Product Overview

NOTICE

  • Before you begin installation, read all instructions thoroughly.
  • Proper tools will improve the quality of installation and reduce the time required.
  • All steps must be followed to ensure the product will function properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Step 1

Locate your vehicle owner’s manual. If you do not have an owner’s manual, find a service manual specific to your vehicle make, model and year vehicle or download a version of the owner’s manual from the manufacturer’s website. In the index section of the owner’s manual / service manual, locate the towing section and find the section that refers to ‘recreational, flat towing or dingy towing’.

This section of the manual will inform you what fuses need to be removed and will serve as a reference to the fuse panel and location of the fuses to be removed.
NOTICE
You should become familiar with this section of your owner’s manual prior to towing.

Step 2

Remove the two fuses from the fuse panel which you will be replacing with your new custom bypass switch.
Some vehicles may come with a fuse tool for this process.
A needle nose pliers can also be used.
Remove the two fuses

Step 3

Notice the two wire colors, red and black. Be sure to keep both red wires in the same fuse location and both black wires in the same fuse location.
Press in on the pins where the fuse was removed until fully seated into the fuse block.
Install the required fuse for this location

Step 4

Test the switch by finding a suitable ground for your test light. Turn the vehicle on.
Using the probe on the test light, touch the connection on the switch.

This switch has two sides and is divided by a plastic divider molded into the switch.
This will also correspond with the letters on the tags. Two of the wires will have power with the switch off and all four wires will have power with the switch on.

Step 5

Find a convenient location in the lower plastic dash near the fuse box to mount the switch.
Be sure the switch will be within reach of the wiring from the panel before drilling a hole.

CAUTION
Check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface before drilling to avoid damage and/or personal injury.

Step 6

Carefully drill a 3/4″ diameter hole into the plastic panel.

Step 7

Remove the two wires from the switch one at a time.
Firmly hold on to the connector and pull. Do not pull on the wire.

Step 8

Remove the nut from the back of the switch and place the nut over the wires.
Re-attach the wires to the switch by sliding them back onto the terminal ends.
From the backside of the panel, thread the nut onto the switch.
Hand tighten to secure the switch in place.
