Product Information
The Alien Orb Surface Mount is a lighting fixture manufactured by In Common With. It is designed to provide ambient lighting and can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. The fixture comes with various components, including a canopy backplate, thumb screws, a G9 lightbulb, an Orb 4s diffuser, and a hardware pack. The fixture is available in both plug-in and hardwired versions.
Product Usage Instructions
Hardwired Installation:
- Before beginning installation, ensure the electrical power is turned off at the main fuse box or circuit panel.
- Mount the canopy backplate to the junction box using a phillips head screwdriver to tighten the mounting screws.
- Use the provided Wago clips to connect the fixture’s wires to the corresponding wires from the junction box. Make sure to match the colors: white for neutral, black for live, and green/yellow for ground. Use a wire stripper to remove 3/8 insulation from each wire before inserting them into the Wago clips if needed.
- Align the holes of the backplate with the holes of the canopy cover and secure them in place by twisting the thumb screws by hand.
- Push the included lightbulbs into the fixture sockets.
- Align the threads of the Orb 4 Diffuser with the threaded socket and secure it by turning the thread of the diffuser into themetal hardware by rotating clockwise until fixed in place.
- Turn on the power at the main fuse box or circuit panel to activate the light.
Plug-in Installation:
- Mount the backplate to the wall using appropriate anchors for your wall material. If needed, consult a qualified professional for assistance.
- Align the holes of the backplate with the holes of the canopy cover and secure them in place by twisting the thumb screws byhand.
- Push the lightbulb into the socket.
- Align the threads of the Orb 4 Diffuser with the threaded socket and secure it by turning the thread of the diffuser into the metal hardware by rotating clockwise until fixed in place.
- Plug in the cord and turn on the light.

Alien Orb Surface Mount Components
- Before beginning installation, turn off electrical power at the main fuse box or circuit panel
- Mount the canopy backplate to the junction box using a phillips head screwdriver to tighten the mounting screws.

Alien Orb Surface Mount, Slim Components
- Before beginning installation, turn off electrical power at the main fuse box or circuit panel.
- Mount the backplate to the junction box using a phillips head screwdriver to tighten the mounting screws
- Use the wago clips to connect the fixture’s wires to the corresponding wires from the junction box in the wall or ceiling. White is neutral; Black is live; Green/ Yellow is ground. One ground wire will be from the fixture backplate, and the other ground wire should come from the junction box. If needed, use a wire stripper to remove 3/8” insulation from each wire before inserting them into the corresponding wago clip.
- Align the holes of the backplate with the holes of the canopy cover. Secure them in place by tightening the canopy screws using the included L-shaped hex key.
- Push the included lightbulbs into the fixture sockets.
- Align the threads of the Orb 4 Diffuser with the threaded socket and secure it by turning the thread of the diffuser into the metal hardware by rotating clockwise until fixed in place.
- Turn the power back on at the main fuse box or circuit panel you disabled before installation. Turn on the light 🙂
Care Instructions
Never use scouring pads or abrasive cleaning solutions. If it comes in a bottle, it is bad for your fixture. Instead, we recommend using soft microfiber cloths, which are gentler on our products and the planet.
- For Metal: Wipe with a damp or dry microfiber cloth. Please note that our brass is unlaquered, and will darken naturally over time.
- For Glass: Wipe clear or colored glass with a damp microfiber cloth. For sandblasted or etched glass, use a dry microfiber cloth. Removable glass shades can be washed carefully in a sink using warm or hot water
- For Ceramic: Wipe with a damp microfiber cloth. Do not submerge in water.
