasonings, herbs, etc. The maximum load capacity of 300 g must not be exceeded.
The scales are unsuitable for commercial use e.g. in catering or medicine. The scales may not be used as a spoon.

Overview

Clean the spoon attachment before using it for the first time; see chapter “Cleaning”.

Inserting/changing batteries

  1. Push the locking tab towards the battery compartment cover and remove the battery compartment cover.
  2. Insert the batteries as shown on the bottom of the battery compartment. Observe the correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Slide the battery compartment lid back into place until stop.

Suggestions for changing the battery:

  • Battery replacement is necessary if the display shows either a battery symbol or nothing at all.
  • Only use the battery type specified in the “Technical Data”.
  • Always exchange all of the batteries at the same time.
  • Dispose of old batteries in an environmentally friendly manner, see “Disposal”.
Use

– Insert spoon attachment in the scale.

Weighing
  1. Take the spoon scales in your hand and hold horizontally.
  2. Press ON/OFF/TARE to switch on the scales.
  3. When the display shows “0.0”, press and hold down /UNIT to select the unit of measurement (oz or g).
  4. Put the item to be weighed in the spoon attachment and read the measurement result on the display.
  5. Press and hold ON/OFF/TARE for approx. 3 seconds to switch off the scales.

Otherwise, the scales switch off after approx.
1 minutes when not in use.

Weighing liquids

You can also use the spoon attachment to weigh liquids. The spoon attachment scale displays quantities of 15 – 45 ml or 1-3 tablespoons (tbsp). Therefore, the scale does not have to be switched on.

TARE Function
  1. Proceed as described in “Weighing” (point 1 – 4).
  2. Press 1x the ON/OFF/TARE button to zero indication on the display. In addition, “TARE” will be displayed.
  3. Add new item to be weighed and read the result. The process can be repeated as often as needed until the capacity limit (300 g) is reached.

If the display shows a negative value (symbol ), press ON/OFF/TARE once to reset the display to “0.0”.

Adding weights

When adding, the unit of measurement cannot be changed.

The display can show several measurements (in each case up to 300 g) added together.

  1. Proceed as described in “Weighing” (point 1 – 4).

  2. Press the ∑/UNIT button.
    The display will show the measurement result and ∑.

  3. Empty the spoon attachment and refill. Now the display shows the added weight of both measurements.

  4. Proceed as described to perform further measurements, if necessary.

The process can be repeated as often as needed until a total weight of 3000 g is reached.

Hold function

With hold function active, the weight of the item is further displayed after the weighed good is removed from the spoon attachment.

  1. Proceed as described in “Weighing” (point 1 – 4).
  2. Press the HOLD button.
  3. Remove the weighed item and read the result.
  4. Press HOLD again to reset the display to “0.0”.
Resetting the scales

Only required if abnormal or apparently false values are displayed.

  1. Remove the batteries and wait for a moment.
  2. Insert the batteries correctly again (+/-).
Cleaning

Do not immerse in water or other liquids. Do not use rough, scratching or abrasive cleaning agents.
Clean the scales immediately after use, especially after the contact of the scales with fat, seasonings, vinegar and other heavily spiced and/or coloured food items.
– Wipe the scales by a soft, slightly moistened cloth.
– The spoon attachments can be removed for easier cleaning and cleaned in washing-up liquid.
– Avoid contact with citric acid.
– Remove the spoon attachment for storage.

Fault and remedy

No function.

  • Battery empty or inserted the wrong way around?
    “O-Ld” will be shown on the display.

  • The maximum capacity of 300 g (or 3000 g when “adding weights”) has been exceeded.

The display will show “oUt2”.

  • When switching on, the spoon attachment already has a weight of more than 30 g. “unSt” is shown on the display.

  • The scale is not stable and/or held straight.
    The display shows a battery symbol.

  • Batteries are flat and must be replaced.

The company GRENDS GmbH guarantees for 2 years from the purchase date the cost-free rectification of defects on the basis of material or fabrication errors through repair or exchange. In the event of a warranty claim, please return the product with the proof of purchase (stipulating the reason for claim) to your dealer.

Disposing of the packaging

Dispose of the packaging with similar materials. Put cardboard with waste paper, films with recyclable materials.

Dispose of the product in accordance with the regulations that apply in your country.

Devices must not be disposed of in normal household waste

At the end of its life, the product must be disposed of in an appropriate way.

In this way, valuable materials contained in the device will be recycled and the burden on the environment avoided. Hand in the old device at a collection point for electronic waste or at a recycling depot. For more information, contact your local waste disposal firm or your local administrative body.

Disposal BRecyclable and disposable batteries do not belong in household waste

All batteries must be handed in at a collection point in your community, suburb, or at the retailer. Such batteries can thus be disposed of in an environmentally friendly way.
