How to Remove or Replace Old Style Tow Mirror Lower Glass

For OEM and Aftermarket Applications

  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Tools Needed: This job requires a few basic hand tools, including a Center Punch, Hammer, and a Phillips head screwdriver.

Caution:
Safety glasses and gloves should be worn while performing this procedure!

Step 1:
Using a center punch and a hammer, punch a hole into the center of the glass exposing the Phillips head screw.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-Mirror-

Step 2:
Carefully remove the Phillips head screw. Remove the lower glass and discard any broken glass safely and properly.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-

Step 3:
Install the plastic backing onto the mount located on the mirror. Align the tabs on the mirror to the slots on the backing located in 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock positions.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-Mirror-Lower-Glass-

Step 4:
Install the inner cup onto the mount.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-

Step 5:
Install the star washer onto the mount.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-

Step 6:
Align and tighten the Phillips head screw through the Star washer and into the mount.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-Mirror-Lower-Glass-

Disclaimer:
Do not over-tighten the screw. The amount will move to allow for adjustment of the Lower Glass when it is installed.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-

Step 7:
Peel the 4 pieces of tape off of the adhesive strips.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-

Disclaimer: The lower glass must be installed with the convex side up .BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-Mirror-Lower-Glass-

Convex Side
This side should be facing up when installing the lower glass onto the backing .BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-Mirror-Lower-Glass-

Concave Side
This side should be facing down when installing the lower glass onto the backing. The reflection of the concave side will show a zoomed-in image.

Step 8:
Line up the top edge of the lower glass to the top of the backing.BOOST-

Step 9:
Drop the glass into place.BOOST-AUTO-PARTS-Old-Style-GM-Tow-Mirror-Lower-

Step 10:
Make sure the glass is fully seated onto the backing.
