Instructions for Use

Insert eartips in a forward direction

Adjust the Headset Tension

  • To reduce the spring tension, pull the eartubes apart.
  • To increase the spring tension, squeeze the eartubes together.

Select the Active Side of the Chestpiece

  • Only one side of the chestpiece is acoustically active at a time, identified by a mark on the stem.
  • Rotate the chestpiece to change which side is active.

Listen to Low and High Frequency Sounds with Littmann Tunable Diaphragms on Each Side of the Chestpiece

Use the large side for adults and the small side for pediatric or thin patients, around bandages and carotid assessment.

  • Low frequencies: apply light pressure to the chestpiece
  • High frequencies: apply firm pressure to the chestpiece

Convert to a Traditional Open Bell

Pinch the rim of the diaphragm on the small side; pull and lift from the chestpiece.

  • Attach the sleeve by placing one side on the edge and stretching it over the chestpiece.
  • To install diaphragm, remove the nonchill sleeve. Insert the edge of the diaphragm into the groove and roll the rim around the chestpiece.

Cleaning, Disinfection and Storage

Clean your stethoscope between exams using a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe or a disposable wipe with soap and water. A 2% bleach solution may be used to disinfect your stethoscope; however, the tubing may experience a slight discoloration after exposure to bleach. The tunable diaphragms, nonchill bell sleeve and eartips may be removed for thorough cleaning
To remove the eartips from the headset, pull firmly. To assemble the eartips, push the small side of the eartip firmly onto the eartube until it snaps fully into place. Ensure all parts and surfaces are dry before reassembly.   1. Do not immerse your stethoscope in any liquid.
  2. Do not subject your stethoscope to any sterilization process.
  3. Avoid storing your stethoscope in extreme heat.
  4. To prevent staining of stethoscope tubing, avoid contact with pens, markers, newsprint, or other printed materials

The Littmann Cardiology IV stethoscope is warranted against any defects in material and workmanship for a period of seven (7) years.
