PRECAUTIONS
R DANGER! NEVER short the terminals of the battery pack. Shorting may occur if
the terminals touch metal objects such as a key, so be careful when placing
the battery packs (or the transceiver) in bags, and so on. Carry them so that
shorting cannot occur with metal objects. Shorting may damage not only the
battery pack, but also the transceiver.
R DANGER! NEVER operate the transceiver near unshielded electrical blasting
caps or in an explosive atmosphere. This could cause an explosion and death.
R DANGER! NEVER use or charge Icom battery packs with non-Icom transceivers or
non-Icom chargers. Only Icom battery packs are tested and approved for use
with Icom transceivers or charged with Icom chargers. Using thirdparty or
counterfeit battery packs or chargers may cause smoke, fire, or cause the
battery to burst.
R WARNING RF EXPOSURE! This device emits Radio Frequency (RF) energy. Caution
should be observed when operating this device. If you have any questions
regarding RF exposure and safety standards, please refer to the Federal
Communications Commission Office of Engineering and Technology’s report on
Evaluating Compliance with FCC Guidelines for Human Radio Frequency
Electromagnetic Fields (OET Bulletin 65).
R WARNING! NEVER hold the transceiver so that the antenna is very close to, or
touching exposed parts of the body, especially the face or eyes, while
transmitting. The transceiver will perform best if the microphone is 5 to 10
cm (2 to 4 inches) away from the lips and the transceiver is vertical.
R WARNING! NEVER operate the transceiver with a headset or other audio
accessories at high volume levels. The continuous high volume operation may
cause a ringing in your ears. If you experience a ringing, reduce the volume
level or discontinue use.
R WARNING! NEVER operate the transceiver while driving a vehicle. Safe driving
requires your full attention– anything less could result in an accident.
CAUTION: DO NOT use harsh solvents such as Benzine or alcohol when cleaning,
because they will damage the transceiver’s surfaces.
CAUTION: DO NOT operate the transceiver unless the flexible antenna, battery
pack, and jack cover are securely attached. Confirm that the antenna and
battery pack are dry before attaching. Exposing the inside of the transceiver
to dust or water will result in serious damage to the transceiver. After
exposure to water, clean the battery contacts thoroughly with fresh water and
dry them completely to remove any water or salt residue.
DO NOT use or place the transceiver in direct sunlight or in areas with
temperatures below 10°C (14°F) or above +60°C (140°F).
DO NOT push [PTT] when you do not actually intend to transmit.
DO NOT modify the transceiver. The specifications may change and then the
transceiver may not comply with the requirements of required regulations. The
transceiver warranty does not cover any problems caused by unauthorized
modification.
BE CAREFUL! The transceiver will become hot when operating it continuously for
long periods of time.
BE CAREFUL! The transceiver meets IP67 requirements for waterproof
protection. However, once the transceiver has been dropped, waterproof
protection cannot be guaranteed because of possible damage to the
transceiver’s case or waterproof seal. Only when the BP-272 or BP-307,
flexible antenna or antenna cap and [ / ] cap are attached. The optional
BP-272 and BP-307 meet IP67 requirements.
D Battery caution
Misuse of Li-ion batteries may result in the following hazards: smoke, fire,
or the battery may rupture. Misuse can also cause damage to the battery or
degradation of battery performance.
R DANGER! NEVER strike or otherwise impact the battery. Do not use the battery
if it has been severely impacted or dropped, or if the battery has been
subjected to heavy pressure. Battery damage may not be visible on the outside
of the case. Even if the surface of the battery does not show cracks or any
other damage, the cells inside the battery may rupture or catch fire.
R DANGER! NEVER leave battery pack in places with temperatures above 60°C
(140°F). High temperature buildup in the battery, such as could occur near
fires or stoves, inside a sun heated car, or in direct sunlight may cause the
battery to rupture or catch fire. Excessive temperatures may also degrade
battery performance or shorten battery life.
R DANGER! NEVER expose the battery to rain, snow, seawater, or any other
liquids. Do not charge or use a wet battery. If the battery gets wet, be sure
to wipe it dry before using.
R DANGER! NEVER incinerate a used battery pack since internal battery gas may
cause it to rupture, or may cause an explosion.
R DANGER! NEVER solder the battery terminals, or NEVER modify the battery
pack. This may cause heat generation, and the battery may burst, emit smoke or
catch fire.
R DANGER! Use the battery only with the transceiver for which it is specified.
Never use a battery with any other equipment, or for any purpose that is not
specified in this instruction manual.
R DANGER! If fluid from inside the battery gets in your eyes, blindness can
result. Rinse your eyes with clean water, without rubbing them, and go to a
doctor immediately.
R WARNING! Immediately stop using the battery if it emits an abnormal odor,
heats up, or is discolored or deformed. If any of these conditions occur,
contact your Icom dealer or distributor.
R WARNING! Immediately wash, using clean water, any part of the body that
comes into contact with fluid from inside the battery.
R WARNING! NEVER put the battery in a microwave oven, high-pressure container,
or in an induction heating cooker. This could cause a fire, overheating, or
cause the battery to rupture.
CAUTION: Always use the battery within the specified temperature range, 10°C
~ +60°C (14°F ~ 140°F). Using the battery out of its specified temperature
range will reduce the battery’s performance and battery life.
CAUTION: Shorter battery life could occur if the battery is left fully charged, completely discharged, or in an excessive temperature environment (above 50°C (122°F)) for an extended period of time. If the battery must be left unused for a long time, it must be detached from the transceiver after discharging. You may use the battery until the battery indicator shows half capacity, then keep it safely in a cool and dry place at the following temperature range: 20°C ~ +50°C (4°F~+122°F) (within a month) 20°C ~ +35°C (4°F~+95°F)* (within three months) 20°C ~ +20°C (4°F~+68°F) (within a year)

