STARTING THE QUEST
Introduction
Play as Rusty on a quest to find the Vanguard Relic. Have a friend join the adventure by selecting 2P Mode to play as Princess Alana.
Rusty
Upbeat and energetic, Rusty’s always on the lookout for another adventure (and treasure).
Princess Alana
Raised in a castle, she decided to see the world with Rusty.
HOW TO PLAY
Actions
Before you begin, familiarize yourself with each type of Action to help you
progress through the game (see Controls page for control configurations).
Moving: Use the Move controls to travel across the island.
Attacking: Use the Action button to swing your sword at enemies and
bushes.
Lifting and Throwing: Use your Interact button to lift objects (like
pots, bushes, and bombs) to throw them at enemies or reveal items hidden
inside.
Pushing: Moving towards some objects can allow you to push them in
different directions. Sometimes, they can reveal hidden items and entrances.
Interacting: Use the Interact button to read posts and interact with
objects (like secret chests) to obtain items and helpful hints
Swimming: Use the Move controls to swim in bodies of water.
Caution- you are unable to defend yourself against enemies while
swimming.
HUD Display
The HUD Diplay located on the top of your game screen shows information
that is helpful as you play the game.
Hearts: The heart icon represents your health. You will lose health from
enemy attacks. It can be replenished by obtaining Hearts or using Life
Potions. It’s game over if you run out, so be careful!
Item Slots: The items you equip from the Inventory Menu will appear
inside of the brackets. The quantity is displayed below the item.

IN-GAME MENUS
System Menu
The System Menu allows you to save your progress, change game setting
preferences, and quit the game to return to the Title Screen.
Save Your Game: To save your progress, choose the icon using the Confirm
button. Click on Empty File or overwrite your progress by selecting an already
saved file.
Change Game Settings: Adjust display and audio settings by selecting the
icon using the Confirm button.
Quit Game: To quit and return to the Title screen, select the ~ icon
using the Confirm button. Be sure to save your progress before quitting.
Inventory Menu
The Inventory Menu allows you to view equipped items, currency, and your
location on the map.
Equipped Item: To equip, use the Move and Confirm buttons to select the
desired item.
Currency: You can view your total collected coins in the bottom left of
the menu.
Map: See your location on the map located on the bottom right of the
menu. The bobbing arrow icon shows where you are. In dungeons, you’ll also be
able to see any collected dungeon items.

HINTS & TIPS
Help On The Quest
- There are several secret pathways through the dungeon by using bombs next to certain walls. Some of the areas are visibly cracked while others are completely hidden.
- Once set, bombs can be lifted, carried, and even thrown.
- If you die, you’ll be taken back to where you first entered the current area, but you won’t lose the items in your inventory.
- In two-player mode, if one player dies, it’s game over. Be careful!
- There’s an old hermit somewhere on the island that sells Life Potions. Life potions will revive you immediately if you die.
- There’s a secret room in the dungeon that never appears on the map.
- If you take damage, you’ll blink and be invincible for a short while. Use that time to your advantage!
- You can set the game aspect ratio to classic 4:3 or modern 16:9.
This setting cannot be changed in two-player mode while in-game.
