PETERMANN BM-5000 Blue Motion Flexible Sliding Board

General Information

  • Thank you for choosing a Petermann product.
  • Please read the user manual carefully before using the product for the first time!
  • The current understanding in modern occupational health and safety is that people in nursing professions experience significant work-related physical strain. Back injuries are common. There are many situations in which a patient has to be transferred from a bed, a wheeled stretcher, ambulance stretcher, an X-Ray table or a wheelchair to a different stretcher or seat. The strain on the user and the patient / care-dependent can be reduced significantly through the use of transfer aids.
  • The use of transfer aids should be conditional upon the user having learned to use the equipment properly. The user has to decide for themselves what equipment is suitable to the patient’s situation and the intended sequence of movements.
  • The Sliding Boards are part of a product line which is used specifically to aid in the transfer of patients in hospitals and other health care facilities, as well as in home care.
  • The product may only be used for the specified purpose and under the specified conditions.
  • The Sliding Board is a safe transfer aid, which allows for a transfer from bed to wheelchair or other seating positions, which is pleasant and comfortable for the patient as well as being simple and back-friendly for the users.
  • The information in this user manual is for the patient who is being transferred and moved, as well as the user performing the transfer / position change.
  • Contact us if you require additional information or assistance using the Petermann product.

Safety information

WARNING indicates a potential danger which could lead to personal injury or material damage.

  • It is the responsibility of the organisation / the user to determine, on the basis of the circumstances (weight / health condition of the patient) and the capabilities of the user, whether several users may be required for the transfer and/or whether additional safety measures are required.
  • Defective products may no longer be used.
  • Weight limits must be observed (150 kg).
  • The handle is intended solely for positioning. Do not reach into the handle openings during transfer.
  • The use of non-standard cleaning agents or bleaching agents, alcohols or other chemical additives may lead to permanent deterioration of the sliding mat properties.
  • Ensure that both ends of the sliding board are securely supported on the transfer surfaces. The clear distance bridged with the sliding board must not exceed 20 cm.
  • Transfers under naked skin must be aided with a protective layer (e.g. towel).
  • The smooth surface significantly reduces resistance due to friction during repositioning. Check the transfer surfaces carefully to ensure they are fixed in place securely (e.g. wheelchair, bed).
  • Transfer products are subject to a natural ageing process. Inspect the equipment regularly to ensure proper functionality.

Function check
Transfer products are also subject to a natural ageing process. Inspect the equipment regularly and carefully, in particular before each use. Ensure that the product is in sound condition and that the material and the seams are not damaged. Verify the function and stability of the product by bending the board carefully and ensure that the material is elastic, yet firm and stable and withstands the load. The smooth surface of the special sliding material allows for easy sliding and moving. Check these properties – ideally in comparison to a new product.
Defective products may no longer be used!

Application

The Sliding Board is used for transferring patients. The patient is no longer required to come to a standing position, but can complete the position change independently or with assistance while seated. The BM-5000 has a similar bearing surface area without the bevel.

  1. Placement
    • Steady the upper body and tilt slightly to the side.
    • Push the Sliding Board under the buttocks approx. one hand width, parallel with the sitting surface.
    • Raise the patient.
    • Turn the Sliding Board underneath the patient in the desired direction to the transfer target.
    • The transfer can take place.
  2. Transfer methods
    • Independently through weight transfer, do not reach into the handle openings as the handle is intended solely for positioning.
    • Transfer with assistance
    • Transfer with additional aids
    • Backwards transfer in case of double amputation is possible.
    • Transfer with additional sliding aids (BM-0652/-0752): this combination facilitates the transfer to and positioning in a wheelchair and may only be performed with assistance!
