SETTING THE COOKING TIME
TEMPERATURE AND TIME:
High: default 4 hours (adjustable), temperature 95–99 °C
Low: default 6 hours (adjustable), temperature 90–95 °C
- Before cooking, plug the cooker into the mains and wait for the beep to indicate that it is ready to cook.
- After pressing the power button, the screen will display the default time of 04:00 (4 hours).
- The „High“ and „Cooking“ LEDs will flash. If you do not need to change this setting, just press the control knob to start the program. The „High“ and „Cooking“ LEDs will stay lit.
- Turn the knob to adjust the time: to the left to decrease the time and right to increase the time, between 00:30 and 16:00.
- You can also use the „High/Low/Warm“ functions to adjust the time. The „High“ function sets the cooking time to 4 hours by default. The default time for the „Low/Warm“ function is 6 hours.
- The „Warm“ function keeps the food warm without overcooking it.
- Press the control knob to confirm.
- If you make a mistake or want to change the time again, hold down the control knob for 3 seconds and start again.
- When the „High/Low“ programs are finished, the slow cooker automatically switches to „Warm“ mode and will keep the food warm for 6 hours.
SETTING DELAYED START
When using the delayed start function, take into account that food naturally degrades over time when not refrigerated and adjust the delayed start time accordingly.
- Press the „Power“ button and then the „Menu“ button.
- When the LED flashes, the time „1:00“ is displayed. Turn the knob to adjust the delayed start time: to the left to decrease the time and to the right to increase the time, between 00:30 and 16:00.
- After setting the delayed start, press the „Menu“ button again and continue by selecting the cooking time and temperature.
- Press the control knob to start the program. The „Delay“ LED will start flashing and the set time will be displayed. Once this time has elapsed, the set cooking program will automatically begin.
RESETTING THE TIME AND PROGRAM
To change the delayed start time, hold down the control knob for 3 seconds.
The time on the screen starts flashing. Rotate the knob to change the time and
then press to confirm.
FOOD SUITABLE FOR SLOW COOKING
Most dishes are suitable for slow cooking, but there are a few rules to follow.
- Cut root vegetables into small, straight pieces, as they take longer to cook than meat. Before slow cooking, lightly sauté them in a pan for 2–3 minutes.
- Make sure root vegetables are always placed at the bottom of the pot and all the ingredients are immersed in the liquid.
- Remove any excess fat from the meat before cooking, as slow cooking does not allow the fat to evaporate.
- If you are adapting a traditional recipe, you may need to reduce the amount of liquid used. Liquid will not evaporate from the slow cooker as much as it does in conventional cooking.
- Do not use a slow cooker to reheat food.
- Uncooked red beans should be soaked and cooked at 100 degrees for at least 10 minutes before using in a slow cooker so as to remove toxins.
- Use a meat thermometer in roasts, hams or whole chickens to ensure they are cooked to the desired temperature.
- Cooking at low temperatures does not produce steam, so there is little heat loss. Due to normal wear and tear over the life of the product, the outer surface may begin to appear cracked.
- When cooking soups, fill up to a maximum of 5 cm below the rim of the pot to allow it room to boil.
TIPS FOR SLOW COOKING AND PREPARATION
- For best results, the slow cooker must be at least half full.
- Slow cooking retains moisture. To reduce the liquid in the pot, remove the lid after cooking, turn the knob to high (if set to low) and cook for a further 30–45 minutes.
- To prevent accumulated heat from escaping, do not remove the glass lid unnecessarily. For best results, add 10–20 minutes to the total cooking time each time the lid is removed.
- Many recipes require slow cooking for the whole day. If you do not have time to prepare food in the morning, prepare it the evening before and store the food in the refrigerator. Transfer the food to the pot and add the liquid/sauce.
- Most meat and vegetable recipes require cooking 8–10 hours at low temperature or 4–6 hours at high temperature. Some ingredients are not suitable for slow cooking. Pasta, seafood, milk and cream should be added at the end of the cooking period. Many factors can affect how quickly food cooks: the amount of food, its water and fat content, and its initial temperature.
- As vegetables usually take longer to cook than meat, put the vegetables in the bottom of the pot and the meat on top.
- Food cut into small pieces cooks faster than larger pieces. After using the slow cooker a few times, you will be able to more accurately set it to achieve desired results.
- After cooking, turn off the cooker and leave it covered with the glass lid.
- Pre-cooking the meat with onions in a pan will also reduce the fat content before adding it to the pot. This is not necessary if time is limited, but improves the flavor.
- When cooking larger pieces of meat, ham, poultry, etc., the size and shape of the pieces is important. Try to keep the larger pieces in the bottom two thirds of the pot and completely immersed in liquid.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
WARNING!
Before washing or storing, make sure that the slow cooker is unplugged and all
its parts have cooled down.
- The ceramic pot can be washed in the dishwasher or cleaned with warm soapy water. To remove dried or baked-on food from the inside of the pot, simply soak it in soapy water overnight and rinse the next day.
- The outside of the slow cooker can be wiped with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners or scouring pads to clean any part of the appliance, as this could damage the surface.
- Any other servicing should be performed by an authorised service representative.
