FireAngel ZB-MODULE P-LINE Zigbee Module
INTRODUCTION
The original English version of the manual, from which these translations were
taken, has been independently approved. In case of discrepancy with translated
parts, FireAngel Safety Technology Limited confirms that the English guide is
true and correct.
This wireless module is designed to be installed in a Zigbee compatible smoke,
heat or carbon monoxide (CO) alarm which offers an additional option for
wireless connectivity. For the current range of Zigbee compatible products
visit www.fireangeltech.com
When the wireless module is fitted into a Zigbee compatible FireAngel smoke,
heat or CO alarm, it enables the unit to be wirelessly connected to a third
party Zigbee Controller.
When any of the connected products are triggered by smoke, heat or CO, the
unit will transmit messages to the main Controller.
NOTE: You will need the User Manual of the product into which you are
installing the wireless module in order to understand alarm operation. Zigbee
module characteristics are different to those stated in FireAngel Wi-Safe 2
literature, please contact Technical Support on 0800 141 2561 or email
technicalsupport@fireangeltech.com for more information.
This product can be included and operated in any Zigbee network with other
Zigbee certified devices from other manufacturers. All non-battery operated
Zigbee modules within the network will act as repeaters regardless of vendor
to increase the range and reliability of the network.
HOW TO INSTALL A ZIGBEE WIRELESS MODULE
(ZB-MODULE) Please read these fitting instructions carefully before proceeding, paying particular attention to the ESD handling guidelines below.
- Remove the label which covers the module aperture on the host unit.
- Avoid carpeted areas in cool, dry areas if possible, and reduce static electricity if necessary by touching a grounded metal object.
- Carefully remove the module from its packaging, handling the module only by the protective plastic cover, to avoid electrostatic discharge.
- Be careful not to touch the components or connector pins.
- Remove the plastic battery insulation tab by pulling it out.
- Carefully plug the module into the aperture in the unit, pushing down until it lies flat within the base of the unit.
The unit is now ready to be added (included) to the Zigbee Controller.
‘ADDING’ YOUR ZIGBEE UNITS
Do not attempt to add your Zigbee Module unless you are familiar with the
operation of your Zigbee Controller.
- Read the instructions for your Zigbee Controller regarding adding new devices. Then initiate the inclusion function from your Zigbee Controller.
- Press the add button once the Zigbee Module is on the device. The LED will show a quick blink once per second while the module is being added. This process may take as long as 30 seconds, but typically is much quicker.
- Upon successful inclusion, the Zigbee Module LED will light up for 3 seconds then turn off. Once connected the LED will blink once every 3 seconds for the first two hours to show successful learning in, but disable after that to conserve battery life.
- If inclusion does not succeed, restart at step 1.
- If successful, place the alarm on its base and wait at least 30 seconds.
- Press the test button on the alarm. If the Zigbee Controller provides CIE functionality – verify that it receives Notification Reports
- After the Zigbee Module is included, you may define association groups or perform other configuration operations from the Zigbee Controller.
NOTE: The effective range of the wireless module may be reduced by walls
and other obstructions in the building. The range is typically expected to be
in the region of 10m between the alarm and the controller, but will be
influenced by the factors mentioned above. In case the controller is out of
range, the use of any mains powered Zigbee device within range of the alarm
will operate as a repeater and will help to extend the range.
For information about where to position the alarm, and operational guidelines,
please see the device user manual.
‘REMOVING’ YOUR ZIGBEE UNITS
- Read the instructions on your Zigbee Controller regarding removing devices. Note: Only the Zigbee coordinator who added the device to the Zigbee network is capable of removing that device from the network.
- Reset module to Factory state. Press and hold the button for at least 5 seconds.
- Upon successful removal, the Zigbee Module LED will blink 10 consecutive times.
- If the removal operation does not succeed, restart at step 1.
- After removing, either a) add the Zigbee Module into a different Zigbee Controller, or b) remove the battery from the Zigbee Module.
Once the Zigbee module is removed from a device, it needs to be reset before it can be used in another device.
- Press button on the Zigbee Module, hold it for 5 seconds and then release it. 10 consecutive LED blinks will indicate successful resetting.
- The module can then be placed in a new device and learned-into a network again. Resetting the module will erase the network as well as the device details from the module.
Please use this procedure only when the network primary controller is missing or otherwise inoperable.
BATTERY
The ZB-Module contains 1 x CR2 lithium battery. The module will send a low
battery Notification Report to the Zigbee controller when it is time for a
replacement. The ZB-Module is compatible with any Zigbee Controller, however
the battery life may be shortened due to default settings on some controllers.

www.fireangeltech.com
REPLACING THE BATTERY
- Remove the module from the alarm.
- Without touching any metal pins on the module, carefully remove the battery. Dispose of the battery appropriately.
- Without touching any metal pins on the module, insert a new CR2 battery, checking for correct orientation.
- Re-insert the module into your alarm.
- Place the alarm on its base and wait at least 30 seconds.
- Press the test button on the alarm, If the Zigbee Controller provides CIE functionality – verify that it receives Notification Reports
NOTE: The alarm device is not dependent in any way on the removable battery inside the module. Not replacing the battery inside the module will only prevent the alarm communicating to the Zigbee Controller.
LIMITATIONS OF THE ZIGBEE SYSTEM
- Alarms use Zigbee cluster commands to interact with each other in the Zigbee network.
- The Zigbee protocol is not a life safety protocol and should not be relied upon for life safety.
- If your internet connection is lost, communication from your 3rd party controller (i.e. to cloud or mobile devices) may not be possible. Your alarm will still continue to operate as a standalone alarm and does not rely on an internet connection to do so.
