iCOM CS-F7500 Mobile Radio

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS carefully and completely before using this product.

System requirements

The following system is required to use the CS-F7500.

Operating System (OS)
  • Microsoft® Windows® 7 (32/64bit)

  • Microsoft® Windows® 8.1 (32/64bit)*
    ***** Except for Microsoft® Windows® RT.

  • Microsoft® Windows® 10

Others
  • Programming cable and a USB port

  • OPC-2338 (for the Portable type transceivers, Option) or

  • OPC-2363 (for the Mobile type transceivers, Option)A USB 1.1 or 2.0 port

  • USB cable (A – micro B type) and a USB port
    – USB cable (A – micro B type) (User supplied)
    To use the USB cable, you must install a USB driver. The driver is supplied on the CD, and the installation guide can be downloaded from the Icom extranet.
    – A USB 1.1 or 2.0 port

  • microSD card and a memory card reader or memory card slot
    – microSD card (User supplied)
    – Card drive or Memory card slot to read the microSD card, if needed. (User supplied)

  • PC with Bluetooth®

USB driver installation

To use a USB cable (A – micro B type, User supplied), you must install a USB driver. The driver is supplied on the CD, and the installation guide can be downloaded from the Icom extranet. Read the guide carefully before installing the driver.

NOTE: The driver is not supported by the Windows® automatic recognition system.

Usable microSD card

The microSD or microSDHC card is not supplied by Icom. User supplied

You can use a microSDHC of up to 32 GB. Icom has checked the compatibility with the following microSDHC cards.

The above list does not guarantee the card’s performance.

Through the rest of this document, a microSDHC card is simply called microSD card or the card.

How to set up

There are four ways to set up the transceivers using the CS-F7500.

  1. Setting up from a PC using an optional programming cable (pp. 3 ~ 4)
  2. Setting up from a PC using a USB cable (pp. 5 ~ 6)
  3. Setting up from a PC using a microSD card (pp. 7 ~ 9)
  4. Setting up from a PC with Bluetooth (pp. 10 ~ 12)

 You can set up the transceiver using the data from another transceiver and the optional OPC-1870 or OPC-2362 zone copy cable. See the Operating Guide for details.

Software installation

When installing the software, confirm Windows has completed its startup, and then log in as the administrator. These instructions are based on using CS-F7500 on Microsoft® Windows® 7 as an example.

  1. Confirm no other applications are running.

  2. Insert the CD into a CD drive.

  3. Double-click “setup.exe” on the CD.
    If “User Account Control” is displayed, click to continue.

  4.  “Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for CS-F7500” is displayed. Click >.

  5. “User Information” is displayed.
    Enter your name, your company name (option), and the product ID number, as described below. Click >.
    • Product ID number: 385211-(6 digit serial number) The serial number is on the CD. If you downloaded the software, enter the ID provided by your distributor.

  6. Choose Destination Location” is displayed. Click >.
    • If desired, click to select another destination folder before clicking >.

  7. After the installation has completed, “InstallShield Wizard Complete” is displayed. Click .

  8. Eject the CD.

  9. A `CS-F7500′ group is created on the menu, and a shortcut icon is created on the desktop.
    NOTE: You can uninstall the software using the “Uninstall a program” in the Windows Control Panel.

Setting up from a PC using an optional programming cable

To setup from a PC using an optional OPC-2338 or OPC-2363 cable, follow the steps below.
**Step 1** Install the USB driver.
**Step 2** Connect the transceiver and PC using the cable.
**Step 3** Setup. (p. 4)

Before connecting the cables to the PC

To use the OPC-2338 or OPC-2363 cable, you must first install a USB driver. The latest USB driver and installation guide can be downloaded from the Icom website. (http://www.icom.co.jp/world/support/download/firm/). Read the guide carefully before installing the driver.

Connecting the cables

Entering information
  • To prevent data loss, read all the transceiver’s data before entering or editing parameters using the software, even if the transceiver is factory fresh. Click , or in the top menu of the software, and then select “Read TR” to start reading.