BE SURE to replace the battery pack with a new one approximately five years after manufacturing, even if it still holds a charge. The inside battery material will become weak after a period of time, even with little use. The estimated number of times you can charge the battery is between 300 and 500. Even when the battery appears to be fully charged, the operating time of the transceiver may become short when: · Approximately five years have passed since the battery
was manufactured. · The battery has been repeatedly charged.
D Charging caution
R DANGER! NEVER charge the battery pack in areas with extremely high temperatures, such as near fires or stoves, inside a sun-heated vehicle, or in direct sunlight. In such environments, the safety/protection circuit in the battery will activate, causing the battery to stop charging.
R WARNING! NEVER charge the transceiver during a lightning storm. It may result in an electric shock, cause a fire or damage the transceiver. Always disconnect the power adapter before a storm.
R WARNING! NEVER insert the transceiver (battery attached to the transceiver) into the charger if it is wet or soiled. This could corrode the battery charger terminals or damage the charger. The charger is not waterproof.
R WARNING! DO NOT charge or leave the battery in the battery charger beyond the specified time for charging. If the battery is not completely charged by the specified time, stop charging and remove the battery from the battery charger. Continuing to charge the battery beyond the specified time limit may cause a fire, overheating, or the battery may rupture.

Icom recommends charging the battery at 25°C (77°F). The battery may heat up or rupture if charged out of the specified temperature range. Additionally, battery performance or battery life may be reduced.
Bluetooth® Interference
Bluetooth® uses the 2.4 GHz band. When using the transceiver in the 2.4 GHz band near a Bluetooth® device, interference may occur. This may cause a decrease in communication speed, and an unstable connection. In such case, use the transceiver away from the Bluetooth® device communication area, or stop using the Bluetooth® device.

designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a

This device was tested and approved with original accessories to ensure FCC

limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields by way
of health protection. This device has been tested and meets the ICNIRP
exposure guidelines and the European Standard EN 62209-2. SAR is measured with
this device at a separation of 0.5 cm to the body, while transmitting at the
highest certified output power level in all frequency bands of this device.
Carry this device at least 0.5 cm away from your body to ensure exposure
levels remain at or below the as-tested levels.

reminds you that in the European Union, all electrical and electronic
products, batteries, and accumulators (rechargeable batteries) must be taken
to designated collection locations at the end of their working life. Do not
dispose of these products as unsorted municipal waste. Dispose of them
according to the laws in your area.

