Connectivity
Connection & Operation
- To achieve 4K at 60Hz, make sure all your connections and the display feature HDMI 2.0 or above.
- Please utilize the original PD charger or you may see a slow charger warning on-screen. The dock is designed with 100w maximum power support, but Steam Deck takes 45w at most.
- If you want to play games over default resolution (1280*800), please turn to Game Setting > Properties > General > Game Resolution to achieve higher resolution.
- Lower the resolution or the picture quality in games to achieve higher frame rates when playing 3A games. If you still experience high latency with TV, please try to connect to monitor since TV usually has slower response time compared to monitor.
- In Gaming Mode, the Deck display is disabled. If mirroring or utilizing the display is necessary, launch the game title from Desktop Mode (accessed under the Steam > Power menu).
- Avoid using extra intermediates like HDMI to DisplayPort adapters or switches for more stable performance and less signal degradation.
Troubleshooting
1. Display problems like flickering, black screen
-
Make sure all connections are tight and the ports are free of dust accumulation.
-
Change an HDMI cable (version 2.0 or above).
Try another HDMI port of the display if possible. -
Please update the Steam OS to the latest version.
-
Connect the dock with the original charger for sufficient power.
-
Could be a Handshake Protocol issue. Try to connect the display with another USB-C source device and switch back to Steam Deck when it is normal or try with another HDMI display.
-
When playing 3A games, lowering the resolution and the picture quality would increase the frame rate.
2. Cannot achieve 4K
- Make sure the HDMI port and cable meet the standard HDMI 2.0 or above.
- Some games’ settings are limited to default resolution( 1280×800) in Gaming Mode, and thus cannot achieve 4K resolution. In this case, please turn to Games Setting > Properties > General > Game Resolution to achieve higher resolution.
3. Bluetooth device latency
- Using a wired ethernet connection (if applicable) through the dock can improve Bluetooth performance.
- When using WiFi, please try to connect to a 5GHz access point, as Bluetooth is transmitted at 2.4GHz. 2.4GHz WiFi can cause interference.
- Try to position the Steam Deck away from your wireless router or other 2.4GHz devices to avoid interference.
- Check that any high bandwidth USB3 accessories such as hard drives, webcams, or capture cards are as far away from the Steam Deck body as possible – similarly to 2.4GHz devices, 5 Gbps USB3 can interfere with bluetooth and WiFi radios.
- Make sure that Steam is set to not download game updates during gameplay.
4. Unstable USB-C connection
- Clean the ports with a dry pad to avoid connectivity loss because of the dust.
- Make sure the connection is tight.
- If the solutions above do not help, please contact us directly for further technical or warranty support.
5. Audio issues
Go to Desktop Mode, click on the speaker icon on the task bar, find the HDMI
slider, click on the 3-line menu and select the number of channels that you
want. This will then stay selected when switching back to Gaming Mode.
