Installation instructions for multi-functional measuring device with Modbus RTU interface and direct measure- ment

These instructions form a key part of the product. They must be consulted when installing the energy meter. These instructions must be kept in perfect condition and stored in a clean place easily accessible to the operator

Safety notices and warnings

The “attention sign” printed on the device means:

  • Installation, operation and maintenance should be carried out by a specialist qualified in electrical engineering. Follo  the installation instructions provided. Observe the rules and safety regulations (including national safety regulations) applicable to setup and operation as well as recognised good engineering practice.
  • Use an appropriate voltage measuring device to make sure that there is no voltage present.
  • Install the device in accordance with the instructions provided in the installation instructions. Accessing the circuits inside the device is not permitted.
  • The measuring device is maintenance-free. Repairs may only be carried out by the manufacturer.
  • Only clean the device with a suitable damp cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents and switch off the device before cleaning.
  • Make sure that all terminals are correctly connected in order to avoid damage to the device.
  • Observe the maximum permissible voltage (480 V AC relative phase or 276 V AC relative neutral conductor) and grid frequency (50 Hz).

Brief description

This device is a digital three-phase energy measuring device, suitable for measuring active power through a direct measurement in power grids of no more than 480 V / 100 A, with 2 pulse outputs, an RS485 interface and an operating temperature range of up to +70 °C.

Installation

Mounting

The device is latched onto a mounting rail in the control cabinet. It can be installed in any position provided that the LCD can still be read.

RS485 interface

The RS485 interface is used for local networking with the Modbus RTU protocol.
The maximum length is 30 m at 38400 bit/s

Installation

  1. Fit KEM on DIN rail.
  2. Open connection covers.
  3. Connect mains cables (AC).
  4. Connect the RS485 interface to the inverter.
  5. Close connection covers.
  6. Switch on the power supply and check that the device is working properly

Configuration

The energy meter is pre-configured in the factory for use with a KOSTAL inverter. No further settings are needed or possible. For details of the combinations in which the energy meter can be used, consult the document “Released energy meters” which is available in the download area for the inverter.
