Operating instructions

Notes on these operating instructions

1.1 Contents and target group of the instructions

It is essential to pay attention to these operating instructions in order to operate the product successfully and safely. Please pay attention to all of the instructions and notes!
The following documents must be observed for operation:

  • Operating instructions
  • Installation instructions

The following parts of the instructions must be read and observed by the specified groups of people before they start to use the product:

1.2 Obligations of the operator
The operator has the following obligations:

  • The operating instructions and the installation instructions must always be ready to hand for the specified groups of people.
  • The instructions must be kept until the product is disposed of, and handed to the new operator in the event of a change of operator.
  • The programming and erasing keys must be kept in a safe place, since unauthorised persons can gain access to lockers with both keys.

1.3 Personnel qualifications
Installation and start-up personnel

Installation and start-up may only be carried out by trained experts.
Personnel who are being trained may only install and start up the product under supervision or after being authorised to do so by someone with experience.
The operator and the installer are personally responsible for compliance with the VDE regulations (and the national electrotechnical and electronics regulations).

Operating personnel (personnel with locking authorisation)
The operating personnel must be informed about the following:

  • Safe and proper handling of the product
  • responsible use of locking authorisations to occupied lockers

Service and maintenance personnel
Cleaning work and battery change may be carried out by the operating personnel (after obtaining authorisation from the operator). Other maintenance work is not permitted.

1.4 Exclusion of liability
No liability is accepted for injuries or damage that is attributable to one or more of the following reasons:

  • failure to read and/or follow the instructions
  • abuse of the equipment
  • inadequately qualified / instructed personnel,
  • failure to use original replacement parts
  • negligent handling of the product

Information about the product

2.1 Correct purpose of use

The product is an electronic, battery-operated locker lock for all of the most common locker types. The locking mechanism is controlled by electronic keys (transponders).
The product is intended for the following areas of application:

  • Installation on the inside of locker doors
  • Use on locker doors inside buildings
  • Use on doors that comply with the specified installation requirements (see chapter “Installation requirements” of the installation instructions)
  • For use with Dialock transponders

Correct purpose of use also includes adhering to the manufacturer’s operating, service and maintenance conditions.

2.2 Incorrect purpose of use
Any use that is not mentioned in chapter 2.1 is considered to be improper.
The operator is solely responsible for any resulting damage. It is particularly important to avoid the following:

  • Use as locking system for room doors / building entrances
  • Use outside or in damp environments
  • Use in aggressive environments (containing salt or chlorine, for example)
  • Use in locations with vibration such as vehicles, ships
  • Omitting components during installation
  • Changes to the installation order
  • Use of defective or damaged components
  • Use of non-original parts
  • modifications and repairs to the product

2.4 Operation modes

Stand-alone operation (SA)
This mode is intended for regular use of a locker by the same user.
The user key is taught in once by the operating personnel and then has the lockingauthorisation for this locker until it is withdrawn again by the operating personnel.
Other operation modes such as “Free choice of locker” can be configured on site.
To do this, please contact your Dialock technician or Häfele.

Safety

3.1 Safety notes and dangers
The product has been built in accordance with the latest state of technology and the recognised technical safety regulations. Nevertheless, danger to persons or damage to product or other property could occur during installation and use.

WARNING
Risk of fatality due to failures or faults in electromagnetically sensitive devices!
The electromagnetic radiation of the product can cause faults in sensitive parts (e.g. in medical equipment).
The functionality thereof will be adversely affected.

Do not place product close to electromagnetically sensitive devices.
Pay attention to the safety instructions for the electromagnetically sensitive devices. If you have any doubts regarding compatibility, please contact the manufacturer.

WARNING
Danger in case of improper use!
Improper use of the product can result in dangerous situations.

Never use the product in potentially explosive areas.
Never use the product under any other than the approved ambient conditions.

NOTE
Damage to product due to damaged wires!
Damaged wires affect the functionality of the product.

Do not trap or damage wires during installation.
Never use the product if any wires have been damaged.

3.2 Safety symbols
The following stickers are located on one or more components of the access control system. They relate to the immediate environment of where they are located.

Electric voltage
Only qualified electricians are permitted to work on such marked components.
Unauthorised persons may not open the such marked cabinet.

