IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. NOTE THE SAFE OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, WARNINGS & CAUTIONS. USE THE PRODUCT CORRECTLY AND WITH CARE FOR THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH IT IS INTENDED. SAFETY

ELECTRICAL SAFETY

• WARNING! It is the user’s responsibility to check the following:
  Check all electrical equipment and appliances to ensure that they are safe before using. Inspect power supply leads, plugs and all electrical connections for wear and damage. Sealey recommend that an RCD (Residual Current Device) is used with all electrical products. You may obtain an RCD by contacting your local Sealey stockist. If the product is used in the course of business duties, it must be maintained in a safe condition and routinely PAT (Portable Appliance Test) tested. Electrical safety information, it is important that the following information is read and understood.

• Ensure that the insulation on all cables and on the appliance is safe before connecting it to the power supply.

• Regularly inspect power supply cables and plugs for wear or damage and check all connections to ensure that they are secure.

• Important: Ensure that the voltage rating on the appliance suits the power supply to be used and that the plug is fitted with the correct fuse – see fuse rating in these instructions.

• DO NOT pull or carry the appliance by the power cable.

• DO NOT pull the plug from the socket by the cable. Remove the plug from the socket by maintaining a firm grip on the plug.

• DO NOT use worn or damaged cables, plugs or connectors. Ensure that any faulty item is repaired or replaced immediately by a qualified electrician.

• This product is fitted with a BS1363/A 13 Amp 3 pin plug. If the cable or plug is damaged during use, switch the electricity supply and remove from use. Replace a damaged plug with a BS1363/A 13 Amp 3 pin plug. If in doubt contact a qualified electrician. Class II products are wired with live (brown) and neutral (blue) only are marked with the Class II symbol;

• Connect the BROWN live wire to the live terminal ‘L’.

•  Connect the BLUE neutral wire to the neutral terminal ‘N’.

• After wiring, check that there are no bare wires and ensure that all wires have been correctly connected.

GENERAL SAFETY

• Disconnect the gun from the mains power before changing accessories, servicing or performing other maintenance.
•  Maintain the hot air gun in good condition, use an authorised service agent.
• Use recommended accessories only. Unapproved accessories can be hazardous and will invalidate your warranty.
• Wear appropriate protective clothing and equipment. Work gloves and eye protection are mandatory. Protect long hair and remove loose fitting garments and jewellery. Maintain correct balance and footing and wear non-slip shoes.
• Evaluate your work area before using the hot air gun. i.e. ceiling, floors and enclosures may contain flammable materials.
• Keep the work area clean, uncluttered and well lit. Use the hot air gun only in a well ventilated area.
• Ensure that small or irregular shaped objects are secured in a vice or clamps before you work on them.
•  Stay alert! Always pay attention to the work in hand when operating this hot air gun.
•  Guard against electric shock by not contacting grounded surfaces, i.e. pipes, radiators, etc. when using electric hand tools. Keep the hot air gun handle dry, clean and free
• Keep from oil and grease. Clean any paint or varnish from the nozzle after use.
• Allow the hot air gun to cool before storing (only store when cold). Store the gun in a safe, dry place out of the reach of children.
• DO NOT direct the hot airflow at yourself, others, animals or plants and DO NOT allow children to operate the hot air gun.
• DO NOT use the hot air gun in rain or in a wet environment, or in areas of high humidity and damp (bathrooms, steam rooms, etc.).
• DO NOT obstruct the hot airflow by blocking or covering the air outlet.
•  DO NOT touch the nozzle during, or after, use as it becomes extremely hot.
•  DO NOT leave the hot air gun running unattended. Always turn off the power supply.
• DO NOT use the hot air gun on a task it is not designed for.

LEAD PAINT WARNING

• Paint once contained lead as a traditional ingredient. Paint particles, resulting from the removal of such paint, are toxic and ingestion/ inhalation must, therefore, be avoided. The following action must be taken before using this tool:
• The operator must determine potential hazard relating to age of paint to be removed (modern paints do not have lead content).
• DANGER! Keep all persons and pets away from the work area. The following are particularly vulnerable to the effects of lead paint dust: Expectant women, babies and children. We recommend personal protection by using the following safety items: Paint Spray Respirator (Sealey ref. SSP1699), PE Coated Hooded Coverall (Sealey ref. SSP267), Latex Gloves (Sealey ref. SSP24). Take adequate measures to contain the paint dust, flakes, and scrapings. When task is complete continue to wear safety equipment as in 1.3.3. and thoroughly clean all areas. Ensure paint waste is disposed of in sealed bags or containers.

INTRODUCTION

Fitted with variable electronic temperature control and LCD temperature display. Suitable for paint stripping, soft soldering, removing sticky labels and defrosting frozen pipes. Double insulated and fitted with 3-pin plug. Supplied with four nozzles, stripper, scraper handle, three scraper blades, all in a storage case.

OPERATION

PREPARATION

Select and fit a suitable nozzle for the work area (if required). Connect to the power supply, ensuring the On/Off switch (Fig.1.1) is in the ‘0’ position. Set the switch (Fig.1.1) to the required setting, position ‘1’ (80°C) or position ‘2’ (variable – 80 to 600°C). Rotate the temperature dial to the required temperature setting (Fig.1.2). It is best to start at a lower temperature and gradually increase it if necessary. Allow a short period for the gun to reach the desired temperature, using the LCD display for reference.
NOTE: When new, the hot air gun may generate some smoke, this will decrease with use.
Warning: Keep hands away from the immediate nozzle area. If lead paint is being removed follow the safety instructions.

PAINT AND VARNISH REMOVAL

The easy removal of paint and varnish requires practice. Follow these simple working techniques to achieve the required result. NOTE: the hot air gun is designed to remove both oil and latex based paints and varnishes from surfaces. It will not remove stains or primer coats that have impregnated the surface.

• Always test on a small non-critical area first.
• Select a shaped scraper suitable for the work area, and fix it securely to the scraper handle by tightening the nuts either side of it.
• Hold the gun nozzle 75mm to 100mm from the paint to be removed.
• After a short time the paint will soften and begin to blister.
• DO NOT overheat the paint as this will cause it to burn, making it more difficult to remove. Wear eye protection, especially

• Begin scraping the paint off. Work from top to bottom. Use the scraper with smooth even strokes, heating the surface in front of the scraper by moving the gun :
• If the correct temperature has been applied to the paint, thick, even layers can be removed in a single pass (paint should be removed in strips equal in width to the scraper  blade). Scrape paint as soon as it becomes soft, as it will re-harden very quickly. htly from side to side.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING! Unplug gun from power supply and allow to cool before performing any maintenance.

• Keep the air intake and outlet openings clean and free from dirt and peelings.
• Use only a slightly dampened cloth and mild household cleaning agent to wipe the gun clean.
• DO NOT use turpentine, paint thinner, gasoline or similar substances to clean the gun.
• Check the gun, power lead and nozzles for damage before storage.
• Store the gun in a safe, dry, childproof area.

ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

Recycle unwanted materials instead of disposing of them as waste. All tools, accessories and packaging should be sorted, taken to a recycling centre and disposed of in a manner which is compatible with the environment. When the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, drain any fluids (if applicable) into approved containers and dispose of the product and fluids according to local regulations.

WEEE REGULATIONS

Dispose of this product at the end of its working life in compliance with the EU Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). When the product is no longer required, it must be disposed of in an environmentally protective way. Contact your local solid waste authority for recycling information.
