Getting Started

WARNING: See the Important Safety and Product Information guide in the product box for product warnings and other important information.

  1. Install 12 AA lithium or AA NiMH batteries in the device (page 2).
  2. Install an SD memory card (page 3).
  3. Turn on the device and complete the initial setup steps (page 3).
  4. Mount the device in a suitable location (page 3).
  5. Arm the camera (page 5).

Installing AA Batteries

NOTICE: Do not use alkaline batteries in this device.

Do not mix battery types and do not mix old and new batteries. Failure to follow this notice could result in reduced battery life, damage to the device, or poor product performance. The device operates on 12 AA lithium or 12 AA NiMH batteries.

  1. Open the device door latch.
  2. Insert 12 AA lithium or 12 AA NiMH batteries into the device, observing polarity.

Installing a Memory Card

You must install an SD or SDHC memory card to use your device. The camera supports memory cards up to 256 GB. For optimal performance, use a class 10 or better memory card.

  1. Release the door latch, and open the front cover.
  2. Insert an SD memory card into the SD card port .
  3. Press in the memory card until it clicks.

Turning the Device On or Off

  1. To turn on the device, press and hold PWR.
  2. To turn off the device, hold PWR for 3

Setup Overview

The first time you turn on your device, it walks you through initial setup, pairing a smartphone, and setting up satellite communications.
NOTE: Satellite communication features are not available on all camera models.

Xero® G App
The Xero G app allows you to transfer photos from your camera, view scouting reports, and configure camera settings. You can download the Xero G app from the app store on your smartphone.
NOTE: Some app features are not available for all camera models.

Camera Placement Considerations
For best results, you should follow these camera placement considerations.

  • You should select a location where the camera lens and PIR sensor have a clear view of the observation area and are not obstructed by leaves, brush, or other environmental factors.
  • You should select a location where observation targets are likely to pass across the sensor’s field of view and within 18 m (20 yd.) of the camera.
  • If you are observing a trail, you should position the camera at a 45 degree angle to the trail.
  • You should position the camera so the camera lens and PIR sensor face away from the rising or setting sun.
  • You should test the mounting location before you permanently mount the camera.

Mounting the Device
You can mount the device to a tree using the included strap.

  1. Select a suitable location to mount your device.
  2. Route the mounting strap through the large slot in the back plate.
  3. Insert the strap though the front of the clamp and pull it tight.

Securing the Device with Lag Bolts
You can use the included lag bolts to secure the device to a tree or solid surface.

  1.  Strap the device to a tree and position it for the best view.

  2. Press the release button , and slide the camera off of the back plate.

  3. Using a 3/8 in. wrench or socket, secure the back plate to the tree using the included lag bolts .
    NOTE: Do not overtighten the lag bolts.

  4. Remove the strap.

Locking the Device
You can secure the device using a padlock or a cable lock. This can help prevent someone from accessing the device or its controls. Insert a padlock or cable lock through the latch, the device housing, and the back plate.

Arming the Camera

  1. Select SET UP & ARM.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your camera configuration.

Xero AI Models
When you arm your camera, you can select an AI model for the type of animal you are looking for. The Xero G1 camera analyzes photos and identifies the photos that contain the specified animal. When you connect your camera to the Xero G app, you can view detailed reports about the identified animals.

NOTE: Lighting, distance, and other environmental factors may affect how the camera identifies animals. If the camera is unable to identify an animal, the photo or video is listed as unknown.

Viewing Photos and Videos
You can view your photos and recorded videos on the device screen. You can also download photos and videos to your connected smartphone using the Xero G app.

  1. From the main menu, select GALLERY.
  2. Select an option:
    • To view a list of photos taken during the day, select DAY.
    • To view a list of photos taken at night, select NIGHT.
  3. Select a photo or video.

  1. From the settings menu, select
    DEVICE.

  2. Select ABOUT.

  3. Select REGULATORY INFO.
