Safety Notes
Please mind the included General Safety Notes and the following safety notes to avoid malfunctions, damages or physical injuries:
-
Dispose of used packaging material carefully or store it out of the reach of children. There is a danger of suffocation!
-
Make sure, the operating voltage stated on the type label corresponds to the power mains available in your area.
-
Please use the unit according to this manual and only for cutting metal sheets in allowed thicknesses. This applies especially for cutting of double sheets of iron and locks seams or weld seams. The unit is not intended for industrial continuous operation.
-
Make sure that the ON/OFF switch is turned off before connecting the power plug with mains supply. Please make adjustments and maintenance work only when the power cable is unplugged.
-
Keep the plate shear out of reach of children or persons in need of supervision.
-
Please wear convenient work clothes. Wear personally protective clothes as protective goggles, ear protection and safety gloves.
-
Do not use the shear near flammable liquids, gases or dust. Sparks may ignite the dust or fumes.
-
First switch off the unit before making any adjustments and when the unit is not in use, after finishing work and maintenance, and then disconnect the power lead from the mains supply.
-
Never carry the unit with the cable.
-
Immediately switch off the unit and do not use it further if
- sparks fly or a ring-fire in the collector is developing
- Lubricating oil runs out from the ventilation gaps
- Trouble on mains plug, power cable, cable protective sleeve or switch occurs
- smoke or strong odour of insolating material is developing
- one blade became loose, runs out or is damaged
- the motor runs irregular or is blocked.
-
The unit is designed for operation in altitudes of up to 2000 m above sea level.
-
Do not disassemble the unit and do not try to repair it yourself. Have th unit repaired by a professional or contact our customer service. Always use original replacement parts.
Operation
Set up the Blades
Adjust the space between the blades with the fastening screw (D) with the aid
of the enclosed feeler gauge (1).
- Adjust the fastening screw (D) with Allen key, so that you could edge in the feeler gauge for the required thickness between the blades. The adjustable range is 0.1 to 0.45 mm.
- If you want shear small radii, adjust a space of 0.3 mm between the blades.
- For thicker materials adjust 0.3 mm.
- For thinner materials adjust the space as follows: Space = 0.2 x thickness of the iron sheet
This method refers to materials with a shear strength of 390 N/mm². The value
should be lower when cutting soft and tough materials. Enlarge the value when
cutting hard and fragile materials.
Shear strength:
Shear strength 390 N/mm² = 2.5 mm Thickness
Shear strength 600 N/mm² = 2.0 mm Thickness
Shear strength 800 N/mm² = 1.5 mm Thickness
Usage of the Electric Plate Shear
Take the unit always with both hands. Put one hand on the grooved gripping area (G) and the other to the motor housing (H) for safety guidance. Never grasp the tool on the cutting-head or the protection plate.
-
To switch ON push the ON/OFF switch (B) in direction of the arrow until it locks. To switch OFF press the ON/OFF switch lightly down und let it slide back to the starting situation. Let the unit run until it has reached full speed. Apply the blade tip on the fixed workpiece and let the blade work along the cutting line. So it can work smoothly. Do not put large pressure on the workpiece. Guide the tool only along the cutting line.
-
Take care that the working piece is always below the protection plate. Therewith you avoid too far folding and blocking the material, bad cuts and injuries.
-
Always cut bends in counterclockwise rotation.
-
When you must break off the cut, first switch off the unit and wait until the blades stall. Then take the blades out of the working piece. So you avoid damaging the material.
Replacing the Blades
Replace damaged or used up blades with blades constructed in the same way.
- Screw off each rearward fastening screw by using an adequate Allen key. Replace it by a new one. Adjust the blades as described in “Set up the Blades”.
- Tighten the blades so that their cutting edges are parallel and the blades do not touch each other.
Replacing the Carbon Brushes
Enclosed in delivery you will find a pair of carbon brushes (3). If the
machine works powerless and sparking occurs at the brushes, it may be a sign
that the carbon brushes are used up and have to be replaced. Have the carbon
brushes replaced by a professional only or return the unit to the Westfalia
customer support department. Do not open the housing of the electric plate
shear. Do not try to repair it yourself. Replace both carbon brushes at the
same time.
Maintenance and Care
- Pull the plug from the wall socket before starting all maintenance work of the plate shear!
- Where necessary clean the unit with a moist cloth. Do not use abrasive or aggressive chemicals, which may dissolve plastic parts. Keep the handle dry and free from oil or grease.
- Always keep the ventilation slots clean and free from obstructions. If necessary, clean the ventilation slots with a soft paint brush. Do not allow liquids to enter the unit and never dip parts of the tool into fluids. Please make sure that all screws and all parts of the plate shear are tightened. After using the unit, please check the condition of the blades. Do not use defective or deformed blades.
- Store the unit in a dry place between 10°C and 30°C out of reach of children and persons in need of supervision.
