How to use

XPEDITION child safety seat is intended for children in 0+, I, II and III weight groups, that is from birth until they are 36 kg heavy (approximately up to the age of 12).
0+ weight group: 0 kg – 13 kg
The child safety seat must be fixed in the car in a rear-facing position with the use of ISOFIX fasteners and Top tether upper fixing belt. It is necessary to get familiar with the vehicle manufacturer’s operating manual. The child in the safety seat is secured with 5-point safety belts.
I weight group: 9 kg – 18 kg
The child safety seat can be fixed in the car in a forward- or rear-facing position. In case of rear- and forward-facing position, it is necessary to fix the safety seat with the use of ISOFIX fasteners and Top tether upper fixing belt. It is required to get familiar with the vehicle manufacturer’s operating manual. The child in the safety seat is secured with 5-point safety belts.
II weight group: 15 kg – 25 kg
III weight group: 22 kg – 36 kg
With regard to children in II and III weight group (from 15 to 36 kg), 5-point safety belts must be hidden (see point 6.0) and the child must be secured with the use of 3-point safety belts for adults with additional ISOFIX fasteners or just 3-point safety belts for adults, see point 5.3, 5.4. It is necessary to get familiar with the vehicle manufacturer’s operating manual.

Safety instructions

Please spend a few minutes on reading this operating manual in order to provide suitable safety to your child. Many easy-to-avoid injuries arise from reckless and wrong use of the child safety seat.

  • IT IS FORBIDDEN TO place the child safety seat on seats supplied with an active front airbag as it may be dangerous. It does not apply to side airbags.
  • If the child safety seat is fixed on the front seat, it is necessary to deactivate the airbag. It is advisable to mount the child safety seat on rear seats of the car only. Tips on suitability of the child safety seat for car seat can be found in the car user’s guide.
  • It is suitable for installation only when certified vehicles are equipped with three-point safety belts with a retractor which have received a certificate of approval in accordance with UN/ECG regulations no. 16 or other equivalent standards.
  • Remember to make sure all belts which fix the child safety seat are tight; 5-point safety belts which restrain the child are adapted to its body and are not twisted.
  • The child safety seat must be replaced if subjected to sudden loads during a road accident.
  • The child safety seat must not be modified in any way.
  • The child safety seat must be secured against direct sunlight; otherwise, hot pieces may burn your child.
  • Never leave the child in the seat unattended.
  • Make sure luggage and other items are properly secured, in particular the ones on the shelf under rear window as they may cause bodily injuries in case of accident.
  • The child safety seat must not be used without its upholstery.
  • Do not use replacement upholstery, other than recommended by the manufacturer, as it is an integral part of the child restraint system.
  • It is advisable to keep the child safety seat manual throughout its use.
  • Do not use other fixing points than described in the manual and marked on the child safety seat.
  • All hard elements and plastic parts of the child safety seat must be placed and installed in a way that they cannot get trapped by a sliding seat or vehicle door under normal conditions of use.
  • Regularly check the technical condition of 5-point safety belts, pay special attention to fixing points, seams and adjusting elements.
  • Stop using the child safety seat if its parts have been damaged or got loose.
  • In case of emergency, it is important that you quickly undo safety belts. This means that thebutton which releases 5-point safety belts is not fully secured. Make sure your child does not play with the buckle.
  • The back of the child safety seat backrest must rest against the car seat backrest. Make sure the car headrest does not lead to emergence of undesired space between the safety seat backrest and car seat backrest. Some car headrests are an obstacle when assembling the car safety seat and this is why they must be disassembled in the first place.
  • Make sure the belt is properly carried in guides. The buckle of the car seat belt must be lower than the belt guide in the child safety seat (the buckle must not touch the guide). In case of doubts, please contact the manufacturer of the child safety seat.
  • Always show the child how to behave and fasten seat belts. Also, an adult who is not secured with safety belts may pose a threat to the child.
  • Before every car travel, make sure the child safety seat has been properly attached.
  • The child safety seat must be secured also when it is not used. Unsecured child safety seat may cause passengers to get injured even in case of emergency braking

How to secure the child

Seat liner

The seat liner improves comfort and provides additional support to very small children. We recommend using a lower and upper part to serve as a child’s head cushion until the child is
5 kg heavy (fig. A.1a). When the child is 5 kg heavy, we advise you to detach the upper part (fig. A.1b). We suggest using an additional seat liner until the child is 12 kg heavy. When the child’s weight exceeds 12 kg, the seat liner must be removed (fig. A.1c).
Remember: The seat liner and protective cushions must be stored in a safe place for future use. NOTE! Use only this original liner – Kinderkraft Xpedition. This liner is intended for use only with Xpedition child safety seat.

