Introduction

Control lights from any location with a hub that is Zigbee compliant. YOUR DIMMER WORKS WITH:

Your Decora Smart dimmer with Zigbee technology is compatible with dimmable LED, dimmable CFL, and incandescent bulbs. Your dimmer should not be used with electronic low voltage, motor loads or aluminum wire. To ensure proper communication do not use metal wallplates. For LED compatibility recommendations, go to leviton.com/LED.

NOTE: When two or more dimmers are installed next to each other the incandescent load rating becomes 500W for each dimmer. No reduction is necessary if the load is LED or CFL.

BEFORE YOU INSTALL

THINGS TO CONSIDER:

  • If light(s) are controlled from more than one location, you will need a DD00R remote. See the DD00R installation instructions for wiring instructions.
    • Zigbee is a mesh network. It must be installed within 30 ft of hub or another Zigbee 3.0 compliant device.Leviton-DG6HD-1BW-Decora-Smart-Dimmer-user-manual-img-3

NOTE: Communication through exterior surfaces will likely reduce transmission distances.

MINIMUM DIM LEVEL

The default dimmer settings work well with most lighting fixtures. If you are not experiencing full rage dimming, please adjust the minimum dim level.

  1. Enter programming mode by holding the top of the paddle for 7 seconds.
    • Status light will turn amber.

  5. Hold the top of the paddle to exit.

ADD YOUR DIMMER TO A HUB

To control your dimmer with your phone, add it to a compatible Zigbee hub. Use the hub’s app and follow the instructions for adding a dimmer. When you power up your dimmer it immediately enters inclusion mode (some hubs may use the term connect, join or pair).

When joining multiple devices, the air gap can be used to ensure only one active device is enrolled.

If the hub uses older inclusion processes contact technical services for specific product instructions.

FACTORY DEFAULT

  1. To reset dimmer to factory settings and place into joining mode:
  2. Hold the top of the paddle for a total of 14 seconds.
  3. After the first 7 seconds the light turns amber. Continue to hold.
  4. After a total of 14 seconds, the status light will quickly flash red/amber.
  5. Release the top of the paddle and the dimmer will reset.

MANUALLY START/STOP JOINING

When you first power on your dimmer or perform a factory reset the green status light will automatically flash. This indicates the dimmer is in joining mode. It will remain in this state for 30 minutes or until the dimmer is added to a network. To manually start or stop joining mode, perform the following steps:

  1. Hold the top of the paddle for 7 seconds. Status light will turn amber.
  2. To start joining mode tap the top of the paddle 1 time. The status light will flash green rapidly to indicate it is in joining mode.
  3. To stop joining mode tap the top of the paddle 1 time. The dimmer will leave joining mode.

NOTE: the device can still be operated manually even if not joined to a hub.

SAFETY FIRST

WARNING: To avoid fire, personal injury or death do not use the dimmer for the control of high-power heating appliances such as portable heaters. There can be unexpected consequences if not used with care. For example, an empty coffee pot can be remotely turned on. If that should happen, your coffee pot could be damaged from overheating. If an electric heater is turned on by remote control while clothing is draped over it, a fire could result. This module will not control lighting that is used with electronic low-voltage and high-frequency power supply transformers, nor high-pressure discharge lamps (HID lighting). This includes mercury vapor, sodium vapor and metal halide lamps.

WARNINGS:

  • To reduce the risk of overheating and possible damage to other equipment do not install to control a motor-operated appliance, fluorescent lighting fixture, or a transformer-supplied appliance.
  • This product is to be installed and/or used in accordance with electrical codes and regulations.
  • Indoor use only.
  • If you are unsure about any part of these instructions, consult an electrician.
  • Turn off the power at the circuit breaker when servicing.
  • Save this instruction sheet. It contains important technical data along with testing and troubleshooting information which will be useful after installation is complete.

FAQs

Can this be installed in a 3-way switch configuration (dimmer + switch)?

Yes, BUT you will need to by the special Leviton Companion Switch Remote. There are two style of the remote – one with an LED indicator light (lit when the load is off) and one without the indicator. You cannot use a standard three-way switch in the 2nd switch location. Here is the Switch Remote link on Amazon – https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AFU1JTK/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1.

Can this switch control a fan?

No, this is a dimmer rated for light fixtures. You can use the ZW4SF (Z-Wave) or D24SF (Wi-Fi) to control the speed of the fan. Or you could use a switch for simple on/off control – DG15S (Zigbee), DZ15S (Z-Wave), or D215S (Wi-Fi).

For the dimmer version, how many 65-watt equivalent (8w actual) led bulbs can this handle? description is 300w for leds. is that actual or equivalent?

This depends on the voltage and amps. This also depends on the wire. 300w- 600w should be ok.

Can this dim rgb led lights and will I be able to change the color from the Alexa app using an echo plus?

It can dim but it cannot assist with changing colors

Can this dimmer by used with low voltage LED recessed lights?

No. They need 120v.

Do these switches remember last dimmer level set when turning on/off manually?

Yes, default should be “return to last level”.

Can this support double or triple clicks on the on/off rockers?

No, it cannot.

Can the switch/dimmer be configured to operate independently from the light relays? (I.e., to operate other lights)?

That would be subject to the hub, this device does not work standalone in this fashion.

Does this require ground?

You should always have a ground wire. It will work without ground but this creates a hazard.

Do these integrate with a control4 ea-5 controller? directly, or do you need an intermediary hub?

The DG6HD has been Zigbee 3.0 certified but not formally tested with Control4.

does this work with 220v?

No, it does not.

Why won’t my Leviton’s Wi-Fi connect?

Ensure that your copy of the My Leviton App is the most recent. Check for a My Leviton app update on the Apple App store or Google Play store to make sure you are using the most recent version of the application. If you can, try using a different smartphone or tablet that has the My Leviton software installed.

Is a neutral necessary for a Leviton dimmer?

I have good news for homeowners who wish to upgrade to smart switches but live in older homes. Two smart switches without a neutral wire were unveiled this week by the lighting control manufacturer Leviton.

What colors are the cables for the dimmer switch?

Usually, the cables from the dimmer are black. The two-house wires could be white with black markings, red, or black. Over each pair of wire ends, tighten a wire nut.

My Leviton Decora smart switch has to be reset.

The attachment can also be put in ready mode using this process, with the locator LED glowing green: Holding the paddle’s top for 7 seconds will cause the Locator LED to start blinking amber. The switch will reset whenever the top of the paddle is released.
