Introduction

With input from the Massdrop team and community, MEE audio created an entirely new sort of driver for the Planamic in-ear monitors. The planar-magnetic and dynamic drivers of this design combine to provide a sound that is unique to our IEM portfolio. It has a distinct timbre than what you’d get from dynamic or balanced-armature IEMs. It is warm, cohesive, powerful, liquid, and rich. The single-sided magnet of the 10-millimeter driver produces a flatter wavefront of sound that is delivered to your ear, and its flat impedance ensures that the frequency response won’t fluctuate much depending on the source. You may play music directly from your phone or test out several portable DACs and amps. The Planamic features a universal-fit housing that shares traits with our most comfortable designs and comes with braided and mic-equipped cables among other items, wires.

DYNAMIC MEETS PLANAR MAGNETIC The Planamic is the result of more than a year’s worth of research and development, involving more than eight prototypes. MEE audio developed it because they think single-driver systems produce the best sound. Therefore, the company decided against pursuing a hybrid or multi- driver structure in favour of creating a new driver that addressed the common problems seen in planar magnetics. The benefit of a planar-magnetic driver is the flat sonic wavefront it generates; because of the traces and driver magnet structures, the driver’s entire surface moves in a single plane. The drawback is that compared to a dynamic or balanced-armature driver, the size and weight in the ear might be significantly larger. Consequently, the majority of planar-magnetic IEMs are big and open-backed, terrible at isolating, and MEE audio wished to avoid them. The answer is to alter the conventional dynamic driver design in order to gain the benefits of planar magnetics without the drawbacks.

The rapid attack and fade produce a bass that is extremely pure. Below 40Hz, sub-bass drops significantly, but it still performs admirably above that frequency. The mid-bass has excellent tone and is well defined. Although there was no audible bleed into the mids, the Planamic nevertheless has a little warm feeling thanks to the bass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these have a 3.5mm cable plug?

Wait, why is Drop asking about its own product?

How’s the noise cancellation on these? Because I’m looking for a good set of in-ears that have none

Isn’t the correct answer, “there is none”? As these would have noise isolation with no cancellation.

Do these have a bass heavy sound?

Bass is emphasized but in a pleasant way with good details.

Hi, are they good for big bass music please ? i mean do they have big bass ?

Yes, especially if you are running a clean, amplified signal.

What type of connector is on the monitor? I cannot find a replacement cable that looks like it would fit.

Its a standard 2 pin, a lot of times different brands call it anywhere from .73mm to .78mm but generally they will all work. If you want a specific recommendation I personally use a cable from LinSoul that i got on amazon and it fits just fine.

Do you definitely need an amp for them to work, I’m just getting started and is saving up for an amp?

Works fine without amp, but sounds better with one (am using dragonfly cobalt)

What is that headphone amp it’s plugged in to?

Figured it out: RHA DACamp L1.

Do drop headphones work well?

Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee is inferior to the Drop + Sennheiser PC38X as gaming headphones. The Drop performs better overall since they are more comfortable and include controls and a boom mic.

What exactly are earbuds with microphones?

Typically, headset microphones are worn with headphones or earbuds. A variety of headsets are readily available. Stereo sound is supported by headphones with two earcups and a connected microphone, however the sense of background noise is severely constrained. There is a neckband option for these headsets as well.
