INSTALLATION TIPS

  1. BEFORE YOU BEGIN INSTALLATION, READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY.
  2. TO EASE INSTALLATION, 2 PEOPLE MAY BE REQUIRED.
  3. USING PROPER TOOLS WILL GREATLY IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THE INSTALLATION AND REDUCE THE TIME REQUIRED.

INSTALLATION WALKTHROUGH

  1. Remove (2) exhaust hangers by unbolting (4) M8 hex bolts and (2) M8 hex nuts.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(6\)

  2. Lower exhaust by removing (2) forward rubber isolators.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(7\)

  3. Fishwire (1) 1/2″ carriage bolt and (1) CM-SP6 spacer into the forwardmost hole in each frame rail, as shown.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(8\)

  4. Raise the driver-side plate into position on the driver-side frame rail and loosely fasten it with a 1/2″ flange nut.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(9\)

  5. Place the exhaust hanger back into position. (Plate will now be sandwiched between the frame rail and exhaust hanger.)
    Reinstall (1) M8 hex nut which was removed in STEP 1. Tighten this nut and slide the plate forward

  6. Reinstall (2) M8 hex bolts which were removed in STEP 1. Repeat STEPS 4-6 with the passenger side plate.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(11\)

  7. Temporarily raise the hitch into position and adjust the plates as needed for the hitch to slide over the outsides of the plates.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(12\)

  8. Lower hitch and torque all 1/2″ hardware to 110 ft-lbs and all M8 hardware to 23 ft-lbs.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(13\)

  9. Raise the hitch into position and fasten to side plates with 1/2″ hardware, as shown above. Torque all 1/2″ hardware to 75 ft-lbs. Reinstall (2) rubber isolators which were removed in STEP 1.CURT-11196-Class-1-Trailer-Hitch-fig- \(14\)
    Install is complete.

RUBBER ISOLATOR REMOVAL DIAGRAM

  • This technique can be used if an Exhaust Hanger Removal Pliers is not available.
  • Using a 5/8″ open-end wrench, slide the wrench up to the rubber isolator, cradling the hanger rod as shown. Next place the flat edge of a pry bar between the wrench and the hanger stop or hanger rod. Then simply rotate the pry bar toward the wrench to remove the rubber isolator.
  • Note: Using a spray lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and the rubber isolator helps removal.

TOOLS REQUIRED

  • PRY BAR
  • RATCHET
  • 13mm, 3/4″ SOCKETS
  • 13mm BOXED END WRENCH
  • TORQUE WRENCH

FISHWIRE TECHNIQUE
INSERT cOILED END OF FISHWIRE TOoL THROUGH HITCH MOUNTING HOLE IN VEHICLE FRAME RAIL AND OUT THE ACCESS HOLE. PASS THE COILED END OF THE FISHWIRE THROUGH THE SPACER AND THREAD BOLT INTO THE COIL. KINK WIRE TO KEEP SPACER SEPERATE FROM BOLT AS SHOWN. PULL FISHWIRE, SPACER, AND BOLT THROUGH FRAME AND OUT MOUNTING HOLE. USE FISH WIRE TO GUIDE HITCH DURING MOUNTING AND PREVENT LOSS OF BOLT/SPACER INSIDE FRAME RAIL.

NOTE: SOME VEHICLES MAY FISH WIRE THROUGH THE END OF THE FRAME.

INSTALLATION STEPS

  1. Remove (2) exhaust hangers by unbolting (4) M8 hex bolts and (2) M8 hex nuts. Lower exhaust by removing (2) forward rubber isolators. See RUBBER ISOLATOR REMOVAL DIAGRAM above.
  2. Fishwire (1) 1/2″ carriage bolt and (1) CM-SP6 spacer into the forwardmost hole in each frame rail, as shown above. See FISHWIRE TECHNIQUE above.
  3. Raise the driver-side plate into position on the driver-side frame rail and loosely fasten it with a 1/2″ flange nut.
  4. Place the exhaust hanger back into position. (Plate will now be sandwiched between the frame rail and exhaust hanger.) Reinstall (1) M8 hex nut which was removed in STEP 1. Note: Tighten this nut and slide plate forward or back until holes are aligned with weld nuts.
  5. Reinstall (2) M8 hex bolts which were removed in STEP 1. Repeat STEPS 3-5 with the passenger side plate.
  6. Temporarily raise the hitch into position and adjust plates as needed for the hitch to slide over the outsides of plates.
  7. Lower hitch and torque all 1/2″ hardware to 110 ft-lbs and all M8 hardware to 23 ft-lbs.
  8. Raise the hitch into position and fasten it to the side plates with 1/2″ hardware, as shown above. Torque all 1/2″
    hardware to 110 ft-lbs. Reinstall (2) rubber isolators which were removed in STEP 1.

PERIODICALLY CHECK THIS RECEIVER HITCH TO ENSURE THAT ALL FASTENERS ARE TIGHT AND THAT ALL STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS ARE SOUND.
