To run this device please connect it to your mains power supply.
To add this device to your network execute the following action:
ADDING YOUR Z-WAVE UNITSDo not attempt to add your Z-Wave Module unless you
are familiar with the operation of your Z-Wave Controller.1.Read the
instructions for your Z-Wave Controller regarding adding new devices. Then
initiate the inclusion function from your Z-Wave Controller.2.Triple-press the
add button once the Z-Wave Module is on the device. The LED will show a quick
blink once per second while the module is being added. This process may take
as long as 30 seconds, but typically is much quicker. If you triple-press too
quickly or too slowly, inclusion will not start. In this case wait a few
seconds and then try again.3.Upon successful inclusion, the Z-Wave Module LED
will flash 3 times. If inclusion fails, the LED will simply stop its blink
pattern.4.If inclusion does not succeed, restart at step 1.5.If successful,
place the alarm on its base and wait at least 30 seconds.6.Press the alarms
test button and verify the Z-Wave Controller receives Notification
Reports.7.After the Z-Wave Module is included, you may define association
groups or perform other configuration operations from the Z-Wave Controller.

What is Z-Wave?
Z-Wave is the international wireless protocol for communication in the Smart
Home. This
device is suited for use in the region mentioned in the Quickstart section.
Z-Wave ensures a reliable communication by reconfirming every message ( two-
way
communication) and every mains powered node can act as a repeater for other
nodes
( meshed network ) in case the receiver is not in direct wireless range of
the
transmitter.
This device and every other certified Z-Wave device can be used together
with any other
certified Z-Wave device regardless of brand and origin as long as both are
suited for the
same frequency range.
If a device supports secure communication it will communicate with other
devices
secure as long as this device provides the same or a higher level of security.
Otherwise it will automatically turn into a lower level of security to
maintain
backward compatibility.

Product Description
This wireless module is designed to be installed in a Z-Wave compatible smoke alarm which offers an additional option for wireless connectivity, with extended features and capabilities that enhance the end user experience. Thermoptek technology combines the very latest in optical sensing with a thermal enhancement. It constantly monitors for temperature change and if a sudden rate of temperature rise is detected the sensitivity of the alarm is increased.FireAngel smoke detection technology is used and trusted by the UK Fire and Rescue services. The alarm sensor has a 10 year sealed for life Panasonic battery inside that will power the alarm for life. The Z-Wave module has a 2 year removable CR2 battery. When the wireless module is fitted into a Z-Wave compatible smoke or heat alarm it enables the unit to be wirelessly interlinked to a third party Z-Wave Controller. When any of the interlinked products are triggered by smoke or heat, the unit will transmit messages to the main Controller.
Prepare for Installation / Reset
Please read the user manual before installing the product.
In order to include (add) a Z-Wave device to a network it must be in factory
default
state. Please make sure to reset the device into factory default. You can do
this by
performing an Exclusion operation as described below in the manual. Every
Z-Wave
controller is able to perform this operation however it is recommended to use
the primary
controller of the previous network to make sure the very device is excluded
properly
from this network.
Reset to factory default
This device also allows to be reset without any involvement of a Z-Wave
controller. This
procedure should only be used when the primary controller is inoperable.
FACTORY RESET YOUR Z-WAVE UNITS This operation should only be performed if the module is to be excluded from the network and if the Z-Wave Controller is also being reset or removed. 1.Press and hold the button for 10 seconds. The LED will go off. Now release the button. The LED will flash once as the module resets. 2.After resetting, either a) include the module into a different Z-Wave Controller, or b) remove the battery from the module to avoid power draining. * use the reset procedure only when the primary controller is missing or inoperable.
Safety Warning for Mains Powered Devices
ATTENTION: only authorized technicians under consideration of the country-
specific
installation guidelines/norms may do works with mains power. Prior to the
assembly of
the product, the voltage network has to be switched off and ensured against
re-switching.
Inclusion/Exclusion
On factory default the device does not belong to any Z-Wave network. The
device needs
to be added to an existing wireless network to communicate with the
devices of this network.
This process is called Inclusion.