  • While reading or writing the entered data, NEVER turn OFF the transceiver or the PC, and NEVER disconnect the cables. Otherwise, the data could be lost or corrupted.

  • TIP: Refer to the softwares Help file for assistance with the functions or settings. To open the Help file, click in the top menu of the software and select “Contents,” or simply push the [F1] key on the PCs keyboard.Before reading or entering data, make a backup file on your PC. A backup file enables you to easily restore if the data in the transceiver is accidentally deleted.
    NOTE: When the transceivers model type does not match the softwares type, a warning dialog is displayed before writing to the transceiver, even though, entering and editing can be done.| NOTE: When the transceiverʼs model type does not match the softwareʼs type, a warning dialog is displayed before writing to the transceiver, even though, entering and editing can be done

Setting up

To setup using the cable, follow the procedure below.
Procedure :

  1. Click , or select “Read TR” in the menu to start reading the data from the transceiver.
    TIP: If you have an ICF file to write to the transceiver, click , or select “Open… Ctrl+O” in the menu, and then select the file.

  2. Enter the settings for each function, using the CS-F7500. LSee the Help file of the CS-F7500 for assistance.

  3. Click , or select “Write TR” in the menu to write the entered data into your transceiver. · The entered data will overwrite the current data.

  4. After the writing is completed, the transceiver automatically restarts. LThe user can operate the transceiver with the loaded data.
    TIP: When the following item is set to other than “OFF,” the transceiver does not enter the Programming mode, and the setup cannot be done. In that case, you can forcibly make the transceiver enter the Programming mode by doing the following steps.

    • Common > External I/O > Option >
      Multi-Connector/D-Sub 25pin > Mode

    • Common > External I/O > Option > USB Setting >
      Serial Mode

    • Supplemental Function > Bluetooth Setting >
      Data Device > Serial Mode

  5. Turn OFF the transceiver.

  6. While holding down [P1], turn ON the transceiver. Continue holding down [P1] for about 3 seconds.

Setting up from a PC using a USB cable

To setup from a PC using a USB cable (A – micro B type), follow the steps below.
**Step 1** Install the USB driver.
**Step 2** Connect the transceiver and PC using the cable.
**Step 3** Setup. (p. 6)

NOTE: Before reading or writing programming data, set the “USB Mode Select” item to “Data Transfer.” (Menu > Function > USB Mode Select)

  1. Click    , or select “Read ← TR” in the menu to start reading the data from the transceiver.
    TIP: If you have an ICF file to write to the transceiver, click  , or select “Open… Ctrl+O” in the menu, then select the file.

  2. Enter the settings for each function, using the CS-F7500.
    See the Help file of the CS-F7500 for assistance.

  3. Click  , or select “Write TR” in the menu to write the entered data into your transceiver. · The entered data will overwrite the current data.
    TIP: When the following item is set to other than “OFF,” the transceiver does not enter the Programming mode, and the setup cannot be done. In that case, you can forcibly make the transceiver enter the Programming mode by doing the following steps.

    • Common > External I/O > Option > Multi-Connector/D-Sub 25pin > Mode.
    • Common > External I/O > Option > USB Setting > Serial Mode
    • Supplemental Function > Bluetooth Setting > Data Device > Serial Mode
  4. Turn OFF the transceiver.

  5. While holding down [P1], turn ON the transceiver. Continue holding down [P1] for about 3 seconds..After the writing is completed, the transceiver automatically restarts.The user can operate the transceiver with the loaded data.

Setting up from a PC using a microSD card

To setup from a PC using a microSD card, follow the steps below.

**Step 1** Save the entered data in a data file (ICF file) using the CS-F7500. (p. 7)
**Step 2** Copy the ICF file onto the microSD card on your PC. (p. 8)
**Step 3** Insert the card that includes the ICF file into the slot of the transceiver. (p. 9)
**Step 4** Load. (p. 9)

NOTE:

  • Before reading or writing the entered data, set the “USB Mode Select” item to “Data Transfer.” (Menu > Function > USB Mode Select)
  • If you use a brand new microSD card, first format the card. See section 9 of the transceiver’s Operating Guide for details.

