Frequently Asked Questions
Can you buy replacement blades without the rubber covers ?. The rubber comes off as little bits in food.
We are having the same problem with small bits of the rubber coming off into the food. I can’t find replacement beaters without the rubber so will have to buy a different mixer. That’s a big defect for an expensive hand mixer.
Does the cord swivel from side to side?
The BHM800SIL Handy Mix does feature a swivel-movement power cord.
Did Breville ever fix the issue with the rubber coming off the beaters into the food? I need to know this before buying!
No. I called them and after several months that sent replacement beaters, but rubber is coming off. My husband found rubber in his banana bread this morning. I need to buy a new mixer now because they do not make beaters without the rubber.
Does this have metal teeth to grip the beaters?
It does not appear so.
Does it include a regular beater, two whisk attachments, bread hook and a clear storage container?
Yes, it does. I love this beater. You can left up the beater, attachments…stored in a clear storage with one motion.
Can you use this to make fruit pattie or smoothie?
I don’t know what a fruit pattie is but I wouldn’t recommend it for a smoothie, especially if made from frozen fruit. Even if made with fresh fruit, I think you could damage it & it wouldn’t break down some fruits, much less make it smooth. It is a great mixer tho.
Are the internal gears’ metal?
The internal workings of the Breville® BHM800 Handy Mix™ are made of a combination of several materials including metal.
when I put the dough hook in, without the collar the display shows it and it turns red, every other time the display is blue, is this right?
Yes it is like that.
Do the silicon beaters allow you to use this in coated pots that say no metal utensils?
Yes, but I had a problem with the coating coming off. Scraped all coating off the beaters for fear of coating coming off in my food. As long as the coating is still secure on the beaters, it should be safe to use in coated pots.
Are those who have purchased this recently still having issues with the silicon coating coming off the beater?
I got mine in 2018. Beater silicone started peeling within weeks. After several months waiting Breville replaced the beaters. Within weeks, those started peeling. Today, my husband found a hunk of beater silicone in his banana bread, so need a new mixer since they don’t seem to make plain beaters. Damn.
Is this product nsf certified?
Sorry unable to locate in warranty booklet only states UL
Does this work better than a stand mixer for mashed potatoes?
I have not used a standard mixer but I can say that this works great. The variable speeds allow you to start slow until the potatoes are mashed up and then turn it up to high for creamy lump-free potatoes.
Could someone please tell me the width of the handle where your thumb would wrap around?
Although I don’t know the exact measurement of the handle, it was comfortable and functional for my average sized hand. I am guessing about 1″ wide. I loved this mixer, but it mysteriously stopped working 91 days after purchase – out of warranty.
How many speeds does this mixer have?
I believe its 9 speeds. The light shining in the bowl is nicer than I ever imagined. Have previously owned 2 Kitchenaid hand mixers that died. This is one of the nicest machines I have owned.
What is the wattage of this mixer?
Happy don’t know off hand but I made whipped cream in 1 minute. This thing is awesome!
How much does it weigh?
It’s pretty light but I don’t know weight. This mixer is perfect in every way except that it stopped working after 30 days (5 to 6 uses). I fiddled with the on/off button and got it to come on after about 50 presses of the button once. Sadly I had to get rid of this mixer and move on.
Does the rubber coating on the beaters hold up?
It did not hold up for us. Pieces fall into batter. Maybe because The beaters were washed in the dishwasher, but what is the purpose of a beater that cannot go in the dishwasher. We had to trim the flat part of the plastic to keep it from degrading into the batter.
Will this work in France if I get a converter?
Breville® does not recommend the use of converters with any of our products.
