Instruction

The Kamado Joe® Charcoal Basket makes it even easier to clean your firebox after a cook. It allows you to quickly separate leftover charcoal from your ashes and be ready for your next cook in seconds. The Charcoal Basket also comes with a thick stainless-steel divider allowing you to easily create two cooking zones. The Charcoal Basket is designed to connect to the bottom of the Divide & Conquer Flexible Cooking System, so you can simply rotate it to connect or disconnect when lifting in and out of the grill.

  1. Remove the cooking grates, heat deflectors and the divide and conquer rack.

  2. There are 4 drop down connection points on the divide and conquer rack. The charcoal basket hooks to each connection point.

  3. Use the 4 hooks on the charcoal basket to connect the divide and conquer rack to the charcoal basket.

  4. Lower the rack and basket assembly into the grill.

  5. Replace the heat deflector plates. The heat deflectors rest on top of the charcoal basket hooks.

  6. Replace the cooking grates.

RECOMMENDED USE

  1. With the divide and conquer rack and charcoal basket in the grill, fill the charcoal basket with charcoal. Light the charcoal in 1–2 places to help your grill heat as quickly as possible. For indirect cooking, arrange the charcoal to one side and use the basket divider.
  2. For slower cooks, install one or two half-moon deflector plates. For grilling, use the cooking grates only. Leave the dome open for about 10 minutes, then close.
  3. Open the bottom vent and top vent fully until the Kamado Joe reaches target temperature for grilling, 400–600°F. Then close the top vent halfway to maintain, making adjustments if necessary.
  4. Be sure to ‘burp’ the grill every time you open the dome to prevent dangerous flashback—a surge of white-hot heat caused by a rush of oxygen. Partially opening the dome (2–3 inches) and allowing heat to escape for about 5 seconds should prevent this.
  5. When the grill is hot enough, place your food on the grate and turn when necessary. Use tongs, not forks, to turn to prevent juices from escaping.