RECOMMENDATION
CLEAN THE TRANSCEIVER THOROUGHLY IN A BOWL OF FRESH WATER after exposure to
saltwater, and dry it before operating. Otherwise, the transceiver’s keys,
switches, and controllers may become unusable, due to salt crystallization,
and/or the charging terminals of the battery pack may corrode.
NOTE: If the transceiver’s waterproof protection appears defective, carefully
clean it with a soft, damp (fresh water) cloth, then dry it before operating.
The transceiver may lose its waterproof protection if the case, jack cap, or
connector cover is cracked or broken, or the transceiver has been dropped.
Contact your Icom distributor or your dealer for advice.

R DANGER! NE JAMAIS court-circuiter les bornes (ou les bornes de charge) du
pack batterie. Par ailleurs, le courant peut circuler dans les objets
métalliques situés à proximité, comme les clés. Il convient donc de prendre

R DANGER! N’utilisez JAMAIS et ne rechargez JAMAIS des blocs-batteries Icom
avec des émetteurs-récepteurs non-Icom ou des chargeurs non-Icom. Seuls les
blocsbatteries Icom sont testés et homologués pour être utilisés avec des
émetteurs-récepteurs Icom ou pour être rechargés avec des chargeurs Icom.
L’utilisation de blocsbatteries ou de chargeurs tiers ou de contrefaçon peut
être à l’origine de fumées, d’incendie ou peut faire éclater la batterie.
R DANGER! NE JAMAIS tenir le radio avec l’antenne placée à proximité immédiate