Entering information
  • To prevent data loss, copy the settings data (ICF file) on the card to the PC. After copying, read thedata into the programming software, before editingor entering new software parameters.
  • Before loading, make a backup file on your PC.A backup file enables you to easily restore if the data in the microSD card is accidentally deleted.
  • Be sure to turn OFF the transceiver before inserting or removing the microSD card.
  • While loading, NEVER remove the microSD card, NEVER turn OFF the transceiver or the PC, and NEVER disconnect the DC power cable or battery pack. Otherwise, the data could be lost or corrupted.
Setting up

To setup using the microSD card, follow the procedure below.

Procedure:

  1. Enter the settings for each item, using the CS-F7500.
    See the Help file of the CS-F7500 for assistance.

  2. Click , or select “Save Ctrl+S” or “Save As…” in the menu to save the entered data in a data file (ICF file).

  3. Insert the microSD card into the card drive or a memory card reader on your PC, as shown below. User supplied.

  4. Copy the ICF file into the [ICF] folder on the microSD card.
    [IC-F7500_IC-F7510] > [Setting] > [ICF]

  5. Remove the card from the card drive or a memory card reader on your PC.

  6. Insert the card that includes the ICF file into the slot of the transceiver as shown below. NOTE: Be sure to turn OFF the transceiver before inserting the card. z Portable types

  7. Turn ON the transceiver.

  8. Push [Menu] on the transceiver to display the “Menu” screen.

  9. Push [Left] or [Right] to select “SD card,” then push [OK].

  10. Push [Up] or [Down] to select “Load Setting <-SD,” then push [OK].

  11. “Update Ready Execute?” is displayed.

  12. Push [Left] or [Right] to select , then push [OK] to start to load the ICF file.
    • The contents of the ICF fi le will overwrite the current data. CAUTION: While loading, DO NOT remove the microSD card, DO NOT turn OFF the transceiver, and DO NOT disconnect the DC power cable or battery pack. Otherwise, the data could be lost or corrupted.

  13. After loading, the transceiver automatically restarts.
    The user can operate the transceiver with the loaded data.

Setting up from a PC with Bluetooth®

To setup from a PC with Bluetooth, follow the steps below.
**Step 1** Pairing with a PC with Bluetooth.

Pairing with a PC with Bluetooth®

Step 1: Entering the Pairing mode             (PC)

See the PC’s instruction manual for details.

Step 2: Searching for the PC                 (Transceiver)

  1. Turn ON the transceiver.

  2. Push [Menu] to display the “Menu” screen.

  3. Push [Left] or [Right] to select “Bluetooth,” then push [OK]..

  4. Push [Up] or [Down] to select “Bluetooth,” then push [OK].

  5. Push [Up] or [Down] to select “ON,” then push [OK]. · The Bluetooth function is turned ON.

  6. Push [Up] or [Down] to select “BT Device List,” then push [OK].

  7. Push [Up] or [Down] to select “Find Device,” then  push [OK].
    • If the transceiver has been connected to the PC before, the PC name may be displayed.

  8. Push [Up] or [Down] to select “Data Device,” then push [OK] to start searching.

  9. Displays the usable devices.

Step 3: Connecting to the PC            (Transceiver)

Push [Up] or [Down] to select the PC to connect, then push [OK]. Connects to the PC.

Step 4: Setting the Bluetooth Serial Port      (PC)

When the Serial Port Access Authorization dialog such as below is displayed on the PC screen, accept it.
The content may differ, depending on the PC.
See the PC’s instruction manual for details.

Step 5: Connection                  (Transceiver)

  1. After the transceiver and the PC connection has succeeded, “✔” is displayed beside the device icon, while transferring the data.

  2. Push [Back] several times until you return to the standby screen.
    • While transferring the data, “ ” is displayed instead of  “ “.
