APP SWAGE KIT
Set up swage holder with correct swage punch and shell holder
-
Unscrew swage cap over a clean table top and lift off swage holder.
-
Remove shell holder adapter, spring and swage pin and disc spring assembly.
-
Slide shell holder adapter into swage holder
-
Slide appropriate shell holder into exposed slot. IMPORTANT: shell holder must be installed in the adapter before reinstalling swage punch assembly.
-
Install spring into shell holder adapter followed by the correct swage punch assembly (small or large).
-
Re-install swage cap, finger tighten.
-
Do not install O-ring if using X-PRESS shell holders. If using a universal press shell holder, install O-ring to prevent shell holder rotation. The X-PRESS shell holders need to be able to float/ rotate to allow damaged or out of round rims to pass through without interference.
HOW TO USE
-
Install correct swage push rod in die the small diameter push rod is used for 22 caliber cases. The large push rod is for larger caliber cases.
Do not use the small push rod when swaging large primer pockets else the case bottom will deform and permanently damage the case.
-
Install swage push die in upper press casting. Tighten clockwise with adjustable wrench.
Note: It is important to use a wrench, a finger tightened swage push die will back out during use if not securely tightened. -
Install appropriate swage holder (small/large)in APP base casting. Secure with wrench.
Note: use a wrench, a finger tightened swage holder will back out during use if not securely tightened. -
Lower the press lever and screw the swage push punch in until it meets the small or large swaging punch.
-
Place a case that you wish to swage in the shell holder. Lower the press lever, notice that the connecting link will not meet the stops on the upper casting (PHOTO 1 & 2). Release the pressure on the press lever and unscrew the push rod in ¼ turn increments, apply approximately 25 pounds of pressure on the lever of the press and observe if the connecting link meets the stop (PHOTO 2). Continue to unscrew the swage push punch in ¼ turn increments until the connecting links meet the stop with 25 pounds of pressure applied to the lever. When you have it set, lower the lever, and tighten the knurled lock nut.
The best way to determine if you have sufficient swage on the primer pocket is to try seating a primer. If the primer starts and seats properly you have sufficient swage. As the tool is designed, it is impossible to swage excessively.
If you misadjust the push punch too deeply, the only consequence is the press lever will be very difficult to push to the stops. Adjusting to apply the least amount of swage to allow easy seating of primers will make the tool more pleasant to use.

Attention:
All cases must be decapped before swaging. Most foreign military brass is
Berdan primed and can not be deprimed with this product. Look inside the case,
it must have one central flash hole
23 / 5.56 NATO users: Your kit includes a decapping die fitted with our
decapping and flaring rod. If you are swaging 223 / 5.56 NATO cases, you
must use this die. The slight flare provides easy entry of the swage punch
into the case mouth. The tapered flare punch also rounds the necks that may
have been driven over by a tank or HUMVEE. Some crimped in primers are very
difficult to remove and may slide the decapper upward. If this happens, tap
the decapper flush with the top of the hex clamp. Securely tighten with a 3/4”
wrench on the die body and ” wrench on the decapper clamp.
Install the decapping and flare die until it touches the shell holder.
Tighten Philips screw on spline drive lock-ring.
Guided decapper helps align the case to reduce the chance of bending or breaking a decapper.