sont solidement fixés au radio et que l’antenne et le pack batterie sont secs
avant de les mettre en place. Tout contact de l’intérieur du radio avec de
l’eau endommagera gravement le radio. Après tout contact avec de l’eau,
nettoyez soigneusement les contacts de la batterie à l’eau courante et
séchezles complètement afin d’éliminer l’eau ou les dépôts de sel.
ATTENTION: NE PAS utiliser de solvants agressifs tels que l’essence ou
l’alcool pour nettoyer le radio, en raison des risques d’endommager la surface
du radio.
NE PAS utiliser le radio à proximité de détonateurs électriques non blindés ou
dans une atmosphère explosive.
NE PAS utiliser ou placer le radio en plein soleil ou dans des zones dans
lesquelles les températures sont inférieures à 10°C (14°F) ou supérieures à
+60°C (140°F).
NE PAS actionner le bouton PTT tant que vous n’êtes pas prêt à transmettre.
NE PAS modifier le radio. La garantie du terminal ne couvre pas les problèmes
résultant d’une modification non autorisée.
MISE EN GARDE ! ATTENTION! Le radio est conforme aux exigences IP67 en
matière d’étanchéité. Cependant, une fois que l’émetteur-récepteur est tombé,
ou que le joint d’étanchéité est fissuré ou endommagé, la protection étanche
ne peut pas être garantie en raison des dommages possibles au boitier ou au
joint d’étanchéité. Uniquement lorsque le BP-272 ou BP-307 (en option),
l’antenne flexible ou le capuchon d’antenne et le capuchon [ / ] est en place.
Le BP-272 et BP-307 respectent les exigences IP67. Les HM-186LS, HM-153LS et
HM166LS optionnels respectent les exigences IPX4 relatives à la résistance aux
éclaboussures. Lorsqu’ils sont en place, le radio est conforme IPX4.
D Mise en garde concernant la batterie
Un mauvais usage des batteries au Lithium ion peut avoir les conséquences
suivantes: fumée, incendie ou explosion de la batterie. Il peut également
causer des dommages a une autre batterie ou dégrader les performances de la
batterie.
R DANGER! NE PAS frapper la batterie ou la soumettre à des impacts. N’utilisez
pas la batterie si elle a reçu des impacts ou a été jetée ou si elle a subi
une forte pression. Les dommages subis par une batterie peuvent ne pas être
visibles de l’extérieur du boîtier. Même si la surface de la batterie ne
semble pas fissurée ou endommagée, les cellules à l’intérieur de la batterie
peuvent se rompre ou prendre feu.
R DANGER! NE JAMAIS utiliser ou laisser le pack batterie dans des lieux dans
lesquels les températures sont supérieures à 60°C (140°F). La montée en
température de la batterie, comme cela peut survenir à proximité de flammes ou
de poêles, à l’intérieur d’un véhicule exposé au soleil, ou en plein soleil
peut détruire ou enflammer la batterie. Les températures excessives peuvent
également dégrader les performances de la batterie ou réduire leur longévité.
R DANGER! NE PAS exposer batterie à la pluie, à la neige, à l’eau de mer ou à
tout autre liquide. Ne pas charger ou utiliser une batterie humide. Si une
batterie est humide, veillez à l’essuyer complètement avant de l’utiliser.
R DANGER! NE JAMAIS incinérer un pack batterie usagé, en raison des risques de
détérioration ou d’explosion provoqués par les gaz internes de la batterie.
R DANGER! NE JAMAIS souder les bornes de la batterie et NE JAMAIS modifier la
pack batterie. Ceci peut provoquer une surchauffe de la batterie, qui risque
alors d’éclater, de fumer ou de prendre feu.
R DANGER! N’utiliser la batterie qu’avec le radio pour lequel il est spécifié.
Ne jamais utiliser une batterie avec tout autre équipement ou pour une autre
destination que celle spécifiée dans le présent manuel d’utilisation.
R DANGER! Dans le cas où du liquide provenant de l’intérieur de la batterie
entre dans vos yeux, vous risquez la cécité. Rincez abondamment les yeux à
l’eau courante, sans les frotter et consultez immédiatement un médecin.
R AVERTISSEMENT! Cessez immédiatement d’utiliser la batterie si elle dégage
une odeur anormale, si elle surchauffe, est décolorée ou déformée. Si l’une de
ces situations se produit, contactez votre revendeur ou distributeur Icom.
R AVERTISSEMENT! Lavez immédiatement à l’eau courante toute partie du corps
qui est entrée en contact avec le liquide provenant de l’intérieur de la
batterie.
R AVERTISSEMENT! NE JAMAIS mettre la batterie dans un four à micro-ondes, un
récipient haute-pression ou dans un four à induction. Ceci peut provoquer un
incendie, une surchauffe ou détériorer la batterie.
MISE EN GARDE: Toujours utiliser la batterie dans la plage de température
spécifiée, comprise entre 10°C ~ +60°C (14°F ~ 140°F). L’utilisation de la
batterie hors de la plage de température indiquée, a pour effet d’en altérer
les performances et d’en réduire la durée de vie.
MISE EN GARDE: La longévité de la batterie peut être écourtée si elle est
laissée de manière prolongée à pleine charge, entièrement déchargée, ou dans
un environnement à température excessive (supérieure à 50°C (122°F)). Si la
batterie ne doit pas être utilisée pendant une assez longue période, elle doit
être enlevée de la VHF une fois déchargée. Vous pouvez utiliser la batterie
jusqu’à ce que le témoin de la batterie indique qu’elle est à la moitié de sa
capacité. Placez-la ensuite dans un endroit frais et sec dans la plage de
température ci-après : 20°C ~ +50°C (4°F ~ +122°F) (période inférieure à un
mois) 20°C ~ +35°C (4°F ~ +95°F) (période inférieure à trois mois) 20°C ~
+20°C (4°F ~ +68°F) (période inférieure à une année) BP-307 : 20°C ~ +40°C
(4°F ~ +104°F)
VEILLEZ à remplacer la batterie par une nouvelle après cinq ans, même si elle
maintient la charge. Les matériaux présents à l’intérieur de la batterie se
détériorent après un certain temps, même en cas d’utilisation réduite. Le
nombre de fois où il est possible de charger la batterie est estimé entre 300
et 500 fois en fonction de l’utilisation. Même lorsque la batterie indique
qu’elle est complètement chargée, le temps d’utilisation du poste peut être

