Frequently Asked Questions

Will this work to connect an external USB hard drive to a router which doesn't have a USB port?

If you want to connect your hard drive directly to a router, you need something called NAS (Network Attached Storage), it's some specialized hard drive and costs more. Otherwise, you'll have to connect the USB drive to a computer.

Does this adapter support PXE boot?

We use the USB31000SPTB to PXE boot with surface pro 3 machines all the time. There is a strong chance this will work also.

Will this product work as a 2nd network connection with a pc that already has a working nic card?

yes, it can. but be aware this product tends to fail. I bought one from Newegg and one from Amazon and both stopped working after 1 month. the USB still worked but it seemed the mic card inside both failed.

Will this work for a Microsoft surface pro6 to supply an internet connection via Ethernet?

US1GC30B will work on any computer with an available USB 3.0 Type C port. The Microsoft Surface Pro 6 is not equipped with a USB Type-C port, therefore you will need to use a USB Type-A to USB Type-C adapter to connect to the US1GC30B.

Does this work with pad?

No, the US1GC30B does not work in Android or iOS. It's supported in Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Server 2003, 2008 R2, 2012, 2016, 2019, macOS 10.7 to 10.14, and LTS versions of Linux Kernels 2.6.25 to 4.11.x.

Will this product work on linux or RHEL6.0 and windows7?

The product is based on hardware. I am not aware that any software is involved m, meaning that it should work with any operating system.

Does this device also power up the phone?

No, the US1GC30A is a USB to Ethernet adapter and will not be able to power a phone. The US1GC30A is currently supported for Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10, Windows Server 2003, 2008 R2, 2012, 2016, 2019, Mac OS X 10.7 to 10.15, Linux Kernel 2.6.25 to 4.11.x LTS versions only, and Chrome OS. Atha, StarTech.com Support.

Does this work with a usb hard drive?

Is this device compatible with Windows 11?

Works for me on both Win 10 and Win 11.

Will it work if i put it in a usb hub?

I have had mixed results. In the end I purchased a powered USB hub with ethernet connectivity from StarTech that I have been pleased with. Keep in mind that every device requires power. The straight USB to Ethernet shouldn't draw too much so by itself it might be OK.

Will this work if my pc does not have a network card?

Yes. I bought it because my network card died.

Will this work on my Lenovo x1 carbon 7th gen?

If the Lenovo x1 carbon 7th Gen has a USB 2 or 3 port it will work.