Crossed-out dustbin
**** This image indicates that the respective component must not be disposed of with residential waste.

Do not touch
Components with this marking could be damaged by touching.
Lead
The circuit board does not contain lead.

3.3 Environmental protection

NOTE
Risk to the environment due to improper handling of environmentally hazardous substances!
Improper handling of environmentally hazardous substances, particularly improper disposal, can cause significant damage to the environment.

Always follow the notes below for handling environmentally hazardous substances and their disposal.
If environmentally hazardous substances are accidentally released into the environment, immediately take appropriate action. When in doubt, notify the appropriate local authority of the damage and check for appropriate measures to be taken.

The following environmentally hazardous substances are used:
Batteries
Batteries contain toxic heavy metals. They are subject to special waste treatment and must be handed into municipal collection points or disposed of by a specialist company.

Electric and electronic components
Electric and electronic components may contain toxic materials. These components must be collected separately and be deposited at municipal collection points or disposed of by a specialist company.

Installation

The installation instructions are a separate document and are enclosed with the product. They are exclusively intended for:

  • The operator
  • the installation and start-up personnel

Start-up

The product is supplied in so-called simple operation mode for stand-alone operation (SA). These instructions only describe how to start up in this operation mode.

  • Contact the manufacturer for other operation modes.
  • The “Stand-Alone” operation mode will be permanently shut off once the product is configured for the first time using the Dialock MDU. After that, reactivating this operation mode is only possible after a reset.

5.1 Initial start-up

The programming key and the erasing key are taught in for initial start-up.
These work operations only need to be carried out during initial start-up.

NOTE
Malfunction due to outdated Dialock firmware.
To ensure that the current Dialock firmware is running on the terminal, the device has to be flashed (programmed) using the mobile programming unit (MDU) during start-up. In case of questions concerning the firmware version or the procedure please contact Häfele.
The work operations must be carried out within a short time window.
The following therefore applies:

  • Study every work operation and have the keys that are needed at the ready before commencing with initial start-up.
  • Perform the work operations quickly and without interruptions.

For safety reasons, the initial start-up can only take place within 5 seconds after the battery was inserted.
If this time window is missed, the initial start-up can be started again by removing the battery and inserting it again.

If errors have occurred:

  • Repeat process.

Allocating locking authorisations

NOTE
Warning of abuse!
Unauthorised persons can gain access to lockers using the programming, erasing and privileged keys.

Only personnel who are authorised by the operator may allocate locking authorisations! Take care when allocating locking authorisations to avoid overlapping or mistakes.
Keep programming, erasing and privileged keys in a safe place and protect from abuse.

6.1 Allocating locking authorisations – normal user keys
The normal user keys have the locking authorisation for a locker with a fixed allocation.

6.2 Allocating locking authorisations – privileged user keys
The privileged user keys have the same rights as the normal user keys, but can also be used by privileged persons to configure the relevant locker lock in combination with the MDU.

Clearing locking authorisations

7.1 Clearing the locking authorisations of individual keys

7.2 Erasing the lockingauthorisations of all keys
If a user key was lost, all user keys must be cleared at the LockerLock.

Then locking authorisation must be allocated to all of the required user keys again (see chapter “6. Allocating locking authorisations”).

Operation

8.1 Locking

  • An authorised user key is needed to lock the door.

8.2 Unlocking

  • An authorised user key is needed to unlock the door.

Reset

In order to rectify the error, it may be necessary to perform a reset. There are two ways of doing this:

  • Simple reset (only for maintenance purposes)
  • Factory reset

The reset described here can only be carried out in the removed condition (see chapter “Disassembly” of the installation instructions).
To carry out a reset with the MDU programming unit, please contact your Dialock technician or Häfele.

9.1 Simple reset
The simple reset is exclusively for maintenance purposes in the factory.
With the simple reset, the main configuration data such as logs or keys is untouched.
However, a privileged login is no longer required for subsequent use of the MDU.
From this point in time the terminal can be manipulated with an MDU at any time.
WARNING
Warning of abuse!
In stand-alone mode, all programming, erasing and user keys remain valid after a simple reset. In combination with the possibility to use an MDU without a privileged login there is risk that the terminal will not be secure. The terminal settings can be modified with an MDU at any time.

