spectralink Versity 92/95/96 Series User Guide
Introduction
This Quick Reference Guide (QRG) provides a brief overview of the most commonly used features of the Versity smartphone.
Spectralink Versity smartphones combine the familiarity of the Android™ platform with an exceptional durability. Spectralink applications are tailored for business use and provide the advanced functionality needed for a workplace environment.
The 95xx and 92xx models operate as Wi-Fi devices that utilize the wireless infrastructure installed at your workplace for connection and communication. The 96xx models are both cell phones and Wi-Fi phones.
The 9×40 models have a sleek and familiar smartphone profile while the 9×53 models incorporate a barcode scanner.
Smartphones may be customized to offer specific features or functionality. Therefore, some features on your Versity smartphone may differ from those described here.
Contact your system administrator if you have any questions about your Versity smartphone.
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of this document but due to variations in deployments and ongoing software updates, you may encounter differences. Please contact your system administrator if you need further information.
Remember to read the Safety Instructions found online at [link] before using the handset.
The information in this document may change without notice.
Smartphone Features and Buttons
Messaging LED blinks to alert you that you have a notification, a voicemail or message.
Proximity sensor detects when the screen is blocked, such as when you are in a call, and turns off the screen unless you move the phone away from your face
Spectralink Versity 9×53 models incorporate a fully functional barcode scanner in the top of the smartphone.
The back of the phone contains a removable and rechargeable battery.
Volume buttons are on the left side.
Strategically placed programmable buttons may be locally configured to activate most desired features.
Indents along the sides support a belt clip that snaps into place.
Spectralink Applications
Applications—“apps” for short–are the main method smartphones use to deploy end user features. This Quick Start Guide explains the main features of the Spectralink Biz Phone app but there are many other apps you will probably use. See the Spectralink End User Guide for more information.
The Apps Launcher
Swipe up from the bottom of the phone to open the apps Launcher. Here you will find all the apps that have been downloaded onto your phone. Ask your system administrator for help if you need additional apps.
Working with Android
The Android operating system is used by the Spectralink Versity smartphones.
How to set Android options
Like other devices powered by Android, you may customize settings–such as ring
tones and volume level–through the Android Settings application which is
activated at the tap of its icon. You can find the Settings app on one of your
home screens or in the installed apps screen. Use a gesture to open the
installed apps screen.
Note that your system administrator may have deployed an EMM/MDM system
which might disable the possibility for end users to customize certain apps
and settings.
What is gesture navigation?
Gesture navigation replaces the
Home, Back, and Apps buttons you may be used
to seeing at the bottom of the screen. Instead, “gesture navigation” uses
swipes of various kinds to move the screen around. We’ll explain certain
gestures as you read through this document.
Spectralink 95/96-Series will default to 3-button navigation but can be set to gesture navigation when upgraded to Android 10.
In some facilities, the administrator controls which gesture navigation option is available.

A voicemail icon will display if a voicemail has been recorded (and if voicemail is activated in your facility). Missed calls will appear in the Recents list.
Set up multiple calls
- While in an active call, tap the Add call button. This places the first call on hold and opens the Add call dialer. You may need to unlock the phone first.

Transfer a call (Consultative)
In a consultative transfer, you are able to speak to either of the two other parties before making the transfer.

A conference call is when you and two other parties can converse at once. Your Versity supports a maximum number of three participants in a conference call—you and two others.

Notifications
Notification icons appear on the left side of the status bar. The mail,
calendar and voicemail icons are examples of notifications that indicate
application activity. The phone-with-a-check icon indicates that the
smartphone is registered to a call server with the Biz Phone app and you can
make calls.
Swipe down to open the notification drawer. Tap Clear all at the bottom to
clear the drawer.
When the smartphone is idle and the screen is black, a blinking LED lets you
know that you have a notification (if configured).
Quick Settings
The quick settings menu is opened from the home screen by a swipe down starting from the status bar at the top of the screen. A second swipe displays additional options. The quick access tiles that are displayed change depending on the smartphone model and what features are enabled. The screens below show some of the options. The High touch option on the third screen allows you to increase the sensitivity of the screen if you are wearing gloves.
Swipe down to open menu
Swipe down again to expand
Swipe right for additional options
Some or all quick access tiles may be disabled by the administrator, but you may be able to activate others by tapping the edit pencil.
Contact your administrator if you have questions about quick settings menu options.
Charging Options
Take a moment to learn how to charge your smartphone. Your system administrator will have provided you with charging options—a USB cable or a desktop or multi charging option.
It is critical to fully charge the Battery Pack before the first use of the smartphone. Doing this will maximize the Battery Pack’s storage capacity and lifespan.
The Battery Pack needs to be charged before first use and when the battery
life icon looks like it is getting low. The Battery Pack is fully charged when
the Battery life icon becomes solid.
Battery removal
Slide the battery latch on the back of the phone up towards the top of the phone to open the battery compartment. Once unlatched, the battery lifts out easily. If the latch seems tight, simply insert a small flathead screwdriver into the bottom of the latch and gently push towards the top of the phone. Do not force, pry, pull or twist.
Battery replacement
Align the tabs at the top of the battery with the slots in the battery compartment. Snap the battery pack into place by pressing on the bottom
Hot Swap
The Spectralink Hot Swap feature allows you to swap a low battery with a fresh one.
Have a fresh battery handy before starting the Hot Swap procedure
- Remove the battery from the phone.
- Replace the battery within 1 minute
During an active swap, minimum power is provided to allow for the phone to remain on.
Active use of the phone or anything that increases the draw of power during an active swap may, in certain situations, cause the phone to power off.
Desktop and battery chargers
The desktop charger allows you to charge one Versity smartphone while a spare battery is charging in the charger’s battery compartment. The phone remains fully operational while it is charging. Red and green LEDs indicate the charging state
- LED indication: Battery Pack Status
- Solid red: Charging
- Solid green: Fully charged
- Off: Indicated an empty slot or an error condition
