SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Read these instructions carefully before use, and save them for future
reference.
WARNING:
Read all the safety instructions and other instructions. Failure to follow all
the instructions and safety instructions can result in the risk of electric
shock, fire and/or serious personal injury. The term “power tool” in the
instructions below refers to mains-powered (corded) or battery-powered
(cordless) power tools.
Work area
- Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Dark and cluttered work areas increase the risk of accidents and injuries. When not in use, store the power tool in a dry place out of the reach of children.
- Do not use power tools in explosive environments, such as in the vicinity of flammable liquids, gas or dust. Power tools produce sparks that can ignite dust and fumes.
- Keep onlookers, especially children, and pets at a safe distance when using power tools. You can easily lose control of the power tool if you are distracted. Never leave power tools unattended when they are running.
Electrical safety
- The plug on the power tool must match the PowerPoint. Never modify the plug in any way. Never use an adapter with earthed power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets reduce the risk of electric shock. Damaged or tangled power cords increase the risk of electric shock. A damaged cord or plug must be replaced by an authorized service centre or qualified person to ensure safe use.
- Avoid body contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or moisture. Do not touch the power tool, plug or power cord with wet hands or other wet parts of your body. Never immerse the power tool, cord or plug in water or any other liquid.
- Be careful with the power cord. Never use the power cord to carry or pull the tool, or to pull out the plug from the mains socket. Keep the power cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts.
- Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the rated voltage on the type plate.
- Do not use the power tool if the cord or plug are damaged, or if the tool has been subjected to knock and blows, or is damaged.
- Only use extension cords that comply with the requirements of the power tool for power consumption and earthing etc. (see type plate). If the power tool is used outdoors, only use an extension cord approved for outdoor use. If an extension cord is used on a reel, pull out the full length of cord.
- If it is absolutely necessary to use the power tool in damp conditions, use a residual current device with a tripping current of max 30 mA to minimize the risk of electric shock.
- Hold the power tool by the insulated grips when working where the surface or cutting edges can come into contact with concealed electrical cables or the power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the power tool to also become live – the risk of electric shock.
Personal safety
- Stay alert. Pay attention to what you are doing, and use your common sense when working with power tools. Never use power tools if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention or carelessness can result in serious personal injury. Avoid eating, drinking or smoking when working with power tools.
- Use personal safety equipment. Wear safety glasses or a face mask. Depending on the type of tool and how it is used, safety equipment such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, safety helmets and ear protection reduce the risk of personal injury.
- Avoid accidental starting. Check that the power switch is switched off before plugging in the plug. Carrying a power tool with your finger on the switch or connecting a tool to the mains supply when the switch is in the ON position increases the risk of accidents and injuries.
- Remove adjuster keys/spanners before switching on the power tool. Spanners or the like that are left in a rotating part of the power tool can cause personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance. This ensures better control over the power tool in unexpected situations.
- Wear suitable clothing. Do not wear loose-fitting clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothing, jewellery and long hair can get caught in moving parts.
- If dust extraction and dust collection equipment is available, this should be connected and used correctly. The use of such devices can reduce the risk of dust-related problems.
- Secure the workpiece on a stable surface with clamps, or the like.
- The product is not intended to be used by persons (children or adults) with any form of functional disorders, or by persons who do not have sufficient experience or knowledge on how to use it, unless they have received instructions concerning the use of the product from someone who is responsible for their safety. Keep children under supervision to make sure they do not play with the product.
Use and maintenance
- Switch off the product and pull out the plug before checking, cleaning, maintenance or adjustments, and before changing accessories or putting the tool away. Do not use the power tool if it is damaged.
- Switch off the power tool immediately with the power switch and pull out the plug in the event of any abnormal noise, smell, smoke or other sign of a problem.
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for the planned work. The tool does the job better and more safely when used at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the power tool if it cannot be switched on and off with the power switch. Power tools that cannot be controlled with the power switch are dangerous and must be repaired.
- Store power tools out of the reach of children and other unauthorized persons when not in use. Power tools are dangerous if used by inexperienced persons. Store power tools in a dry and safe place.
- Keep power tools properly maintained. Check that moving parts are correctly adjusted and do not jam, and that no parts are incorrectly fitted or damaged. Check for other factors that could affect functionality. If a power tool is damaged it must be repaired before it is used again. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to jam and are easier to control. Only use parts and accessories recommended by the manufacturer, otherwise, there is a risk of personal injury and/or material damage.
- Use the power tool, accessories and bits etc., in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the actual working conditions and the work that is to be done. It can be dangerous to use power tools for purposes other than those they are intended to be used for.
Service
- Do not dismantle the product or attempt to modify, or repair it.
- Any repairs must be carried out by qualified personnel to avoid putting safety at risk.
- Power tools must only be serviced by qualified personnel using identical spare parts. This will ensure that the power tool remains safe to use.
Special safety instructions
- Remove all the packaging material from the product before use.
- Hold the power tool by the insulated grips when working in areas where the tool could come into contact with concealed electrical cables or its own power cord. Contact with a live cable will cause the metal parts on the power tool to also become live – risk of electric shock.
