OPERATION
Counterweight
Set the counterweight scale to the 0 posi-tion. Lower the tonearm lift -10-
to the “DOWN” position. Move the tonearm -8- until it almost reaches the
turntable -1-. Adjust the counterweight -12- by turning it clockwise so that
the tonearm does not tilt up or down, i.e. it should be balanced parallel to
the record. Then return the tonearm to its rest -9-.
Continue turning the counterweight -12- clockwise until the scale indicates
the value equivalent to the recommended stylus force of the cartridge system.
For the cartridge system used here, a contact force of 2 grams is recommended.
Anti-skating wheel
Adjust the anti-skating wheel -11- so that the value of the stylus force is
the same as the stylus force of the cartridge system.
Power on
After carrying out all connections turn on the device via the ON/OFF switch
-17-. To switch on the turntable and the turntable illuminati-on, turn the
ON/OFF switch on the turntable illumination -3- .
Playback

via the 33/45 switch -5-. The LED of the corresponding switch will light up.
Press the START/STOP button -4-. Remove the needle protection from the
cartridge. Now bring the tonearm lift -10- to the “UP” position and move the
tonearm -8- above the point you wish to play. Then put the tonearm lift into
the “DOWN” position so that the tonearm -8- lo-wers itself onto the record’s
groove.
NOTE! You can leave the tonearm lift in the “DOWN” position at all times and lower the tonearm manually onto the desired position. When doing so, be sure not to damage the stylus of the cartrid-ge system.
Fine speed control
You can change the speed of the record ste-plessly using the pitch fader -7-.
If you want to play the record at its original speed, move the pitch fader -7-
to the “+/- 0%” position.
Audio output via USB
The VNL-500 USB features an integrated au-dio interface that allows you to
digitise your records easily as well as in high quality. For this purpose we
recommend recording-capable audio software such as Audacity (freeware).
Audacity download link:

Connect the supplied USB cable to both the USB port -15- of the VNL-500 USB
and to a computer. Then open your audio software, e.g. Audacity, and select
the VNL-500 USB as a device under the option “Recording” (Audio Input) in the
default settings of your audio software. The VNL-500 USB will be di-splayed as
“USB Audio Codec”.
Press “Record” and play the desired record. The audio output of the VNL-500
USB is now recorded. For advanced functions of your audio software, please
refer to the respective operating instructions
Dust cover
Put the dust cover on the hinges and then place them in the mounting
brackets pro-vided -18-. The dust cover protects your turntable when it is not
in use. However, we recommend that you remove the dust cover when the
turntable is in use, as otherwise it will have a negative impact on the
acoustic performance. In addition, your turntable should be positioned on a
low-resonance surface such as wood or multiple layer ply board.