Height of headrest and shoulder belts

For 0+ and 1 weight groups, when you use 5-point safety belts to set height of the headrest:

  • Simultaneously keep the button which regulates 5-point safety belts (9) and then slacken belts to freely adjust height of the headrest.

  • Keep the headrest adjustment handle (6) at the back of the headrest. If you want to lift the headrest, gently pull the handle upwards. Adjust the headrest to the desired height. When you have already adjusted height, release the adjusting handle, the headrest will be locked in a selected position.

  • Lower height of the headrest by pressing height adjustment handle (6). When you have already adjusted height, release the adjusting handle and the headrest will be locked in a selected position.
Place the child safety seat on the car seat. Put the child in the safety seat and check headrest height. To set a suitable height of shoulder belts, make sure the belt enters the safety seat backrest slightly above or at the level of child’s arms. Make sure the shoulder belts fit child’s arms well (fig. A.1.d).
NOTE! If necessary, re-regulate height of the headrest until you reach an optimal height of shoulder belts.
For II and III weight groups, when your 5-point safety belts are hidden and you use 3-point safety belts for adults, to set height of the headrest:

  • Grab the headrest adjustment handle (6) at the back of the headrest. If you wish to lift the headrest, gently pull the handle upwards. Adjust the headrest to the desired height. When you have already adjusted the height, release the adjusting handle and the headrest will be locked in a selected position.
NOTE! If necessary, slacken hidden 5-point safety belts to freely adjust height of the headrest.

  • Lower height of the headrest by pressing the height adjustment handle. When you have already adjusted height, release the adjusting handle and the headrest will be locked in a selected position.
NOTE! Remember to gently tighten hidden 5-point safety belts (8) with the adjusting strap until safety belts rest flat on the child safety seat backrest.
Place the child safety seat on the car seat. Put the child into the safety seat and check height of the headrest. The shoulder belt must go between child’s arm and neck. A correctly positioned headrest assures optimal arrangement of the shoulder part of the car belt and provides the child with protection and comfort (fig. A.1.3).
NOTE! If necessary, re-regulate height of the headrest until you reach an optimal height.

How to adapt backrest / regulate backrest inclination
  • You can change child safety seat inclination angle (fig. A.1.4) with a lever (11). Pull the lever and then slide the seat. Release the lever in a desired position. Gently move the seat until you can hear a clear „click” – the seat has been secured in a specific position.

NOTE! In 0+ and I groups (up to 18kg) with the child safety seat in a rear-facing position, you need to use position „1” – lying (fig. A.1.1).
In I group (9kg-18kg) and II and III groups (15kg – 36kg) with the child safety seat in a forward-facing position, you can use positions from „1” to „4”. (fig. A.1.2).

How to secure the child with 5-point safety belts
  • Slacken safety belts by pressing the button (9) and pulling them. Remember! Do not pull shoulder cushions.
  • Undo the buckle (4). Place 5-point safety belts on sides of the child safety seat (fig. B.1). Put the child in the child safety seat.
  • Adjust the headrest to height of the child (see point 4.1).
  • Join both buckle fasteners to engage them and insert in the buckle (4) until you can hear a „click”.
How to fasten 5-point safety belts
  • Pull shoulder straps to eliminate free space in the hip section. This way the belt will fit flat.
  • Tighten 5-point safety belts with the adjusting strap (10) until the belts are flat on the child’s body and near it. Make sure the shoulder belts properly fit the child’s arms. Correct tension is assured if you can place max. one finger (ca. 1 cm) between the belts and child’s body (fig. A.1.5) in the space between the shoulder belt and child’s chest.

NOTE! 5-point safety belts of the hip section must go as low as possible on child’s hips. Make sure the belts are not twisted.

Rotating mechanism

A.1.6, A.1.7).
    Rotating mechanism

  • Rotate the child safety seat with a seat rotation lever (12). This is how you can easily put the child in and take out of the safety seat. IMPORTANT! Remember about order of operations when putting the child in the safety seat. Rotate the safety seat, place the child in, secure it with 5-point safety belt, rotate so that the safety seat is in a rear-facing position. Make sure the rotation function has been correctly secured. To do so, check the color of the indicator by the seat rotation lever (12) – green color means the seat rotation function has been secured.
