Safety Notes

Please note the following safety notes to avoid malfunctions, damage or physical injury:

  • The hand power puller may only be used for pulling freely moving loads, such as rolling, swimming or sliding loads within the max. pulling capacity specified in the Technical Data.

  • Do not use the hand power puller for lifting loads!

  • Do not overload the hand power puller. Take into account ambient conditions, such as the angle of incline over which the load must be pulled. Please also consider conditions such as pulling the load from thick mud, snow or water. The pulling capacity is given as a rolling load on a level surface.

  • Any modifications on the hand power puller are not allowed.

  • Moving persons with the hand power puller is prohibited.

  • Keep children and uninvolved persons out of the working area. When moving an object (vehicle, boat, etc.) persons are not allowed to be inside the vehicle or in the vicinity of it.

  • Keep the hand power puller out of reach of children. It is not a toy.

  • Persons with limited physical, sensorial or mental abilities are not allowed to use the hand power puller, unless they are supervised and briefed for their safety by a qualified person.

  • Wear suitable safety gloves when operating the hand power puller, preferably use leather gloves. Wear suitable clothes.
Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep hair, clothes and gloves away from moving parts.

  • Keep the working area clean and tidy.

  • Do not work with the hand power puller in an area where an explosion hazard is present on account of flammable liquids, gases or dusts.

  • Never attach the hook on vehicle panels, beams, steering components, drive shafts, or deck clamps! Do not loop the steel cable around the object and never draw a loop with the hook!

  • Do not use the hand power puller to move loads which may drop or roll. If necessary; take precautions to prevent the load from falling over or rolling. After work do not release the lever before the load is appropriately secured.

  • Do not use the hand power puller from a motor vehicle with a running engine.

  • Before using the hand power puller, make sure the cable is in good condition. Only use suitable lifting tackles for fastening the load. Inspect the cable for any kinks, knots, breakage or any other dam-age. If the cable is kinked or damaged, or if the hook latch (6) is missing resp. if the cable is shaking under load, then do not use the hand power puller any further, and have it inspected and repaired by a qualified technician.

  • While the cable is under load do not stand directly behind or over the hand power puller but stand sidewise, in an angle of 90° to the hand power puller. If the cable breaks under load, it can swing back severely. Do not stay in the danger area and ensure that others are not endangered.

  • During operation, keep your hands away from the load bearing cable and other parts of the hand power puller.

  • Turn the crank only by hand; do not attach motors of any kind.

  • Under load at least three windings of cable must remain on the cable drum. Otherwise the cable will be torn for the anchorage when it is entirely unrolled.

  • If you pull heavy loads, hang a blanket or a jacket on the cable in a distance of about 1 – 2 m away from the hook in order to significantly reduce the risks caused by a breaking cable.

  • Make sure the cable is wound properly on the cable drum, one winding next to the other winding, without any knots or loops.

  • Make sure all warning signs are clearly legible at all times.

  • Service the hand power puller carefully. Check that movable parts function correctly and do not jam, and whether any parts are broken or damaged in such a way that the function of the hand power puller is impaired. Have any damaged part repaired before using the hand power puller.

  • The service life of the hand power puller and some parts are limited, worn out parts must be replaced in a timely manner.

  • Only allow qualified technicians to repair your hand power puller using only original replacement parts. Once a year, have the hand power puller checked by a qualified service technician.

  • Do not leave the hand power puller unattended while in use. When the power puller is in use, an authorized person must supervise the unit. Otherwise there is risk of severe human injuries and damages to the unit.

  • Protect the hand power puller from liquids of any kind and moisture. Rust could damage the mechanical system and the cable of the power puller.

  • Do not pull the cable over or around a corner.

  • Do not wrap the cable around the load to be pulled but fasten the safety hook on a rigid and suitable anchoring point on the load.

  • Frist check the load to be pulled. Do not overload the hand power puller!

  • Never use a pipe lever or other devices to lengthen the lever for additional leverage. This will bend and destroy the hand power puller.

Technical Data

Intended Use
  • The hand power puller is designed for moving and pulling freely moving (rolling/swimming/sliding) within the limits that are specified in the technical data. The hand power puller must not be used for moving fixed loads and for lifting loads.
  • The intended use also includes an operation following the operating instructions. Any use beyond these parameters (different media, apply-ing force) or any changes (reconstruction, no original accessory) can lead to serious risks and is regarded as use that is contrary to the intended purpose.

Before each operation, secure the load against rolling.

Slacken the Tension of the Steel Cable

  1. Make sure the safety hook (5) resp. The safety hook with the pulley is anchored to a sturdy point.Westfalia-94-46-90-1000-kg-Cable-Pull-Instruction-Manual-03

  2. Lift up the release spring

  3. in direction to the arrow.

  4. Lift the lever (9) and hold it in position so the release hooks (2) release the rack wheel (3). Press the catch of the locking hook (4) from behind and below. Thus the rack wheel (3) is free. Now the steel cable is slackened.

  5. Hook one end of the power puller on a rigid anchoring point and pull the hand power puller up to the desired length.
While unwinding the steel cable make sure that at least three winding will remain on the cable drum!

  6. Hook the other safety hook (5) on the load to be pulled and press down the release spring (1).

Tensioning the Steel Cable
  1. Press down the release spring (1) again in order to hook the release hook (2) back into the rack wheel (3).
  2. Operate the lever up and down in order to tension the steel cable.

Releasing the Tension of the Steel Cable

  1. To release the tension of the steel cable, lift up the release spring (1).

  2. Hold the lever (9) down until the release hook (2) pushes the locking hook (4) up and disengages the locking hook (4). Now the rack wheel
    (3) is moving free and by operating the lever back, the tension will be released by one notch of the locking hook (4).

  3. Operate the lever up and down in order to release the tension one notch at a time.
WARNING: While releasing the tension, avoid abrupt lever movements. Only apply even and steady pressure to the lever! Never re-lease the locking hook while the load is not properly secured!

Maintenance, Cleaning and Storing

  • If the hand power puller is used extensively, it should be examined and lubricated by a qualified technician once a year.
  • Do not try to repair the hand power puller yourself and do not disassemble it. Have the hand power puller repaired by a professional only.
  • Clean the housing of the hand power puller with a lightly moistened cloth.
  • Before undertaking any inspection or maintenance work on the hand power puller, make sure the power puller is released. Do not work on the power puller under load!
  • Keep the steel cable clean and well lubricated. Lubricate the cable from time to time by applying a thin layer of grease resp. spray a thin layer of chain and robe spray. Regularly lubricate all moving parts and keep the hand power puller clean at all times.
  • Store the hand power puller in a safe and dry place out of reach of children. Inspect the unit at regular intervals. Only use original accesso-ry and replacement parts. Store the hand power puller indoors and protect it from dust, dirt and extreme temperatures.

Technical Data
Please note that the pulling force will increase if the load to be pulled is not rolling or if the load is not lying on a firm and even ground.
When pulling an object in straight pulling and using the pulley, the stated pulling capacity (LC) 40 daN) is the maximum capacity that can be performed with the hand power puller.

The pulling load of 4 tons refers to the maximum load that can be pulled with the hand power puller while using the pulley. If the pulley will not be used, the pulling load is reduced to half.