- Fire risk as a result of sparks! Hot metal particles (sparks) are produced when grinding metal, which can ignite flammable material. Keep onlookers, especially children, and also pets at a safe distance from sanding sparks, and keep flammable materials away from the workplace and its surroundings.
- During prolonged work with wood, or if the product is used for materials that release toxic dust, the product must be connected to a suitable dust extraction device.
- Ensure good ventilation when working with plastic, paint and varnish, etc.
- The product is only intended for dry sanding of large sections of wood, plastic, metal and plaster, and painted surfaces. The product must only be used on dry surfaces.
- Do not work with material that contains asbestos. Asbestos is carcinogenic.
- Power tools that are not handled correctly can cause hand/arm vibration syndrome.
- Keep power tools and accessories in good condition to reduce the risk of vibration-related problems.
- Use vibration damping handles, gloves etc. if power tools are to be used often and/or for a long time.
- Do not work in temperatures less than 10°C. Plan the work so that exposure to heavy vibrations is spread over a longer period.
Harmful dust
- Sanding dust from some materials, for example, lead paint, some types of wood, minerals and metals, can be harmful to health and in some cases toxic.
- Wear safety glasses and a dust filter mask, and always use dust extraction when possible.
- Secure the workpiece with a clamp, clips or vice. This is much safer than using your hands and also means you have both hands free to operate the tool.
- Never put your hands near or in front of the power tool or the workpiece. The risk of personal injury as a result of slipping, or a momentary loss of balance, is reduced if you keep your hands at a safe distance. Pull out the plug from the power point immediately if there is a risk of a dangerous situation. The power cord should be directed back behind the power tool when working.
- Avoid contact with the sanding belt and other moving parts.
- Do not work on wet surfaces or damp material.
- Start the power tool and allow the sanding belt to reach the set speed before it is applied against the workpiece. Lift the power tool off the workpiece after sanding before switching it off.
- Hold the power tool firmly with both hands during the work. Always maintain a firm footing and good balance.
- Switch off the tool and wait until all moving parts have completely stopped before putting it down.

USE
STARTING/STOPPING
The sander has a full-wave rectifier with control electronics and soft
start functionality with starting current limiting device. The sander has a
power switch lock. It is often not necessary to use the power switch lock, but
for prolonged sanding it is convenient to lock the power switch for continuous
sanding.
Without power switch lock (intermittent sanding)
- Press the power switch – the sander starts and runs as long as the switch is pressed.
- Release the power switch to stop the sander.
With power switch lock (continuous sanding)
- Press the power switch and press the lock button at the same time – the power switch is locked in place and the sander runs continuously.
- Press and release the power switch to stop the sander.
ADJUSTING BELT SPEED
The belt speed can be adjusted with the thumbwheel, even when sanding. The
optimum belt speed depends on the material and the type of workpiece. Find the
best belt speed by trial and error.
SANDING PRESSURE
Apply slight pressure – the weight of the sander is enough to achieve good
sanding. By not applying pressure and allowing the machine to do the job, you
achieve better surface fineness and the sanding belt also lasts longer.
GRADE AND BELT SPEED
Sanding and surface fineness mainly depend on the belt speed and grade of
sandpaper (see instructions for choice of band speed and grade).
SANDING
- Do not use the same sanding belts for wood and metal.
- Sanding belts that are worn, scratched or otherwise damaged can damage the workpiece. Replace sanding belts in time.
- Keep the sanding belt well-tensioned so that it does not flap or crease and wear out.
Start the sander and place it flat on the workpiece and then move it slowly
back and forth in an overlapping pattern. Always sand in the direction of the
grain to reduce the risk of leaving marks.
Lift the sander off the workpiece after sanding it before switching it off.
DUST EXTRACTION
Fire risk! Sparks from sanding or sparks from the motor can ignite dust in
the box or extraction system. The risk of fire or explosion is increased if
the sanding dust contains paint residue or other chemicals and if the dust is
hot as a result of prolonged sanding. Empty the dust box or extraction system
bag at every pause in the work and after finishing, and as far as possible
keep the temperature of the sander and the material as low as possible.
Dust collection with box
- Push the box onto the dust outlet on the side of the sander.
Emptying the dust box
Pull the dust box off the dust outlet. Open the dust box and empty it.
Dust collection with extraction system
Fire risk! A dust box or household vacuum cleaner should not be used when
sanding metal because of the sparks. If there is a risk of exploding dust it
is necessary to use a safe dust extraction system.
- Push the dust extraction adapter onto the dust outlet on the side of the sander.
- Slip an approved dust extraction system hose on the dust extraction adapter (workshop dust extractor or equivalent).
SANDING WITH CLAMPED SANDER FIG. 2
The sander can be clamped to a workbench or other level and stable surface
with a fastener for horizontal or vertical sanding.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
Risk of personal injury. Switch off the product, wait until all moving parts have completely stopped, and pulled out the plug before cleaning and/or maintenance.
- Clean the product after use and if necessary during pauses in the work.
- Clean with a dry cloth. Do not use strong detergent or solvent, this can damage the plastic parts.
- Always keep the ventilation openings clean and free from blockages.
- Remove adhered dust and fouling with a small brush.
