NOMENCLATURE

DESCRIPTION.
The SPS NODE series UPS is an Off-Line UPS designed to be fully adaptable to single-user environments. With the attractive appearance of a rack unit, it has eight output sockets, capable of supplying a more or less extensive backup time depending on the level of load connected to the output. All outlets are equipped with surge protection. The main function of the UPS is to supply the equipment connected to the output sockets for a limited period in the event of a mains failure, using the internal battery it incorporates.  Off-line UPSs do the latter, covering mains failures by supplying a similar voltage for some time. Under normal conditions, the UPS output is the same as the AC mains input. A real-time detection circuit detects main outages, switching to battery quickly, allowing the system to keep loads powered with a modified sine wave. Communication and control of the equipment are available through a USB-HID port and monitoring and management software.

Structural block diagram

Main benefits.

  • Off-Line technology.
  • 900 VA in 2U rack format.
  • Compatibility with APFC type loads.
  • The vast majority of power supplies for electronic equipment are switched-mode power supplies (SMPS) and, increasingly, incorporate an active power factor correction (APFC) to minimize the distortion caused to the power line. SPS NODE UPSs are compatible with all equipment incorporating these features.
  • The pseudo-sine waveform of the output voltage.
  • 6 sockets on the front panel + 2 additional sockets on the rear panel.
  • USB interface with HID protocol.
  • PowerMaster+ software for Windows, Linux, or Mac.
  • Auto-detection of input frequency 50 / 60 Hz.
  • Cold start capability, ColdStart function.
  • Automatic restart after mains failure and end of autonomy.
  • Overload protection using accessible thermal protection.
  • Battery protection by internal fuse.
  • Fanless technology.

INSTALLATION AND OPERATION.

  • Read and observe the Safety Information described in Chapter 2 of this document. Failure to observe any of the instructions described in this document may result in serious or very serious accidents to persons in direct contact or the immediate vicinity, as well as damage to the equipment and/or the loads connected to it.
  • During discharge, the equipment operates in IT (isolated earth) neutral mode. This means that the neutral is not directly connected to the earth, providing an additional layer of safety and stability in critical situations. To ensure optimal and safe operation, follow the guidelines in the user manual and contact your distributor if you have any questions.

LOCATION AND CONSIDERATIONS.

Location.

  • Install the unit in a location taking into consideration and respecting the indications of the Safety Instructions of document EK266*08.
  • The UPS can be placed in a rack cabinet or fixed under a table using the brackets provided for this purpose, as shown in the following figure:

Under-table installation.

Considerations

Battery charging.

  • Although the equipment can operate without any inconvenience without charging the battery for the indicated time, the risk of a prolonged outage during the first hours of operation and the backup time or autonomy available by the UPS, which may be uncertain, must be taken into account.

Power connected to the SPS.NODE.

  • Check that the loads connected to the sockets do not exceed the power of the unit, see section 7 of this document. If the rated capacities are exceeded, an overload condition will occur.
  • For optimum performance keep the load connected to the SPS below 80% of rated capacity.

CONNECTION AND START-UP

PROCEDURE.

  • All equipment connections, including control connections, shall be made with all switches at rest and no mains present (UPS power line disconnect switch “Off”).
  • It must never be forgotten that a UPS is a generator of electrical energy, so the user must take the necessary precautions against direct or indirect contact when it is part of the installation.

Procedure to follow.

Observe the following order of operation and instructions:

  • Connect the PC, display, and sensitive equipment to the output sockets
    •  Of the equipment. Do not connect a laser printer, paper shredder, or other power-hungry electrical devices or high current spikes to the output sockets. The power demand of any of these devices will overload the SPS and possibly damage the unit.
  • Take the supplied power cord (see “Tab. 1. List of contents”) and connect the plug at the end to a properly connected AC outlet (socket outlet) with a protective earth connection. The power supply socket of the SPS.NODE shall be protected by a fuse or a circuit breaker. This line must not supply machines with high electrical demands (e.g. air conditioning, refrigerator, etc.). Avoid the use of extension cables, as the SPS itself could be considered a PDU.
  • Press the ON/OFF button
    •  to start the unit. The green power indicator LED will light up It is possible to start up without the mains being present (Cold start function) by pressing the ON/OFFbutton
    •  However, this is not recommended, as if the mains failure is prolonged beyond the available autonomy, it will also be necessary to carry out the forced shutdown.
  • In the event of mains failure and reaching the end of battery autonomy, the equipment will automatically block, leaving the loads without a power supply. In the same way, when the mains voltage is restored, the device will start automatically.
  • In case of storing or keeping the UPS for a long period, protect it against dust, impacts, etc., and keep it with the battery fully charged. Recharge according to the period established in Table 2 of the document EK266*08 corresponding to the Safety Instructions, in correlation to the ambient temperature to which the SPS is.NODE is subjected. In this way, a longer battery life can be guaranteed.
