Hints
- This dehydrator has 5 variably stackable support grids. The air openings in the lid allow air to circulate. The warm air flows from the base through each of the five attachments, removing the moisture from the food.
- Distribute the food to be dried evenly on the grids. It must not be on top of each other. Only occupy the attachments up to 90% to ensure adequate air circulation.
- The specified drying times can deviate as they depend on the humidity of the food to be dried and the humidity of the environment. The room should be dust-free, warm and dry. Good ventilation of the room is also important.
- Your own, dried fruit and vegetables look different than those in supermarkets or health food stores because you don’t use any preservatives or colorings, only natural additives.
- Taking notes on the moisture and weight of the food before and after the dehydration can help you refine your dehydration technique for the future.
Storage of dehydrated foods
-
Cool the food to be dried completely before storing it, as condensation in the containers will cause mold to form.
-
Always do a drying test first. Always switch off the device before removing samples.
-
Dehydrated fruit should be soft and pliable when properly dehydrated.
Dehydrated vegetables should be firm with no soft spots. -
Finished dried meat is leathery.
-
Finished dried fish is dry and pliable.
-
The next day after storage, check the contents for possible moisture. If the food still contains moisture, dry it again.
It is best to use dry glass containers with a metal cap. Store the dried food in a cool, dry and as dark place as possible. The ideal temperature is between 5 and 20°C.