In stand-alone mode it is essential to ensure that a factory reset is carried out after a simple reset.

9.2 Factory reset
A factory reset resets the terminal to the factory settings. All data (configuration files, keys and audit trails) is deleted.
A factory reset may be required in the following cases:

  • Complete deletion of all data (e.g. in the event of return to stocks/warehouse)
  • Loss of programming and erasing key in stand-alone mode
  • Resetting of software mode to stand-alone mode

Troubleshooting

If an attempt is made to lock a door with a user key

Acoustic signal is heard twice.| User key is not authorised.
Acoustic signal is heard three times. Red and green LEDs on the inside flash three times alternately.| Replace batteries immediately.
Other malfunctions.| Please contact your Dialock technician or Häfele.

Cleaning / maintenance

11.1 Cleaning

NOTE
Damage to product due to incorrect cleaning!

Do not use cleaners containing alcohol, organic solvents or thinners.
Do not use abrasive materials.
Do not use pressure or steam cleaning devices.

Clean outer surfaces of product if necessary:

  • with a dry, soft cotton cloth or
  • a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid or neutral cleaner

11.2 Servicing /maintenance
The product is maintenance-free apart from having to change the batteries.
NOTE
Damage to product due to incorrect maintenance!

Do not use lubricants. Do not carry out repairs.
Contact the manufacturer in the event of damage / malfunctions.
If parts have to be replaced, always use original replacement parts from Häfele.

11.3 Battery change
The batteries have to be checked at regular intervals and replaced, if necessary.
NOTE
Damage to product due to lack of maintenance!
Problem-free operation is only ensured if adequately charged batteries are used. In case of empty batteries, the lock may be blocked in closed position. The lock can then only be opened by destroying it.

Maintenance instructions on battery change must be observed.
If the batteries are discharged, the LockerLock can be unlocked once again, but not locked again.
If the LockerLock is now activated by pressing the push-button, the signal is emitted three times and the LEDs on the inside flash three times alternately in red and green.
This is the request for an immediate battery change.

NOTE
Malfunction due to low battery charge!
Problem-free operation is only ensured if adequately charged batteries are used.

Replace weak batteries immediately as soon as the signal occurs!
Only use new batteries of the following type: 4x 1.5 V Mignon batteries AA (LR6) alkaline Type E91 Energizer industrial (Häfele Cat. No.: 910.54.980)
Always replace all batteries.
The use of rechargeable battery packs is not permitted.

There is also the possibility to read out the exact charge status using the MDU mobile programming unit at any time. In case of questions concerning the MDU please contact Häfele.
NOTE
Please pay attention to the following when using lithium batteries:

The type-specific discharge behaviour of lithium batteries (considerable voltage drop at the end of the life time) may cause that a low battery is indicated at the locker lock only for a short period or not at all. This may cause a short-term malfunction of the locker lock.

The locking authorisations for the user keys are also retained after a battery change and do not have to be reset.

NOTE

> Do not dispose of the old batteries in residential waste!

Dispose of batteries in an environmentally friendly way, e.g. using a municipal collection point.

  1. Close door.
  2. Press the push-button with user key. Hold it down for 1 sec..
  3. Acoustic signal is heard.
  4. Remove user key. Door is locked.

  1. Remove lock case from installation housing.

  2. Place push button onto contacts in lock case. Press push button.

  3. Short acoustic signal is heard. Red and green LEDs illuminate.

  4. Hold the push button down for 1 sec.. Green LED flashes 1x/sec.

  5. Simple reset is carried out. Acoustic signal is heard. Configuration data is retained.

  6. Remove push button.

  7. Insert lock case into installation housing. Install the Lockerlock LL 200.

Reset – Factory reset

  1. Remove lock case from installation housing.

  2. Place push button onto contacts in lock case. Press push button.

  3. Short acoustic signal is heard. Red and green LEDs illuminate.

  4. Hold the push button down for at least 3 sec..

  5. Factory reset is carried out. Red and green LED flash 5x/sec..
    Acoustic signal is heard. The factory settings are restored.

  6. Remove push button.

  7. Start-up mode is restarted. Green LED flashes for max. 5 sec.,
    see p. 52. If this time window is missed, see chap. 5.1.

  8. Insert lock case back into installation housing.
    Install the Lockerlock LL 200.