D Mise en garde concernant la recharge

batterie au-delà du temps spécifié, vous pouvez provoquer un incendie, une
surchauffe ou détériorer la batterie.
R AVERTISSEMENT! NE JAMAIS mettre en place le radio (batterie fixée au radio)
dans le chargeur s’il est humide ou encrassé. Ceci peut corroder les bornes du
chargeur de la batterie ou endommager le chargeur. Le chargeur n’est pas
étanche.
PRÉCAUTIONS (suite)
R AVERTISSEMENT! NE JAMAIS insérer un émetteurrécepteur humide ou poussiéreux
(avec sa batterie) dans le chargeur. Ceci peut corroder les bornes du chargeur
de la batterie ou endommager le chargeur. Le chargeur n’est pas étanche.

Icom recommande une température de charge de 25°C (77°F). Sinon, le temps de
charge sera plus long, mais la batterie ne sera pas atteindre une charge
complète. La charge s’arrête automatiquement lorsque la température est hors
de la plage spécifiée.
Interférences Bluetooth®
Bluetooth® utilise la bande de 2,4 GHz. Si vous utilisez l’émetteurs-
récepteurs dans la bande de 2,4 GHz à proximité d’un appareil Bluetooth®, ceci
peut provoquer des interférences. Ceci peut réduire le débit de communication
et rendre la connexion instable. Dans ce cas, utilisez l’émetteurs-récepteurs
à distance suffisante de la zone de communication de l’appareil Bluetooth® ou
cessez d’utiliser l’appareil Bluetooth®.

[Address] key · Selects a preset address. Push []/[] to select
“All Call,” “Group/Talkgroup Call,” “Individual Call,” or “Phone Call.”
[Call history] key · Selects the call history. Push []/[] to select the
“TX log,” “RX log,” “TX MSG log,” “RX MSG log,” “TX TEL log” or “RX TEL log.”
· Hold down until “Emergency” is displayed to send an emergency call,
depending on a preset.
[FUNC] key · Selects the message, Presence or Talk group to send.
[CLR/Lock] key · Push to return to the previous screen from a
function screen. · Hold down for 1 second to turn the Key Lock
function ON or OFF. [PTT] switch and [PWR/VOL] dial can be used even
while the Key Lock function is ON.

: Signal strength The signal strength is represented by 3 bars. In the 3G
mode, the received signal strength is indicated by the icon. In the LTE mode,
the icon is displayed. When the transceiver location is out of the service
area, or cannot receive the control signal, the (outof-area) icon blinks. If
the transceiver has not been registered, is displayed.
: Call types Shows the call type. Blinks when a call or message is received. :
All/Group Call : Talkgroup Call : Individual Call : Phone Call * May be
usable, depending on a presetting.
: Recording Displayed when the Recording mode is ON.
: Bluetooth Displayed when the transceiver is connected to Bluetooth device.
: Pocket beep · Displayed when the Pocket Beep function is ON. · Blinks when a
call is received. This icon blinks until the
transceiver return to the standby mode after a received signal disappears.

When the battery charge is almost exhausted, the battery status indicator ” ”

warning beeps sound every 30 seconds. Charge the

D Receiving and Transmitting
Receiving: When a Call is received, the [TX/RX] indicator lights green. Rotate
[DIAL] to adjust the audio output level to a comfortable listening level.
Transmitting: While holding down [PTT], speak at your normal voice level. ·
The [TX/RX] indicator lights red while [PTT] is pushed.
Talk while receiving a call: While receiving a call, push [PTT] to talk in the
full duplex mode like a telephone call. · In the Full Duplex mode, the
[TX/RX] indicator lights
orange. Depending on a preset. Ask your dealer for details.
IMPORTANT: To maximize the readability of your signal: 1. After pushing [PTT],
pause briefly before you start
speaking. 2. Hold the microphone 5 ~ 10 cm (2 ~ 4 inches) from
your mouth, then speak at your normal voice level.
BATTERY CHARGING
NOTE: Operating time may be shorter, depending on the operating condition such
as the roaming frequency. Frequently roaming makes the operating time shorter.

ATTACHING THE BATTERY PACK