Devices can also be removed from a network. This process is called
Exclusion.
Both processes are initiated by the primary controller of the Z-Wave network.
This
controller is turned into exclusion respective inclusion mode. Inclusion and
Exclusion is
then performed doing a special manual action right on the device.
Inclusion
ADDING YOUR Z-WAVE UNITSDo not attempt to add your Z-Wave Module unless you are familiar with the operation of your Z-Wave Controller.1.Read the instructions for your Z-Wave Controller regarding adding new devices. Then initiate the inclusion function from your Z-Wave Controller.2.Triple-press the add button once the Z-Wave Module is on the device. The LED will show a quick blink once per second while the module is being added. This process may take as long as 30 seconds, but typically is much quicker. If you triple-press too quickly or too slowly, inclusion will not start. In this case wait a few seconds and then try again.3.Upon successful inclusion, the Z-Wave Module LED will flash 3 times. If inclusion fails, the LED will simply stop its blink pattern.4.If inclusion does not succeed, restart at step 1.5.If successful, place the alarm on its base and wait at least 30 seconds.6.Press the alarms test button and verify the Z-Wave Controller receives Notification Reports.7.After the Z-Wave Module is included, you may define association groups or perform other configuration operations from the Z-Wave Controller.
Exclusion
REMOVING YOUR Z-WAVE UNITS1.Read the instructions on your Z-Wave Controller regarding removing devices. Note that a device can be removed using any Z-Wave Controller, not just the Controller that was used to add the Module. Initiate the removal process at your Controller.2.Triple-press the button on the Z-Wave Module. The LED will show a quick double-blink once per second while the module is being removed. This process may take up to 30 seconds. If you triple-press too quickly or too slowly the removing function will not start. In this case you must wait a few seconds and then try again.3.Upon successful removal, the Z-Wave Module LED will flash 5 times. If removal fails, the LED will simply stop its blink pattern.4.If the removal operation does not succeed, restart at step 1.5.After removing, either a) add the Z-Wave Module into a different Z-Wave Controller, or b) remove the battery from the Z-Wave Module.NOTE: The effective range of the wireless module may be reduced by walls and other obstructions in the building. It is recommended not to exceed 40m as the maximum distance between smoke alarms and the Controller.
Communication to a Sleeping device (Wakeup)
This device is battery operated and turned into deep sleep state most of the
time
to save battery life time. Communication with the device is limited. In order
to
communicate with the device, a static controller C is needed in the
network.
This controller will maintain a mailbox for the battery operated devices and
store
commands that can not be received during deep sleep state. Without such a
controller,
communication may become impossible and/or the battery life time is
significantly
decreased.
This device will wakeup regularly and announce the wakeup
state by sending out a so called Wakeup Notification. The controller can then
empty the mailbox. Therefore, the device needs to be configured with the
desired
wakeup interval and the node ID of the controller. If the device was included
by
a static controller this controller will usually perform all necessary
configurations. The wakeup interval is a tradeoff between maximal battery
life time and the desired responses of the device. To wakeup the device please
perform
the following action:
Waking the ModuleIf the module has been successfully included, when pressing the button, the LED will flash three times. In addition, the module will communicate with the Z-Wave Controller, accepting any pending commands.
Quick trouble shooting
Here are a few hints for network installation if things dont work as expected.
- Make sure a device is in factory reset state before including. In doubt exclude before include.
- If inclusion still fails, check if both devices use the same frequency.
- Remove all dead devices from associations. Otherwise you will see severe delays.
- Never use sleeping battery devices without a central controller.
- Dont poll FLIRS devices.
- Make sure to have enough mains powered device to benefit from the meshing
Association – one device controls an other device
Z-Wave devices control other Z-Wave devices. The relationship between one
device
controlling another device is called association. In order to control a
different
device, the controlling device needs to maintain a list of devices that will
receive
controlling commands. These lists are called association groups and they are
always
related to certain events (e.g. button pressed, sensor triggers, …). In case
the event happens all devices stored in the respective association group will
receive the same wireless command wireless command, typically a ‘Basic Set’
Command.
